  1. Ron: "Now we see the repercussions of the replay that no one though of when they put the rule in" [u:tub6i5mv]I[/u:tub6i5mv] thought of them, Ron, and was constantly told that such 'what-if' calls would never happen and/or that they wouldn't matter, and that if I could just get my head out of the 1870s I'd enjoy all the 'progress' that the game is making.
  2. Obviously I screwed up by announcing Matz as the starter instead of Wheeler. The oddity was that I was checking my facts when I had a weather-related internet interruption and I thought this post had died before ever being born. Meanwhile, on that Bautista catch, there was some chick in one of those seats behind the netting that missed the entire play even as it was happening 15 feet in front of her. Not quite sure what she was looking at instead.
  3. Game 2 vs the Padres. Lefties all around: Matz vs rookie Eric Lauer -- 16 ML starts; 77.2 IP; 5-6; 4.87; 1.67 WHiP!, but better lately. Has never faced the Mets so I'm going to assume that he's never taken a no-hitter into the 6th inning either.

The Gary Sanchez 'solution' now involves him going to the DL 10-Day DL, because everyone knows that non-hurt Yanquis are too classy to loaf (ignore Cano, Giambi, etc.) so apparently his groin is the culprit here.
  5. So the first run in the Rays eventual 7-6 Monday night win over the Yanx comes with two outs in the bottom of the 1st when a runner [u:36z9v3x5]scores from 2nd on a passed ball[/u:36z9v3x5] because catcher Gary Sanchez loafed after the ball as it rolls part way towards 3rd base. He belatedly realized what was happening but rushed a bad throw to the pitcher covering. Now we fast forward (or 'slow forward' as it were) to top 9th: 7-6 Rays, bases loaded, 2 outs, Gary Sanchez at the plate - hits a grounder to SS who flips to 2B (or the other way around, who can tell with shifts these days?) for the game-ending force, but the confusing shift means that his other half is actually further from the base than him so the runner from 1st beats him to the bag and the game is going to be tied!! - eh, no worries, it's Gary Sanchez (not) running so there's still plenty of time to throw to 1st and nail him by two strides. Rays win, THAAAAAA Rays win. Tough night on the field for the Yanqui backstop. But at least he went 1-for-5 with a GiDP and 6 LOB at the plate
  6. Not only has this game gone to the dogs, but it's ground to a halt as well. One hour for the first four innings, now closing in on an hour trying to get thru the next two. Bases loaded for Reyes, a guy voted in his HS yearbook as the boy most likely to pop up.
  7. Amazing how this team manages to synch-up the pitcher mistakes with fielder errors so as to create opposition runs. Spread those outs and it would still be a shutout, but we can't seem to operate that way.
  8. Justin Turner to the DL ... Machado slides over to play 3rd.
  9. Pitched the 9th & 10th in his Oakland debut and was rewarded with the 'W' vs the Bay-area rivals when the A's pushed across the tie-breaking run in bottom 10th 2 innings, 6 batters, 1 hit, 1 K on just 22 pitches: Single - K - GiDP; Line-out - Pop-out - Pop-out A's won the game 'Yanqui-style: 5 runs via 4 HRs then won when an infield single + an error on SS Brandon Crawford allowed the winning run to score from 2nd

  11. They're going to get this one started at least - although there's another line of stuff in eastern PA right now that might come by later. The question is how soon and then how long into the night this one will go. These Sunday night games already start too late and now this makes it almost certain that I'm not going to be up by the end.
  12. Harv has actually been doing fairly well since the trade [5-3; 3.64; 1.17 over 12 starts] and better still if you ignore those first couple starts for Cincy [~2.40 ERA over last 6 starts/34 IP] but today's clunker vs Pittsburgh [8 earned on 8 hits, 2 HR in 3-2/3 IP ... ouch!] isn't going to help him or help the (43-56) Reds who are hoping to re-flip him before the deadline.
  13. Andy Martino: Mets have gotten to the point of [u:11bb6yuz]exchanging names[/u:11bb6yuz] with teams on Jeurys Familia trades. Nothing is imminent but bet on him moving well before deadline. [u:11bb6yuz]7-8 teams have shown varying degrees of interest[/u:11bb6yuz], plenty of scouts to see him tonight
  14. d'Kong76 wrote: You guys have to go back and watch dD call off Rosario. You have to yield to the outfielder there and dD didn't make the play. That bloop wasn't the problem -- I mean, yeah, it should have been caught, but that sorta shit happens in no-man's land -- but Rosario deserved an error for an early inning play plus the one he did get tagged with. And he swung the bat like shit too.
  15. bmfc1 wrote: Did Rosario forget the number of outs or was that just enthusiasm? He just wanted to make one good play before the night was over. Speaking of which, he had me real nervous when cutting in front of Asdrubal just prior to that. I'm totally shocked we won that game. Be nice to kick the shit out of Cloudy Gray tomorrow seeing as how the Yanx' bullpen -- at least the back end of it -- is going to be in much better shape than ours.
  16. I hate to even bring this up, but NO ONE hits more 314 foot specials than Gardener.
  17. That "wild pitch" was classic Sanchez and, in this case, it bought us a run. He's a good thrower on SB attempts but a stiff behind the plate otherwise and costs the Yanx a lot of PBs
  18. That K of Sanchez just jacked our odds of winning this game up to 8%
  19. Well, it was fun while it lasted.
  20. Un-Fuckin'-Believable Except that it's not.
  21. I'm just shocked that the wet-newspaper bloop off Judge's bat didn't find some grass somewhere. Everything else they've hit tonight has.
  22. The difference tonight (so far anyway) is no walks. The Yanx usually get their share of BBs which, when combined with these slop hits they're getting (what's that now, [crossout:2s3wfwch]7 of 9[/crossout:2s3wfwch] 8 of 10 which wouldn't break a pane of glass?) means lots of baserunners until someone "runs into one".
  23. That's two weak throws by Giancarlo, which is kind of odd for him but maybe he's one of those guys who can only get off good heaves when they get the chance to line up everything behind it. And while there are several good arguments against it (and the single by Cespedes makes it even worse) I was OK with Nimmo's try for 3rd there.
