  1. Four-plus innings worth of pitches for Montgomery but with no outs yet recorded in the 3rd. And this is with him getting ahead of nearly everyone and just now issuing his first walk.

  3. Has a successful pickoff ever NOT been followed by the manager asking for a delay while his team checks with their video guy?
  4. What was that candy commercial a couple years back: Not going anywhere for a while? Neither are we.
  5. There's an old line about how the small guy has to prove he can play while the big guy has to prove he can't. So, yeah, particularly when they're in the early stages of of rating talent, the smaller ones really need to stand out in order get selected. With your friend's kid, if he shines in JuCo maybe that gets him to a bigger school which, if he continues to improve, makes him a draft pick even if he never gets any bigger. Jett obviously has enough skills and potential to not just get drafted but make the top half of the 1st round. Do that and they stop caring how tall you are.
  6. Yan have had 92 of their 97 games this season started by their main five starters: Gerritt Cole = 20; Jordan Montgomery = 19; Jameson Taillon (19); Nestor Cortes (18); Luis Severino (16). On the offensive side, only Josh Donaldson has missed as many 10 games (11 - and that was part injury/part suspension). But Severino is on the IL, and now so is Stanton, plus their bullpen has taken some hits.
  7. The island of Taiwan [also known as Formosa and/or Taipei]
  8. Landing a Bye gives you a 0% chance of being knocked out in the opening round of playoffs. Even three home games vs a (technically) inferior opponent isn't going to reduce the odds to much less than 30-40% chance of not surviving. It's Yuge.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: That looks like a not-so-impressive Yankee lineup until I remember that Matt Carpenter has turned into Harmon Killebrew since joining the team. Not Killebrew, but rather just a hair off the pace of Barry Bonds circa 2001 [1 HR every 6.6 ABs as opposed to 6.5 for Bonds] Put another way, Carpenter is hitting HRs at nearly double the rate of Judge this season and only Schwarber, Alvarez (HOU), and Riley (ATL) are within 10 of Judge's 37.
  10. I think "back of the rotation" is a bit harsh for a guy with a better than lg-avg ERA. His K-rate is down and his ERA up about a half R/G as compared to his NYM years, but his WHIP and other peripherals [hits, BBs, HRs] are in the same neighborhood. Plus it's also just a half-season following two complete missed ones and, at not yet 30 y/o (late August), there's still lots of time to see what he'll be going forward. Not that I was talking about any of that though. The only point here is that he, like Wheeler & Harvey, missed around 35% of their potential starts as Mets while deGrom, who is now frequently referred to as "fragile", was anything but that until this time last year. If tomorrow truly is his final rehab start prior to recall he'll have around a dozen starts to audition for his next, and likely final, contract this winter. It's going to be an interesting trial.
  11. =whippoorwill post_id=100683 time=1658584371 user_id=79] The sad part is that deGrom seemed so healthy for so long, when all those other pitchers went by the wayside.
  12. JdG to pitch in a day game on Wednesday in Syracuse for his ?final? rehab start.
  13. It actually wasn't his glove, he just sat back on a mini-bloop in front of him only to watch it take a 45 degree bounce past him and into foul territory in short RF. 3 - 3 as Phiily bats in bottom 5
  14. Braves are in Philly for a three-gamer Mon, Tues, then Wed afternoon Tonight: Top 2, scoreless, Braves up w/2 out nobody on: Single, Single, BB, E-5* 2 runs score batter goes to 3rd, WP run scores 3-0 Atlanta heading for bottom 2 * and it wasn't even Alex Bohm, it was ex-Brave Johan Camargo (obviously still on the payroll). It was a ridiculously easy throw but Hoskins at 1B didn't do him any favors as it could easily have been scored E-3 oe: Although as I type the Phils get 2 of those back on a weird bounce that Olson at 1B didn't play well
  15. The last five games for Boston [two before the break and the three since]: 0-5 while being outscored 67 - 13

  17. Thoughts on the Game!!! - For as shaky as he looked last night in virtually every inning, Carrasco wound up tossing 5 scoreless ... and that's not nothing. - Huge two-out bail-out plays by Nimmo and McNeil saved at least three runs and potentially a lot more. Remember them in your Schaefer voting - SDP innings ended on: the sliding 4-3 play by McNeil with the bases loaded (1st), a CS (the Lindor push his leg off the base play in the 2nd), a GiDP (3rd), Nimmo's catch at the wall with a runner on 2nd (6th), another good 4-3 play by McNeil (8th) with 1st-&-3rd, a the Diaz K to end the game with the tying run on deck. There but for fortune ... - Did Lindor push the runner's foot off? ... quite possibly yes. But in order to overturn that on replay they'd have to determine that it was not only his intent to do so but that he did it with more force than whatever 'normal' is. So I guess SD took a chance that that's exactly what the umps in the office would conclude (as his foot WAS clearly off) but that's a low pct play and I'd have thrown a fit if it were overturned. - Pete
  18. Benny Agbayani rarely described with the word 'svelte'.
  19. Diaz (and McNeil) keeping the tying run away from the dish .
  20. Ummm, tying run on deck and still no outs.
  21. =nymr83 post_id=100901 time=1658715076 user_id=54] Peterson in relief?
  22. Other than the fact that it's taken three hours to play 7 innings ... I'm starting to like this game.
  23. And now it's time for a drink!
  24. Vogelbach looks like a someone stuck a baseball uniform on a manatee.
