  1. Headline: The Mets get 23 hits and win in a squeaker. Hey Drew Gagnon, What the Fuck, man? So I hit the sack with the radio on after 7, Mets up 10-4 I fall asleep quickly only to wake up a short time later to the words "And the Braves get the tying run to the plate" Not exactly what you want to hear at that time of night but, at the same time, also not totally unexpected. During that entire game it seemed like we should have been winning by a bigger margin than whatever the score was at the time. 3 DPs, 14 LOB, and 5 for 17 w/RiSP isn't exactly piling-on material. The seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" out-hit the Yanx last night by a similar margin to our game [24/9 vs 23/10] yet they romped their way to a 19-5 win and, I'm guessing, didn't have to wake their closer from his nap in the process.
  2. I don't like that this lead is about half of what it should be (Hits = 17:4) and that the Braves still have four shots left at chipping away at it, especially seeing as how Atlanta bats score a large percentage of their runs in late innings. And so it starts ...
  3. It sounds weird to say in a 7-1 game, but that was a big GiDP there. Braves have one hit so far and that was somehow an infield single by Brian McCann - a guy who might finish in a dead heat in a sprint with Wilson Ramos. I mean, at least make them earn it!!
  4. And if we'd quit hitting DPs things might be going even better. With Braves pitchers having retired just four of the 15 batters they've faced [8 hits + 3 BBs] six runs allowed is almost good news.
  5. I mostly stayed out of the non-baseball forum during my second stint there. Talking baseball with those chuckleheads was enough of a chore.
  6. Wound up out-hitting them 12-8 AND played better defense, but six of the Braves eight hits hits came not only consecutively but also with RiSP. We, meanwhile, left 212 runners on base. OK actually only 10, but still, they left only 5 while we were 3-fer-11 w/RiSP to their 6/12
  7. Conforto OWES Schaefer for this game.
  8. Oh good, another leadoff batter on!!!
  9. But at least we're putting up a good fight against the bullpen
  10. Mickey will give us some crap like "Steven got tired running the bases". I suspect he had already decided to pull him after the final three outs he got were all bullets right at OF'ers, but then allowed him to hit anyway because, well why not?, he swings as well as anyone left on the bench.
  11. Every one of these hits is coming with 2 strikes
  12. And now to the top four in their order, all four of whom are hitting like .700 over the last month or so.
  13. That's at least the fourth time in maybe the last ten days that Alonso has strayed too far for a grounder that was easily field-able by the 2nd b-man
  14. And now a premature pulling of Matz is looking like it might coincide with a rare off night by Lugo ... which would be a return to bullpen practices of earlier in the year.
  15. Well, at least the Yanx can't fatten up on the Orioles for the remainder of the season. By winning this afternoon they close out the season series 17-2 including the last 16 straight. The two they lost were both in the first series of the year; after losing opening day, the Orioles won game #s 2 & 3 Run aggregate winds up at 151 to 83 and the Yanx hit 61 HRs this season just vs Baltimore.
  16. That seems like a very A's thing to do.
  17. Most of that stuff seems to be about 18 years old at this point (judging by the ARod/Giambi references). Incredible. Some version of that forum still exists it looks like. I have no idea if any name we knew from then is still there now. Steven J.? I haven't even visited there in many moons, even in the guise of the alter-ego I created a while after a 'cooling-off' period following the split. My new character didn't post a lot but was active for a while. It was also a very disliked character, something which thrilled me to no end.
  18. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Willets Point wrote: =kcmets post_id=18785 time=1565802941 user_id=53] See him on/in stuff every once and awhile. Looks good, for a Yankee fan. When & how did he become a Yankees fan? Or was he wolf in sheep's clothing the whole time? I didn't think he was a Yankees fan, I think that's just the job he got. Is that right?
  19. Is that the guy who wrote the Airstrip post? Nah. The guy at the top was something like 14 y/o (hence the "feel old?" subject) back when he started a NYM website which was attached to a fan forum (Mets Online FOrum) which eventually spawned this place when much of this crew made a break for it after that one started to get overrun by too many teenagers (of all ages) and after too many disagreements turned into too many full out flame wars. God help me but I did love it so. The next guy mentioned (Weisman) kind of ran the place with a bias towards those he was friends with and against those with whom he wasn't. Most of us weren't. He's referenced in the 'Airstrip' piece but that was written by a guy, 'Big Al', who'd pitched as high as AAA before arm injuries ended his dream ... or at least that's what he claimed. Could have been an actuary for all we know; you know the definition of an actuary, right? ... someone too dull to be an accountant. 'Al' would only post occasionally but when he did it would often be with the flair of a noir fiction writer which tended to make him a breath of fresh air in a sea otherwise full of angry screamers. 'Ambler' was the forum curmudgeon.

  21. Only six of the 16 games played on Tuesday (there was one DH) managed to clock in at under 3 hours Of the ten that ran longer than 3:00 all ten ran north of 3:10 and there were the same number of games (6) that took over 3:30 as there were under 3:00 One game went extra innings (10) but six others had the home team winning after 8-1/2 And while there were some high scoring games on the night, the overall average of RS/G (9.44) was slightly under the season average (9.68) Full slate: 2:21, 2:38, 2:38, 2:45, 2:48, 2:54 3:16, 3:17, 3:18, 3:22, 3:32, 3:42, 3:44, 3:46, 3:47, 4:07 (10)
  22. =ashie62 post_id=18733 time=1565750614 user_id=90] Dilson or Miguel Tejada?
  23. Max Fried is now 14-4 with a (coming into the night) 4.14 ERA Jacob deGrom, when asked to comment, said; "What the Fuck, man!"
  24. 1-fer-10 w/6 Ks from the top two in the order. Contrast that w/the Braves who were 5-fer-8 from the top four* in their lineup just in the first two times thru the order. * All told: 8 for 17 (plus a walk) including 3 runs scored and 3 knocked in
  25. =Gwreck post_id=18720 time=1565749458 user_id=56] Two runs is manageable with top of the order coming up in the ninth.
