MLB Field Day They did that one year and someone (Barry Larkin?) hurt his arm in the throwing comp and they never went back. With even hard core NBA fans now admitting that the dunk contest has been totally lame for more than a decade now, the NHL runs the best skills competition at their ASG

Exactly how do they expect me to survive on such meager rations? Well fortunately there's apparently a seven-part documentary on Derek Jeter you can watch. Y'know, I might have even watched it if it were two or three parts. But Seven?!? He's just not that interesting. And he was intentionally not that interesting.

  4. Leave it to ESPN to run a two hour Baseball Tonight at 4:00 followed by another one hour version at 7:00 all on a night when there are no baseball games being played.
  5. Also, recalling maybe the most important lesson from MONEYBALL: it's easier to recover from the player you fail to sign than it is to recover from the one you sign at the wrong price. And before anyone jumps in with the argument that Cohen has unlimited money so that lesson as it applied to the turn of the century A's doesn't apply to the '22 Mets, the 'price', in this case, is players more than money; a Juan Soto speculation article today, for instance, said that the price for him would start at Alvarez + Baty + Vientos before moving on to probably also taking one or more bad contracts back such as Corbin or Strasburg. And again, focusing on the player aspect of this rather than the dollars and knowing how long it takes to find and develop ML talent plus the odds of success in doing so, does dealing for one-plus year of Ohtani and taking on Trout for not just his current self but also into his sunset years (thru age 38), or for two-plus years of Soto, offset the loss of ALL of your best talent make immediate and/or longer term sense? After all, the team that has those two guys now can't make it work or they wouldn't (theoretically anyway) be on the trading block. I'm not saying I'm against any potential deal and of course you want to investigate what the cost might be. Only that the immediate fan and sportswriter reflex in these cases is that the Mets/Yanx HAVE to do 'whatever it takes' to get this done NOW!!!! No they don't.
  6. So how about this slash line for #1-overall Jackson (son of Matt) Holliday during his 40 game senior year at Stillwater (OK) High School: .685/.749/1392 // 2141 52 of his (national HS record) 89 hits went for extra bases: 29 2Bs, 6 3Bs, 17 HRs At 6' 1" / 175 (though potentially still growing) he clocks in at a lot smaller than his 6' 4" / 240-ish dad. He also swings lefty and, at least for now, lists as a SS
  7. Our other picks last night: 2nd round (52 overall) -- Blade Tidwell, RHP Tennessee #75 (the Syndergaard pick) -- Nick Morabito (not to be confused with Micky Morandini) OF, Gonzaga College HS, Washington DC
  8. These interviews with the redhead are painful.

  11. Now we need a 1-2-3 DP
  12. Hey, if the Cubs want to hand us two wins I'm not about to refuse ... but I'm not sure we've earned either of them.
  13. See, here's what I mean. This is the 3rd mound visit from the dugout in the last two batters. I wouldn't allow three in a game.
  14. =TransMonk post_id=100044 time=1658024554 user_id=71] Vince Vaughn was the 7th inning stretch leader of “Take Me Out…”
  15. Mets made Smyly the pitcher who went into the cold (shower). Yeah, I know, it's a stretch
  16. Ross going for the hat trick ... but is denied when his shot hits the post.

  18. Mets have their strikeout shoes on today.
  19. It's going to be another long one in the Bronx. 1st inning took a half hour. 4-1 Yanx. Multiple hard outs on each side or it would be more. Taillon & Pivetta are the [CROSSOUT]victims[/CROSSOUT] pitchers, at least for now. And Matt Carpenter hit another HR, his 12th in 72 ABs. Bonds, in the year he hit 73, didn't hit 'em at this rate.
  20. So has a Met who was inserted as a pinch-runner for an injured automatic runner ever garnered any Schaefer points despite not actually doing anything as the runner nor subsequently coming to the plate? I'm guessing not, but JDD might break that oh-fer
  21. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Awful strike zone so far I was gonna say, hope Taijuan gets the same sized zone. Actually, since he's twice the size of Stroman, he should get twice the zone.
  22. Edgy MD wrote: Wilson Alvarez is correct! He was the first guy I thought of ... it just took me half a day to remember his nane.
  23. Sox win!!!!
  24. KCR won their first game in Toronto with eight minor league Covid replacements on their roster on Thursday night ... but no such luck tonight (8-1 Jays)
  25. Sawx score on a Very Short wild pitch w/2 outs in 10th. Now let's see if they can make a one run lead stand up in the ghost runner era.
