  1. Asdrubal wins the game for the Phils -- one in which the Phils led 3-0 until the Marlins got 3 back in top-7 -- with a 2R HR in bottom 8. That's the good news for the Phightins concerning Cabby. The bad was that he had been 5-for-30 (1 2B, 1 HR) since the deal.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Given that we have two relievers I have any confidence in, and one gave us four outs yesterday, I'd have left Oswalt in. To begin the 7th? - Definitely. But then -- once he started that inning Single - HR - Single (bunt) -- I had no problem pulling him at that point.
  3. Much has been made of the Yanx & Sawx having two of their final four series against each other after this one concludes in Fenway tonight (currently scoreless in the 4th) but much less has been made of the sked the Yanx have coming up over the remainder of August CHW x 3 (currently 30 games below .500) TEX x 4 (-14) NYM x1 (rainout makeup) (-19) TBR x 3 (right at .500) TOR x 3 (-8) MIA x 2 (-20) BAL x 4 (-45)!! CHW again x 3 (-30) DET x 3 (-17) Starting Sept 3rd (Labor Day) they then head to the west coast to see if they can muck up the West race by playing both Oakland & Seattle But with that schedule for the next 26 games, the BoSox can't feel all that comfortable even as they're on pace for a 112 win season and will have either a 7.5 or 9.5 game lead in the East (depending on tonight's game)
  4. Nice AB from Blevins vs Freddie: threw him 8 straight strikes, finally got credit for 3 of them.
  5. Bartender: "So what'll ya have to bleepin' drink, Mac?" Customer: "Gimme an Effen vodka!"
  6. Minimum of once per series; he had it written into his contract.
  7. [u:3fha8zuj]Nineteen is Enough[/u:3fha8zuj] Or at least it appears to be as wumors are wunning wampant that Angels skipper Mike Scioscia will walk away (or be pushed) at the end of the season. 2018 is his 19th year as manager in Anaheim -- by FAR the longest in MLB -- and also marks the final year of his current ten year contract. oe: although Scioscia's comment was to the overnight report was "poppycock". No, really, he actually said that. Ken Rosenthal, via 'The Athletic' is the source of the story.
  8. And while I don't want to take anything away from Anibal Sanchez, he's not the same hard-thrower he was when he was younger but I don't think he put a ball near the center of the plate all night. He got the benefit of a few calls and got the Mets to chase but that's what happens when you're putting the pill where you want it. But, still, just two hits (fortunately in a row) with only two maybe three hard outs all night and then zippo off three straight relievers is pretty pathetic. That's 0, 1, 4*, 3, 2, and 1 runs over the last six games. Good thing we missed Scherzer and Strasburg, right? * 3 of them in garbage time of the 25-4 debacle ... at least we got a pitcher fired because of it

  10. Not even a sniff of a hint of a suggestion of a rally!
  11. Wait, the Yanx & Sawx completed a game in 2:15!?!?!? And that somehow happened with Severino throwing over 100 pitches in 5.2. Talk about your cats and dogs living together. 2:15 into a Boston/Yanx game usually finds you somewhere around the top of the 5th. 4-1 Red Sox is your final.
  12. Six runs allowed in two games and you feel like we've never been in either game. That it's a one-run lead and we have 2-3-4 coming up in bottom 9 doesn't evoke even a hint of a chance.
  13. And then there's shit like that which defies explanation
  14. Phrases that have become all too familiar this year: - two hits for the Mets through six - [opposing pitcher] has established his season high for strikeouts - can't get that hit with runners on - deGrom once again on the short end - Mets will have to come back against the [opposing team's] closer

  16. Lefty Specialist wrote: DeGrom sat at 4-0 on May 18, but is 1-6 in his past 12 outings despite a 1.86 ERA and a .204/.254/.313 opponents slash line in that span. The 30-year-old owns a 0.98 WHIP with only 32 walks and 164 strikeouts across 138 1/3 innings. DeGrom is 5-4 with a 1.80 ERA in 15 career starts against the Braves, but is 0-1 in four starts this season despite allowing two earned runs in 25 innings. Boy, I've seen pitchers with bad luck, but this is bordering on a criminal lack of support. I'm betting this game will be 0-0 in the sixth and they'll find a way to blow it. Meanwhile, I'm peaking in at the Sawx/Yanx and I see Boston hurler Rick Porcello at 13-4 with an ERA a few ticks over Four Sox are averaging over 6 R/G for him. Back in Queens, we have an insurmountable lead after two.
  17. She's all over the 'In-Trade' thread if you care to back-track what you may have missed.
  18. .... with "forearm strain" This, despite an MRI revealing "no structural damage" on Thursday. Corey Oswalt, soon to be playing at a ballpark near you.
  19. With their pitching in flux the Yanx are taking a chance on Adams, that would be right-hander Chance Adams who'll be making his ML debut in Fenway on Saturday. The 5th round/2015 draft pick was a back of the top-100 prospect prior to this season, but his 2018 has seen a step back for the 24 y/o (next week) from the 2017 stats that got his there [2.64 ERA in '17, 4.65 in '18] so these aren't exactly the ideal circumstances the team would draw up for his first game. But with the sun setting on Sonny Gray, and agent Syndergaard managing to secretly infect Jay Ay Happ after just one outing, and new pick-up Lancelot Lynn having to finish Gray's lone MFY start, and Sabathia lasting just 3 innings (77! pitches) on Thursday, they don't really have a lot of options.
  20. This stretch reminds me of how I felt during the 'Nieuwenhuis game' a couple years back. That bolt out of the blue shocked me so much because, while I knew that a 3R HR was theoretically possible, the odds of it actually happening were so low in my mind that I never considered it. We've reached the same point now. There have been a half dozen ABs here where a timely hit would have put us right back in the game, but I had ZERO cahnfidence in any of them. And this goes back to Zimmo's game-ending GiDP yesterday on the first pitch.
  21. MFS62 wrote: Cee Cee was pulled after three (he's on a pitch count???? ) No, he was just lucky to have only two runs against him. Currently 11-5, Sox still batting bottom 5th (that game started the same time as ours) The opening four innings took over two hours.
  22. In the first of four games in Fenway this weekend and the first of 10 BOS/NYY games still remaining for the season, CC Sabathia has thrown 75 pitches just to get through 3 innings (think this one is getting done in under four hours?) and yet is winning the game as the Sawx have left one, three, and two on while managing to hit two solo HRs (that's a tough act to pull off) 4-2 Yanx thru three The other big four-game series this week is the Brewers @ Dodgers. Brews took 2 of the first 3. Tonight it's Joulys Chacin (10-3) vs Kershaw Dodgers are tied w/DBacks. Brewers are 1.0 game behind Cubs
  23. In case you haven't seen him lately, he is noticeably slower / rustier / less mobile since returning from his lengthy knee-surgery rehab. Now maybe that gets a bit better as he knocks the rust off, but this is a guy not exactly known for being particularly fast or mobile in the first place. I suspect the 'he'll be American League player' tag will be attached to him in the rumor mills this winter.
  24. Like the automatic intentional walk, maybe we should just waive Trea Turner to 2nd then 3rd and save the time it will take him to steal those bags.
  25. It was as if they wanted to get to Reyes. It's been a trend all over MLB this year. The Mets had been one of the few teams NOT to employ a position player on the mound as it had already been done some 40 times this year. Not that it was going to make a difference in the game, but both the booth and the dugout seemed anxious to join the party as if this move made them part of the cool crowd or something. I'm hoping that the Dodgers lose the NL West by one game this year based on their use of Kike Hernandez rather than some back of the rotation starter during the 16th inning of a tied game in Philly last week. Or maybe they'll lose out in the WC race to Philly by a game.
