  1. The Tiger booth and the Mariners clubhouse on the same day. A clubhouse erupting (this one reportedly between Dee Gordon and Jean Segura) I've heard of. Gotta admit, though, that fists flying in the booth is a new one on me.

But there are some there who seem unaware that they're even at a ball game! Hart & Sugarman (I had no idea who either of them were) were the ones I was talking about above. I guess if you go to that many games that it seems mundane, even from those seats. But early on there were sequences of 5 or 6 pitches where neither one looked up even once. And that was when both were awake!
  3. OK, let's close these fuckers out. I really wanted to see a sweep here but I'll take two of three while knocking them out of 1st place for a while.

  5. Just keep swinging for those solo HRs Dodger bats. As long as your success rate out-pacing the outs by a 2-1 ratio you'll have time to catch up.
  6. I thought Nimmo was safe on first viewing (trying to beat out a GiDP in top 8th) but there's no way in hell there was clear visual evidence of it.
  7. How come the Yanquis are hitting in Dodger Stadium tonight??? I've never seen so many bloops in one game in my life outside of the Bronx.
  8. Brandon Nimmo final OPS for August: 1.058. OPS for September: 1.162 Projected OPS for October: A BAZILLION And at this point you can even start citing the full year production despite the large holes he's had in his season. A good benchmark on the 'Slash Stats' for a 'Star' player is often said to be 300/400/500 Nimmo's season now sits at somewhere around 275/390/510 across nearly 450 PA

  10. Not exactly knocking the walls down with these hits here, eh?

  13. So I saw where the Braves, having lost their first two of a home series vs Boston this week, were getting a 2-hitter this afternoon from Foltynewicz and were up big (7-1) after the 6th ... so I stopped paying attention. Later I pass by a TV in the gym where I see hi-lights of the Sox scoring 6 in the 8th then 2 more in the 9th to complete the sweep. After the Sox' 6 run 8th, Freddie PH'd a solo HR to put the Bravos back up 8-7 but then 37 y/o Brandon Phreakin' Phillips, called up by Boston for the expanded rosters and playing his first ML game all year, cracks a long 2-Out/2R HR in top 9 to give them their first and only lead of the game. Kimbrel then closed it out. The Braves still have a 3.5 game lead but if Philly wasn't 5-11 in their last 16 it would a whole 'nother story up on top of our division. Braves themselves are just +1 (29-28) since July 1st (Mets are +2) and the mediocrity at the top of the NL East is the reason why the Nats STILL aren't out of it despite conceding more than a month ago and being -11 since the beginning of June!! Braves & Philly have seven games remaining in the final weekend of the season and the Braves will be at CitiField for three in between those two series so maybe we can still have some say in this race (either by winning or by sucking).
  14. If he caught it, he wouldn't have thought he needed to trick the ump, right? We still don't KNOW that he did. And, unless either Frazier himself comes clean or Gelbs reveals his source, I don't think we're going to know because the video evidence certainly doesn't prove anything one way or the other. The guy in the Turner shirt (there were several) picks up A ball but how do we know THAT'S the real one?

To me that seems about an accurate a read on the Pons as possible, and far harder on out-of-touch Fred than on just-simply-unlikable Jeff. Yeah, it may be fashionable for Met fans to convince themselves that the Wilpons are evil, or that they don't care, or that they'd prefer finishing 4th while making ten bucks to winning but only making five, but they're not doing themselves any favors by clinging to that. And of course nothing is easier than simply blaming everything that screws up on the rich guy's son, but that can be a misdirection as well.
  16. I'm talking about those who go back to the old forum, the one that predated (and eventually caused) this one.
  17. But who's going to SHOW US THE PLAN ?!? Old timers here are chuckling right now
  18. Sherman's follow-up article on this topic.
  19. Yeah that's the thing, Gelbs gave us no clue as to where he got his info or if Frazier himself has fessed up to this. I personally hope Frazier continues to claim his catch even in the face of sworn affidavits from front row Dodger fans, threatened lawsuits from LA-area politicians, and visual proof from some not-yet-seen camera angle.

Hit hit just 38 LAD HRs while batting .243 (.263 as a Met) This sort of selective amnesia is one of the things that annoyed me about 'WORST TEAM MONEY CAN BUY' Because the writers got so much copy out of having Strawberry around they mistook column inch numbers for stat sheet numbers and cited the failure of the Mets to re-sign him to be the #1 cause of the team's crash as if Straw's decline in health and production either never happened or somehow wouldn't have happened if he didn't switch coasts.

But it's one thing for the new GM to take Omar's advice into consideration vs the Wilpons maybe going over the GM's head in favor of what Omar wants to do. What I think most gets the 'Pons into trouble is that they're stuck between wanting to hire a guy they can trust but then never quite letting go of the idea that at times they know better. That's what Steinbrenner used to do in the Bronx but his advancing age and Cashman having enough pull in the org to put his foot down eventually kept (at least most of) the decisions from being ping-pong-ed between the Bronx & Tampa depending on who whispered into George's ear most recently. Not coincidentally (seeing as how he and George were fast friends) I suspect this is much of what goes on in 1600 Penn Ave these days as well. Take the training wheels off and trust that the new guy isn't going to crash his brand new shiny bike by December 26th. And if you're not sure he can manage that then don't hire him.
  23. From that Sherman article: "Those close to Minaya insist he does not want the GM job, but it is clear that whoever does get the position is going to inherit Minaya as an executive with — at the very least — significant say in player personnel, and someone who has the ear and trust of ownership." So if Mr. Potential GM Candidate doesn't want Minaya then he disqualifies himself from the position regardless of other assets/deficits? Either that, I guess, or he shuts up and grudgingly accepts a right-hand/rival whom he doesn't want who could potentially steer Eff & Jeff towards a move in direct opposition to his choice.
  24. Looks like 'only' about 15 or so runs driven in by Ruth in 1918 came while playing as a pitcher. And, so far anyway, none of Ohtani's have seeing as how he plays in the wrong league for that sort of thing, even though he's the first player since Ruth to hit at least 15 HRs in a season whilst pitching over a certain number of innings.
  25. Question = When was the last time a NYM position player drove in a run while deGrom was in the game. That was four starts and 23 innings pitched ago. In that Aug 18th game in Philly, Jeff McNeil drove in the 3rd and final NYM run of the game with a 7th inning triple. JdG would go on to pitch the 7th thru 9th innings to finish the complete game 3-1 win. JdG = 9 Innings / 1 Run (none earned) Since then: - Aug 23: Todd Frazier hit a solo HR for the only NYM run of the game but that came after deGrom had left. Final was Giants 3 - Mets 1. JdG = 6 Innings / 2 Runs (1 earned) - Aug 28: deGrom drives in the only NYM run of the game in what was eventually a 2-1 11 inning Met loss. JdG = 8 Innings / 1 Run - Sept 3: deGrom drove in the only NYM run of the game until after he left with the game tied. Nimmo's game-winning 3R HR came later and got credited to Drew Smith. JdG = 6 Innings / 1 Run In the last four games, he has allowed three earned runs and driven in two This is starting to remind me of the year that Pudge Rodriguez stole more bases than he allowed as a catcher.
