  1. I like how the shadowing over the kids' faces hides their eyes enough to where those images can't be captured by facial recognition software and so a life of crime is still a viable option for either one of them. Well done if that was the intent. (whataya mean IF, of course it was)
  2. So this game's pretty much over, right?
  3. 'Who the hell is Max Muncy?' is the better question. Turned 28 y/o last week. 41st round draft pick out of HS, then went to Baylor U and upped himself to a 5th round pick by Oakland (2012). Got a little more than 200 ABs w/Oak in 2015 + 2016, hitting .175 with 5 HRs. Oakland released him on Opening Day 2017 then was picked up by the Dodgers a month later and spent the entire year in AAA Now he's hitting .257/.382/.589 w/31 HRs in 331 ABs No Kershaw in this series but we'll see three left-handers anyway.
  4. Dodgers back up atop the NL West (were 4.5 out 10 days ago) thanks to third straight 8th inning or later come-from-behind win against the Phoenix Snakes. - Friday: Justin Turner tie-breaking HR in the 8th to win 3-2 - Saturday: also a 3-2, this time on a Matt Kemp 3R HR in the 8th. - Sunday: 2-run walk-off double by Kemp in the 9th
  5. Eight innings from Syndergaard but less than seven (average) innings worth of pitches. Bring. Him. Back.
  6. Things zipping right along here - as they have for the first two games of the series [2:22 and 2:56 for 11 innings] Helps that neither team can hit; 13 runs in total so far through 26-1/3 innings played.
  7. 11 Innings = 2:56 Bet that hasn't happened in years ... maybe decades! oe: finished about 6 or 7 minutes ahead of the Yanx/Tiggers game (same starting time) which was also a 2-1 score but went just 8-1/2 innings
  8. The aliens have shown up and they're not at all nice. The good news is that they're blind. The bad is that they hunt by sound and they're very good at it. ' They're fast, they're vicious, and they'll rip your lungs out, Jim. So one has to be vewy, vewy, qwiet. Fortunately the featured family in this film knows sign language due to having a deaf daughter. But, as you can imagine, it's not so easy to raise young children under those circumstances. Y'know what's even tougher? Giving birth under those circumstances! John Krasinski and Emily Blunt stretch their skills to play a married couple. Basically the movie is them, couple of young 'uns, and a few ugly lookin' critters. In English and Sign Language with English subtitles, although the amount of dialog in this one makes JEREMIAH JOHNSON sound downright chatty. 90 minutes
  9. 2015 AL MVP Josh Donaldson goes from Toronto to Cleveland Injuries have limited him to just 137 ABs this year and none since late May - although he was just rehabbing this week so perhaps he's ready to contribute ... I dunno, something. And if he's the guy that beats the Yanx in the post-season than that's even better.
  10. Conveniently, the Brewers are visiting the D of C this weekend. Not so fast with that right hand turn, Gio. Your clubhouse is to the left. The Nats are going to be a very different team next season. Murphy, Gio, most of the bullpen already gone; Harper, Weiters, and Jeremy Hellickson are FAs
  11. The Nats remade their bullpen at the beginning of the year in anticipation of post-season need, but have now almost completely UN-made it as Ryan Madson goes to the Dodgers. Madson follows Brad Kintzler, Shawn Kelley, and AJ Cole, out the door. Also, former NYM prospect Drew Butera from the Royals to the Rockies
  12. I watched this game on delay and just realized that I had yet to erase it. But before I did, I forwarded it to the spot in the top of the 3rd inning spot Conforto got picked off (once replay review was employed) to end the inning. I wanted to check that play because, you may recall, Gary, and to a lesser degree, Ron, got into a discussion over the amount of time it took Madden to ask for the replay which, they said, was clearly over the allotted time. What I found: -- it was 50 seconds before the umps walked over the get the headphones on (about 55 until they were putting them on). That's 20+ seconds after the umps should have resumed play and told Madden to go screw. -- it was then another 1:25 before reaching a decision. There have been promises of time limits since the beginning of the NFL's replay system now nearly four decades ago, but the next time those are enforced will be the first time because once you align yourself with the church of "getting it right" then there's no limit to what plays can be reviewed and how long they can be studied before reaching a conclusion -- and, since that was the final play of the inning, it was another 2:25 until the first pitch of the next half-inning (should be 2:05) Time between pitches = 4:45

Among others things from Wednesday's games: Christian Yelich = 6-for-6 including a cycle I posited the question beginning of last season (2017) about betting on the future of just-then traded Miami OFs Yelich or Stanton I was inclined to go in on Yelich's more all-around-ness over Stanton's obvious power edge. I would have lost that bet last season [CY = 120 OPS+ vs GS @ 169 and a near MVP] But not so much this season as Yelich will probably get some Top-5 MVP points with his league leading .319 BA and 148 OPS+. Stanton has managed to stay in the lineup everyday since being dealt to the Bronx (never a given with him) but is down to a 129 OPS+ and is only out-HR'ing Yelich by 32 to 26 despite more GP and PA/ABs Yelich is also a full two years younger and singed to a much nicer contract, from a team's vantage point anyway.

  16. Ah yes, the pre-August 31st deadline. Y'know, like the one that sent Verlander to the Astros last year. Well, in addition to the Jose Bautista to the Phils move, the Braves counter by saying we'll see your ex-Met and raise you by a Lucas Duda
  17. Erasing [u:12g1o5hr]Five[/u:12g1o5hr] different base-runners (via caught stealing, K/CS DPs, Line-out DPs, etc.) and going one for a million w/RiSP doesn't help. When the sum total of the offense is your pitcher's infield single ...
  18. A Boy Named Seo wrote: This game is resuming in a half hour, yeah? As far as I know it'll be at 2:20 EDT (1:20 local time) - normal starting time for the regular game which will follow the conclusion of the unfinished one.
  19. That's right, he was called out for leaving too early from 2nd not for the play at 3rd. The Atlanta announcers were making some comments, while the review was taking place, about there being a time clock on each angle to make sure the two are synched-up. I didn't really hear their whole discussion but it sounds like the umps in the Chelsea studio get the feed from the networks which includes all the time stamps on them rather than the "cleaned up" version that goes out over the air. Or maybe they were just assuming that, I don't know, but there have been enough media visits into the the control center there where I assume they've got good info on what the men in blue see.
  20. There's a saying in politics that the first side to resort to invoking Hitler (or Nazis or fascism) in an argument is the loser. It's also the rule that's probably broken more than any other. In actual baseball news: - the Phils scored on a 1-out/bottom-9th double by ex-Nat Wilson Ramos to close their deficit down to 5-4 with 2 outs in the 9th vs the Nats Seeing as how Ramos was the tying run but also is slow enough to be an honorary Molina brother, a pinch-runner was required. But, in this age of short benches, Philly resorted to using pitcher Vince Velasquez So Velesquez decides he needs to tag up on a fly to CF by the next batter ... because we all know how important it is that he get to 3rd with 2 outs ... and your team starting to lose it's grip on a playoff spot. He was thrown out to end the game ... on a replay reversal no less. Phils lost another game in the standing (Braves beat TBR) and are now 4.5 behind the Braves and just 3.5 ahead of the Nats Pitching stats for the Nola/Scherzer matchup - the second of these inside a week: Scherzer: 5 innings (99 pitches) 3 Runs, 4 H, 5 K, 2 HR. ERA now 2.22 Nola: 7 IP, 2 Runs (1 earned), 4 H, 8 K, 2 BB. ERA now 2.10 JdG ERA = 1.68 None of the three CY contenders registered a decision

That's kind of a crazy long game to play for a franchise that doesn't do very well with foresight. Especially seeing as how this announcement that he won't be getting called up is doing quite the opposite at this point. So if their only goal here was to generate some sepia-toned photos of those two in a SS/3B embrace, they're certainly doing a rotten job of it. What they're saying about Wright is that he's not ready now and that there's not enough minor league time left in the season for him to get ready. And then there's the implication that he may never again be ready but I think the plan, should it come to that, would be some sort of joint announcement (with financial agreements having already been negotiated and set in writing) where it at least looks like his decision to pull the plug. I mean, shit, even the Yanx & ARod managed that and they were doing everything short of suing each other at the time. Will an additional off-season of rest and rehab help???? As your Magic Eight Ball might have said (prior to you cracking it and getting that blue shit all over your hands and your mom's carpet) 'Reply Hazy, Try Again'
  22. Not to be biased or just reacting to the moment ... but just give him the fucking CY now!!!!
  23. Now if only there were the slightest chance of us winning this game.
  24. Playing deGrom to pull ... Really?!? And against a lefty no less!
  25. Gotta say that I like Madden going to the PH this early and a good riddance to Mr. Hole Camels. And the K of LaSTELLA makes me like it even more.
