And we just replaced deGrom with the guy who has the highest HR-rate on the team. Yes, Smoker is even higher than Robles, 2.7 HRs/9 btw, Robles in Las Vegas: 4 games, 4.1 innings, 6 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits, 4 BBs, 6 Ks
9 LOBsters tonight, courtesy of 1/9 w/RiSP Duda's 2-out single in the 1st was the only hit. But that's what happens when you face the other team's ace and their top pen guy .... oh wait.
So so far tonight we've had Neil Walker just miss making a play, Lucas Duda just miss making a play, and Jay Bruce just miss making a play. None were errors, nor should they have been, but it's three plays not made. Meanwhile, I'm not sure that deGrom has retired two batters in a row yet.

Edgy MD wrote: Roy doesn't make this list of 111 baseball Vietnam vets. That sounded high until I realized that the majority were minor leaguers, including those killed in action. I wonder how many of those in that list were actually 'in country' as opposed to just Vietnam-era vets. One name not mentioned is George Hendrick although I remember a story about him calling up Charlie Finley and telling him "I'm in Vietnam, man" - although it's possible that his message was more like 'they're sending me to Vietnam'. Whatever the case, a few phone calls later and Hendrick's tour was finished state-side.
I have this memory lodged in the back of my head somewhere that Roy Staiger had actually served in Vietnam. Ballplayers weren't exempt from the military in those days although very few of those who were drafted wound up serving much time and rarely if ever saw combat. If my memory of Staiger is correct, the timing would indicate that he did his military service prior to being a professional which would explain why he was 'in country' as they used to say.
The thing about Beltre is that he came up at age 19* and has played full seasons almost every year since - only one season with < 500 PA since his first full season at age 20, although this year will be his second since he missed the entire season until last week. Some might call that "compiling" but he had some real good seasons along the way including six Top-10 MVPs and five Gold Gloves. * at one point agent Scott Boras claim to just "discover", two or three years into Beltre's career, that he was actually a year younger than he first thought and therefore was under age when he first signed. He apparently was shocked, SHOCKED to find out that there's gambling going on in Rick's Cafe. What he was trying to do, of course, was get Beltre into FA-gency prior to the usual six full years using the loophole that his original contract was fraudulent. It didn't fly.
