  1. Eight K's for Hamels -- Conforto, Frazier & Nimmo are seven of them (3, 2, 2)
  2. How them style points working out for ya Javy?
  3. That's now three baserunners we've given up in the first 12 innings of this series. We don't get enough of those to then just throw 'em away like that.
  4. Chicago, you've just been Murphed! Gary, I see, resisted the temptation to bring out his old "net negative" comment from years ago.
  5. I don't see where putting an unready player who hasn't played in 2-1/2 year into games is doing the right thing. Wright just played his first full game a couple days ago but then had to sit out two straight games after that because he didn't feel physically up to it.
  6. I don't think Wright's and Reyes's situations are in any way connected at this point.
  7. I dunno, folks. We bitch when we feel like the Mets are doing things for perceived PR or ticket sales reasons, so count me out of bitching at them for not. If he's ready then bring him up but if he's not then I'd rather they don't. And if David's status is the same come next April then I'll think we'll see him pull the plug, parting gifts to follow.
  8. Ronnie neglects to relate the great Lee Trevino line about one irons. Trevino, who was once injured by a lightning strike while playing a round, was asked what he'd do the next time he was out on a course during an electrical storm. "Hold up a one iron" was his answer. When it was suggested that that would make it even more likely that he'd be struck, he answered no because, "even God can't hit a one iron".

  10. Brian Greer - a guy I have no memory of, and for good reason. He debuted as a 18 y/o just three months after being drafted out of a California HS by the Padres in the 1st round / 8th overall pick. But, despite that pedigree, he landed himself a total of just 4 ML ABs in 1977 & '79, taking an oh-fer for his career. Kicked around the minors thru '83 but his .210 BA wasn't going to earn him another shot. And, of course, Julio Franco. No, not Francisco (a guy who is, at last check anyway, still dead)
  11. In the two games where we've been blown out by the Nats this year, we've managed to remove one of their high-priced relievers each time: 1) Shawn Kelley, whose frustration-triggered glove spike in the 7/31 24-5 game got him drop-kicked by the Nats before ever throwing another pitch for them 2) Kelvin Herrera, picked up just two months ago, doesn't look like he's returning to action anytime soon after spiking his ankle this afternoon, so he's possibly thrown his final pitch of the year for the Nats also and in neither case did a NYM player have anything to do with it. ... so, y'know, there's that.

  13. And, btw, I would NOT be one of those to happily sign up for only 5-1/2 games behind the Nots in late August! I wanted to, and still want to, beat the bastards, not be accept a 'gift' of being only somewhat behind them with a maybe, slim hope of possibly catching fire and catching them. Fuck that shit. That's not why I follow sports.

This is the 4th, and last, home Saturday day game of the season, and the first was game #2 of the season (it was still March).

Carry on Looks better in his 60s than he did in his 20s yeah if he didn't go around looking exactly like he used to he wouldn't look so pained to have to wave to other old dorks in the street calling "Ric! Big fan!!" I think he might be close to 70 Wikipedia has his birth as 'Sources Differ' and lists him at either currently 69 (70 next March) or 74!!
  16. So Jay Bruce turns out to be what this team was missing. Who knew?
  17. I don't think McNeil was faked by the faux tag, I just thought he was re-routing himself away from the 2B on his way back to 1st Plays like that -- or turning at 1st, etc. -- are supposed to involve intent but too often it gets interpreted by minute differences of route.
  18. So let me get this straight, the Nationals catcher who didn't grow up in Hawaii is the one nicknamed 'Maui' !?!?!!
  19. The first five innings of this game could take a full two hours or more with these two guys. Lots of deep counts, foul balls, high pitch counts, throws to 1st, step-offs, and just plain slow play. oe: and as I type that, Vargas has a quickie top 3rd
  20. That's gotta be: Turner, Ant(hony) Rendon, Harper (Mondo ... Really?), Zimmerman, Juan Soto, Kurt Suzuki, Michael A. Taylor(?), Wilmer Difo (making this a two-Wilmer game), and Gio Gonzalez
  21. Be nice if we could hit Gio for once ... or at least let him walk us a dozen or more times which is probably more likely. Our last five outings vs him we've scored 2, 1, 2, 2, 1 (Mets actually won one of those) Elsewhere he's coughed up 8, 5, 6, and 5 in four of his last six overall starts and totaled just 17 innings
  22. d'Kong76 wrote: Yeah I can only get WOR outside here, which is weird because I believe they both transit at maximum wattage and are both clear channel. Both are 50,000 Watts clear channel, but WOR's transmitter is in New Jersey while CBS's in the Bronx That's probably at least part of the answer for youse Westchester/Conn folk - although at 50K of power it still shouldn't be that drastic a difference. And the Mets win as I type!!!!!
  23. You give us 22 minutes, we'll give you ... umm, an inning plus commercials. More or less anyway. Admittedly it's a slogan that needs a little work.
  24. bmfc1 wrote: Mickey's over-managing like it's June. I dunno: Syndy labored thru the 5th & 6th and was over 100 pitches; quick turn-around tomorrow; didn't want Gsellman to go a second inning twice in three days; Lugo threw two frames last night; Zamora vs the LHB to start the 9th then Seawald against the RH's; Bashlor at the ready I can't argue too much with that.
  25. They need to put some 'stick'em' on that back wall so as to make it obvious when the ball clears the fence.
