  1. Somebody thinks the ball is juiced. -- http://nypost.com/2017/06/14/the-shocking-juiced-ball-evidence-behind-all-these-homers/ I'll have to read this a bit more thoroughly when I have the time, but his "proof" seems a bit sketchy.

  3. Edgy MD wrote: I was kind of proud of Harvey. His fastball was for shit but he worked well with his other pitches. Yeah, it was kind of a weird (half) game for Harvey. Down 1-0 after 1 pitch and 2-0 after about five, he hung in there after that but his velocity was down and I think the dugout thought he was walking the tight rope the entire time. So, like last game when he was pitching well, they figured getting him out too early was better than too late.
  4. I had no idea Curtis was sitting on #299 Nice timing, dude.
  5. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Cubs trolling us as a Little Leaguer wearing #6 tosses a 1-2-3 7th Gary says Carl Edwards Jr. is too skinny to wear a double digit uni. Listed at 6' 3" / 170 !! And btw, CEJ, "sleeves" of tattoos look even worse on skinny arms than they do on meaty ones.
  6. Quit begging and swing the bat Willlllllson!!
  7. Considering that we're up against three HRs in this game vs Juan's triple being maybe the only hard-hit ball by the Mets all night, the fact that we're tied after six can be looked at as a good thing.
  8. It just occurred to me that the two right fielders in this game are not only both named Jay but also have a total of four first names out there.
  9. Other legacy picks: Buddy Kennedy - [u:1u07h25h]grandson[/u:1u07h25h] of Don Money - 5th round, DBacks Joe Dunand - nephew of Alex Rodriguez - 2nd round, Marlins Cole Bellinger - brother of Cody, son of Clay - 15th round, Padres Darren Baker - son of Dusty (remember folks?) - 27th round, Nationals Jacob Gonzalez - son of Luis - 2nd round, SF Giants Dalton Guthrie - son of Mark - 6th round Phillies Kacy Clemens, 8th round, Blue Jays also Colby Bortles, brother of Jacksonville QB Blake -- 22nd round, Tigers Zach Jarrett, son of race car driver Dale, 28th round Orioles
  10. 22nd Round pick of Toronto = Gunner (Son of Shane) Halter 37th round pick of Anaheim = Peyton (son of Tom, not Mike) Glavine, and, yes, he's a LHP
  11. Edgy MD wrote: I suppose Schwarber could have hit that harder and longer. In theory. We won't know for sure until it lands.
  12. Now THIS might get Rosario called up ... unless that's merely the cramp of all time.

  14. Ashie62 wrote: Conforto should go to DL and Nimmo promoted. Well if you did that right now you'd be swapping out the guy hitting .300 in the majors for one hitting .220 in the minors, so unless you've got insider info that this back thing is going to last a while ... Ian Happ is the next Cubs phenom. Haps was a high (9th overall) 1st round draft pick and a Top-30-ish prospect acc to those who rate such stuff heading into this season. That's a good prospect, but not necessarily a sure-fire future star. So far he's K'd in more than 40% of his ML ABs including Ks in four straight ABs following his Grand Slam last night.
  15. Hmmm, no Cespedes [u:1l43rv7a]OR[/u:1l43rv7a] Conforto. I know at least some of these Cespedes days off were sort of pre-planned so as to ease him back in, but this 'stiff back' or whatever they're calling it for MC is starting to get not so funny anymore. Montgomery, who was with Seattle until being dealt to the Cubs at the deadline last summer, has never faced the Mets. He started as a 2014 rookie but mostly as a reliever since then including the stint where he was called on to get a little out we like to call the final one of the extra-inning/Game-Seven/World Series. It was the only batter he faced that game but the tying Cleveland runner was on 1st and batter Michael Martinez was the WS winning run at the plate when Montgomery induced the Series-ending 5-3
  16. The Classic Wilmer 'In Action' shot. That nine of the top eleven vote-getters this month play 'Not Pitcher' as their position shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.
  17. He re-injured the thumb on a swing, apparently on Sunday and then again on Monday (after hitting 2 HRs). There's a fine line between sitting out too long and not long enough and where that line is drawn isn't always obvious in real time.
  18. 7th - Conor O'Neill, RHP, Cal Northridge 8th - Trey Cobb, RHP, Oklahoma State 9th - Cannon Chadwick, RHP, U Arkansas Fayetteville 10th - Stephen Villines, RHP, U Kansas All these guys, the ones from Round 6 thru 10, are college Seniors which means low signing bonuses although there doesn't appear to be any 'over-draft' types for whom they'll need this saved cash for. And once you get beyond Round 10 the picks are no longer subject to the combined bonus cap.
  19. And now the Nats just went back in front on Ryan Zimmerman's 2nd HR of the day and his 18th & 19th of the season! The last full season when he hit as many as 19 was 2013. He's also leading the league in BA - .365 before the night started. Joe Ross started for the Nats but didn't last the 6th. He only has two losses and won't lose tonight either now that his team went back in front despite a ERA of over 6.00, mainly because the Nats are averaging 12 Runs per game on the days he starts! 6-5 bottom 6. Dickey just pulled with two on and no outs so this could get uglier still before the inning in out.
  20. So the mad scientist Maddon puts a non-leadoff hitter hitting leadoff, a rookie with a week or so under his belt up 2nd, a guy with 5 HRs in the cleanup spot, two guys hitting around the Mendoza line following him, then a pitcher who can't hit batting 8th ... and yet it somehow all works out for him. It's all just going to make the comeback story tonight that much better. Oh, and this game ain't takin' no 2:23 tonight.
  21. Wonder if he re-injured the thumb on his first HR last night or on his second?
  22. btw, not on the Chicago Cubs but currently toiling for the Iowa (AAA) Cubs is Jack Leathersich: 15 appearances, 16.1 IP, 15 Runs (13 ER) on 15 Hits + 15 Walks and 24 Ks!!! Yup, that's the Jack we got to (briefly) see in a NYM uni.
  23. 3rd round: OF Quinn Brodey of Stanford U. BL "average tools across the board"! 26th best outfielder available! Sickels: Left-handed hitter with some power, some tweener risk but I think there is more upside here than commonly believed.
  24. We're going to need a bigger dugout. Round 4 (#127 overall) -- Tony Dibrell, RHP, Kenesaw State University
  25. Fman99 wrote: Awesome stuff. I will get a good night's sleep tonight, love the 2 1/2 hour game time. At 2:23, this was the shortest NYM game of the year and the 3rd time that one of our games came in at 2:30 or less. Until around the mid-'80s, games under 2-1/2 hours were the majority and as recently as a decade ago the percentage of nine-inning games <2:30 was still in double-digits. Last year though a total 7 NYM games (out of 149 nine-inning games) came in at 2:30 or less and looks like we're on about that same pace this season.
