  1. Every inning without a soul-crushing/lead-reducing/multiple-run HR is a good inning.
  2. 4 run lead, 4 innings to go ... I'd say six or seven more runs and we've got a chance at pulling this one off.
  3. Hard-Hit Inning-Ending GiDPz R Us
  4. But as Ronnie said last night, being 'rushed' back is not an excuse - plus we have no idea if that evens applies to Swarzak anyway or if we're merely retro-fitting a reason to explain away bad pitching. Relievers are notoriously tough to predict and Gsellman's best month was April too and he suddenly can't get anyone out without a DL stint in between. But it's usually best to follow the old expression for sports in general: if you're injured you're not playing, and if you're playing you're not injured
  5. But at least we answer back with a 3-pitch K ... and then follow it up with a 5-pitch K ... and then follow that up with a weak grounder
  6. It's as if every player on the roster and every aspect of the game conspires to fuck up NYM leads in the late innings. In this case it was a leadoff hit, an error, walking the #9 hitter, and two bad relief appearances back to back - all in the same inning.
  7. Bring in a pitcher and we'll hit a HR off him. 3 outta 3 so far.

Well figure that with 30 teams, one team's "fair share" of the top 30 players is one player, so, yeah, two is better than one especially if one of those is considered in the top 1/3 of all players. And it certainly beats the heck outta; 'Eh, we decided to sit this one out' I'm unfamiliar with how international signings work. I know each team is alotted a pool of money. Every team uses that pool right? So it's just a matter of how well you scout? Today kicks off a new period of Int'l signings so presumably everyone's budget is full for the crop of newly-turned 16 y/olds. Strategy enters into things too as to whether you prefer to make a few big splashes or multiple smaller ones considering that these are 16 y/o kids for the most part and it's tough to predict if the ones at the head of the class at this age are going to stay that way as they get older.
  9. Geddy can often be seen in the seats directly behind home plate at Blue Jays games - so keep your eyes peeled this week.
  10. and there was much rejoicing ... YAY!

  12. This just in: David Price suxx vs the Yanquis. Or, should I say, he STILL suxx vs the Yanquis because he always has, whether with the Rays, Tigers, Tononto, or now the Sox. Career = 39 starts; 15-12; 4.67 ERA (vs 3.24 overall); 1.39 WHiP (1.15); 9.64 H/9 (0.89) Tonight: [crossout]4 runs in the 1st inning incl. 2 HRs and a 2B[/crossout] [crossout]on edit: 6 runs / 2 innings / 3 HRs[/crossout] =#0000FF]on re-edit: 8 Runs / 3.1 IP / 5 HR So now, after looking forward to this game all week, ESPN can't wait to dump out of it in order to get to their endless LeBron discussions.
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: The only good thing about Friday's debacle is that the bats were so shitty -- 7 hits (5 singles) plus NINE walks were virtually negated by 3 GiDP plus a pickoff plus 0/6 w/RiSP (10 LOB) -- that it's likely they would have lost even if deGrom had been pitching, so maybe they'll get it right this afternoon (a rare 4:10 start on a Miami Saturday) Didn't matter as it turned out: another day, another 2 run offensive outing, another whopping 6 hits with none, of course, coming w/RiSP
  14. Frayed Knot wrote: Even when they're going well, our pitchers lately have shown an amazing ability for 'bunching' the hits they do give up. In this case, after 2 singles and 0 walks thru 5, deGrom goes 4 singles, 1 BB, and 1 HR in the 6th. OK two of those singles were in the infield, but still ... To put it another way: 2 of the first 17 Marlin hitters reached base; 8 of the next 14 did.

  16. Leadoff double from Wilmer -- then the next seven batters after that got only one ball out of the infield: deGrom's short fly to LF
  17. Well, we have our run. Now we just need to see if we can make it stand up.

  19. He certainly doesn't look as ghastly thin as he did a number of months back (early this year? late last year? - can't remember now) and he's at least doing some baseball activities.
  20. So Rosario has walked three times tonight. BFD! Ya know what he hasn't done with those three walks? ... score a run!! And, Oh good, another weak pop-out!
  21. Weak grounders and pop-outs
  22. That Asdrubal GiDP was the most predictable AB* of the season. * except maybe for the inning-ending GO by Dom Smith the inning before.
  23. And of course no potential trades or new hires can be made until considering the most important question in all of sports these days: How will this all affect LeBron?
  24. Benjamin Grimm wrote: There are only 30 MLB GM jobs in the world, and each one is highly coveted. As always, this is true. And whoever the incoming dude winds up being, incumbent or outsider, I would think he'd prefer to start with at least a partially remade roster as opposed to one that was decidedly sub-par but then intentionally left that way.
