  1. Disagree with Keith on Zimmerman cutting that ball off. The play was close and the reason the runners moved up was Severino muffing the throw. If he catches that clean they might even have gotten Cespedes out.
  2. That's our strategy tonight, make 'em use up all their mound visits. And have ANY of the Nats agreed with ANY ball/strike calls in ANY of the six games so far this year?
  3. So other than that first inning Mrs. Lincoln ...
  4. Postponed again at Wrigley this afternoon. Sunday + Monday + Tuesday + Wednesday = 1 game played for them. And, by their own admission they shouldn't have played Saturday while on Tuesday they slogged through while it was 35 and windy But no worries, only one more home game for them on Thursday (maybe) then it's off to tropical Denver. Pirates win again this afternoon (10-2 over Rox) to go to 12-6. And this was the team who dealt away Cole & McCutcheon in the off-season.
  5. Braves sign Joey Bats to a minor league contract, apparently with the intention of working him in as a 3b-man. He last played 3rd regularly with the Pirates back in 2007. Hasn't played there at all since 2011.

  7. The reason why the price would be MUCH higher on Realmuto compared to Ramos is that he's 3-1/2 years younger (just turned 27 vs 31 in August), is far more athletic (faster than many non-catchers), doesn't have Ramos's severe/recent injury history (WR missed Sept + playoffs in '16 plus much of '17 with a knee), and, mainly, is under team control thru 2020 vs just the finish of this year for Ramos. You also tend to worry about Ramos's big body going forward - listed at 6' 1" / 245 and carries the nickname of 'Buffalo'. Don't think I want a rehabbing / aging one of those. The Marlins are going to ask for a significant return for Realmuto, as they should.
  8. And the night only got better from there for Betts: 2 more HRs (neither off Ohtani); but worse from there for Ohtani: 66 pitches just to get through 2 IP: 3 Runs, 4 Hits, 2 Walks, and then left game due to "blister" problems (or so they say) First rough night for him on an MLB mound, something which may or may not have to do with the blister or with facing the hot Sox. His other two ML starts both came against Oakland ... and he's still hitting .367/424/.767 -- 11/30 w/5 XBHs
  9. JT R made his season debut for the Marlins Tuesday night: 2-for-4 w/a HR
  10. Of course you could justify voting for 2012 on the basis that it contains the 2012 cover AND the 1968 cover.
  11. Even our defensive catchers don't make good throws to 2nd. Have yet to see a good one out of Lobaton or Nido.
  12. Do these muthafuckas ever hit balls AT people?!? I don't mean to demean their comeback last night or their lead tonight (well, I sorta do) but every soft piece of shit the Nats have made over the last 8 innings or so have landed just out of reach, or dribbled between, fielders.
  13. "Ceetar": fresh arm -- no more or less fresh than anyone else's after two weeks of the season they're a good 5 IP -- well, there's that I suppose he's close -- close to what ... close to ML ready after his 4.22 ERA / 1.59 WHIP of a season in A-ball? Look, I'm not putting down the move. Like I said, I have no opinion of the guy. But at the same time let's not mentally 'grass-is-greener' him into a reliable reliever based on 3 April outings in 40 degree weather. It's likely just a short-term thing anyway. Be cool if he were to pitch well enough to make them keep him up.
  14. Wait, who? Oh, This Guy Ummmm, never heard of him. OK, I probably did, but have no recollection of the name. He was the 'high-ceiling' guy in the Addison Reed deal. Turns 23 next month, great H/IP ratio during his minor league life [213 IP/ 164 H] but, as mentioned, then there are the walks: 92 to go with 193 K Has pitched Five innings in Bingo this season which brings his career total of innings pitched above the A-Ball level up to Five Did Robles quick-pitch that HR last night and thereby tick off mgmt?
  15. Geez, ya gotta make them earn it. Yeah they got a bunch of seeing eye hits, but none of them would have mattered without all the free passes and it's not like this is a good lineup right now.
  16. Wait a minute!! Those are paper signs behind home plate with no backing to them?!?
  17. Well, the SB we got away with was the Lagares swipe of 3rd. Not only was he out but it was a bad idea to begin with. But, as tends to happen so far in 2018, it all worked out for us.
  18. Not a bad send by Sherlock. Would have wanted him held if no outs and definitely sent if two. One out makes it a bit of a gray area but I can't fault him for the out.
  19. Im pretty sure I've seen cracked bat HRs, but not one where the lumber was sawed in two.

  21. And now [u:1ulcvp50]falling ice from the roof of the dome[/u:1ulcvp50] has postponed tonight's game in Toronto!!
  22. And just to show what good pitching can do: - Rangers 3 - Astros 1 4 runs total on 8 combined hits over 10 full innings in a nationally televised game (ie. longer commercials): Game time = 3:06 - Mets 3 - Brewers 2 5 total runs on 11 hits across 9 not quite full innings (due to the 2-out walk-off): Game time = 3:28 Bart threw 96 pitches over 7.2 innings, Verlander 100 over 8 full Contrast to Chacin's 85 over just 4 innings (plus he was slow as shit anyway) and Syndergaard's 101 over 5.1
  23. BoSox had their traditional Patriots Day game rained out this morning. And for the second day in a row -- should have been three according to Joe Maddon despite their ridiculous comeback with vs Braves on Saturday -- the Cubs have been weathered-out at Wrigley. That makes it eight cancelations out of a possible 20 non-dome games over two days -- six on Sunday plus several others delayed, and two so far today -- with the possibility of that number rising by the time we put Monday's sked to bed as non-dome sites tonight include the Bronx, Queens, and Pittsburgh (plus Atlanta, Oakland, and SD)
  24. The good thing about winning streaks containing wins you don't necessarily "deserve" and/or consisting of RS/RA differentials that shouldn't have been able to sustain them is that no one gets to take any of the wins back.
  25. The New York Daily News -- which may or may not be as reliable as those guys listed above -- is reporting that neither the Rays (Ramos) nor the Red Sox (Blake Swihart) have received an inquiry from the Mets on those guys.
