  2. Not only are about 40% of the high-priced seats in that stadium empty, but at least 40% of those who are there aren't watching the game, something that becomes even more obvious when they show replays.
  3. And now they have five HRs in this series and we have maybe five balls out of the infield.
  4. So what are we up to now, like 8 singles (3 never leaving the IF) and 2 solo HRs over the last 15 innings or so?
  5. Y'know, one run deficit, three run deficit ... it pretty much doesn't matter since the Mets don't show any hint of a possibility that they're going to score a run.
  6. How many more shit hits are the Yanx going to get tonight?
  7. If you want to start an IGT winning streak, it's best to do so on a night where deGrom is starting. vs Sonny Gray making his third MFY start Gray is 0-2 so far, losing to Cleveland & Toronto, but got a little unlucky in the first one as three 1st inning errors led to two unearned runs and then his own error in the second game led to another unearned. Plus the Yanquis bats scored a grand total of one run for him so far in the two games.
  8. The idea is that the bad/poor clubs can't just trade/sell their players wholesale to the top teams at the tail end of the season without at least giving the other contenders a crack at them first, hence the worst-goes-first order. If the chasing clubs want to play the gentlemen's game of not claiming anyone then they've got no one to blame if the top dog scoops up all the good talent as they had their chance. The trading deadline used to be June 15 so the waiver period was much longer.
  9. What the (theoretical) team would take on if it claimed and was awarded Stanton - the remainder of the $14.5M for this season, then $25M, $26M, $26M, $29M, $29M, $32M, $32M, $32M, $29M, $25M, and then either $25M club option or a $10M buyout for the [u:32eb6i59]2028[/u:32eb6i59] season - can opt out of contract after 2020 season - he also has full no-trade protection -- so not only can the team kill any claim (by pulling him back) but the player can too.
  10. GIANCARLO STANTON CLEARS WAIVERS I'll take 'Least Surprising News of the Summer' for $600 Alex
  11. MLB-wide pct of solo HRs = 58.9% NYM pct of solo HRs = 68.2% Now you'd expect some kind of gap given our poor (though not bottom of the barrel) OBA, but still ...
  12. Odd fact of the game: For each of the Yanx who HR'd last night [Aaron Hicks, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez] it was their 40th career HR
  13. bmfc1 wrote: This is not a very good time to FUCKING FACT CHECK ME! Give it a rest for once. Robles should never be in the game unless he is on another team. Start the inning with Blevins and (CENSORED!). Hey, I'm asking for suggestions here rather than the standard reaction where every time any reliever gives up anything then Terry is automatically to blame. Fine, let's start with Blevins to face the SW Hicks and RH Judge -- but if that blew up him then we'd cite Blevins' 1100 OPS vs RHBs and declare THAT to be Terry's fault too. Seawald and/or Bradford, the two 27 y/old rookies with < 60 innings of ML time combined both of whom pitched yesterday? I like Goeddell there (1 runs allowed in last 10 outings) better than either Your second best lefty in Smoker? Like I said, I'm open to suggestions here.
  14. bmfc1 wrote: Leave in the garbage righty reliever because a righty is up: HR Put in the solid lefty reliever because a lefty is up: out, but take him out and Put in a mediocre righty reliever because a righty is up: HR. I cannot wait for Teufel or Geren or Lopez or literally anyone else to start managing this team. Hicks led off that inning and was a switch-hitter. Not sure who y'all wanted in there instead of Robles but Judge was up next so if it was going to be Blevins so as to turn Hicks around it likely would have been a one batter outing. Then came the lefty Gregorius, then the righty Sanchez so I'm open to hearing alternate scenarios for that inning. I'd tend to blame the fact that we essentially went hitless after the back-to-back HRs.
  15. Verizon Answer: Beltran Henderson Maddox Strawberry Ventura I mis-read it as 500 ABs rather than 600, that's where Rickey falls short.
  16. Four full minutes between the final pitch of Top 7 and the first pitch of Bottom 7 (double the proscribed time) all due to that whole GBA dog and pony show. If they want to insist on doing that every game AND want it televised then they shouldn't get their two minutes of commercials, and if they are desperate to run the commercials then they can still play GBA for the in-house fans. But there's no reason why they should get to do both.
  17. The graphic listed Smith as 6' 0" / 185 ... Shyeeet, I'm 6' 0" and about 183 and he and I ain't anywhere near the same shape.
  18. That Dom Smith slip was one of those deals where, had it happened to a Yanx 1B at Shea, George would be complaining to the league office about inferior conditions and wanting the game results nullified. And that was in one of his more rational moods. Otherwise he'd be accusing the Mets of intentionally trying to injure his players.
  19. Tonight's Trivia: 5 players with 500+ ABs for both Mets & Yanx? Straw Sheffield Rickey Granderson Ventura? oe (re: Edgy's answer) Beltran's a better answer than Ventura
  20. bmfc1 wrote: I was sure that Yo was going to get the runner at the plate. Hicks is fast but there's no way he should have scored there. I think it was one of those deals where Cespedes assumed the runner wasn't going and figured he could simply gun him out if he did try.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Why did the fans explode into cheers two seconds before Céspedes connected? (And as I hit submit, Darling reports that they were cheering about Granderson's homer being thrown back. That guy gave you 2100 perfectly good plate appearances, you ungrateful jerks.) If you're going to copy the Wrigley thing and throw the HRs back, a few suggestions: a) don't if you insist on doing it, do it at the right time: before the next AB, NOT DURING IT!!
  22. Gardner - turning 34 y/o next week but in the midst of the best power season of his career - 19 HRs!! Hicks - just off the DL, this former 1st round bust (14th overall - 2008) for the Twins has been kind of like 'found money' for the Yanx, particularly with Ellsbury hurt and/or sucking. Good OF, Good arm Judge - now that he's had two lousy stints (2nd half of 2016, since ASB 2017) and one good one (1st half 2017) which is real and which the outlier is still TBD Gregorius - also recently off the DL, having his best season to date Sanchez - dangerous hitter, good arm, lousy catcher. Too bad we're lousy runners Headley - moved to 1st to make room for T. Frazier. Yanx basically can't wait to get rid of him Frazier - low average, good power Torreyes - The hushed-up bastard son of Joe Torre and Jose Reyes. Contact & speed but little power Wade - Wouldn't recognize him if he and I were the only two stuck on an elevator, his name is either Tyler Wade or Wade Tyler, I'm not sure which.
  23. Tonight's game -- and Wednesday's -- will be carried by ESPN if that's of any help.
  24. sharpie wrote: The Forrest Gump/Being There double bill would probably be my least favorite pairing. Yeah, GUMP was, at best, mildly entertaining but was far from the significant work it was sometimes painted as upon its release, due mainly IMO to being high on the baby-boomer navel-gazing factor. And though a lot of folks seemed to like BEING THERE, I wasn't one of them.
  25. d'Kong76 wrote: What's the over/under on Judge HR's over the next four days? 6½? Not as high as his over/under on strikeouts. 46 in 97 ABs since the ASG.
