  1. Not sure I approve of the send though. Also, a fade-away foot slide would have been a better choice for Marte.
  2. Risky to go to Vogel in a GiDP situation ... but I approve
  3. Cano, Tatis, Bonds, Boone (Bret at least): steroid using second (and third) generation players.
  4. OK, we've got [CROSSOUT]6[/CROSSOUT] 5 outs to their 3. Let's do something with that edge.
  5. So this will peg his return to about a month into next year [50-ish remaining + the first 30 next year] meaning that stupidity [motorcycles + drugs] is going cause him to miss just shy of 200 consecutive games. Way to make your team regret making you their face and their highest paid player before you even had 100 ML games under your belt; making MLB regret making you the face of the game, and embarrassing your father while we're at it.
  6. And now Canha with the 7-3 put out.

  8. The other thing that happens is that if I switch back to regular TV during a commercial I then have to re-set APPLE when I switch back to it. I don't have that problem with say MLB.TV or with other streaming services.
  9. The Pause and FF/REW on my remote has no effect on the APPLETV picture so I can't use those to synch up with radio... and the radio is about 4 pitches behind.
  10. =Gwreck post_id=103600 time=1660348934 user_id=56] Positive COVID tests? Not sure what else would have prompted them both being pulled.
  11. Well now we know who's 4th on the 3B depth chart.
  12. Not noticing any difference in picture quality. But if you are maybe you can answer this question: is that 30-weight oil in Brandon Marsh's hair or 40?
  13. At least this doesn't come on the heels of something stupid like crashing a motorcycle. Oh wait ... So how's that $325mil decision looking now?
  14. =nymr83 post_id=103554 time=1660341232 user_id=54]A (gambling-oriented) article in the Athletic recently posited that the Mets have had some batted ball luck this year and that the Braves have in fact played better.
  15. I had no idea tonight was an Apple game. Fuck! As far as the deadspin article, I don't care if it's Philly-centric or not. The problem with it is that the author acts as if Keith works 162 ganes/year but is refusing to do these and these alone,, even to the point of losing pay for them, all out of some sort of odd principle he can't understand. You can't understand it, dude, cuz you're overthinking things and you wasted a half-page of stats trying to figure it out. B-b-b-but, the 2022 Phillies aren't statistically the worst of all time ... not even of this current season!! Wow, thanks man, that changes everything. I'll be on the first flight.
  16. Look, Keith (and Ron) are contracted for X number of games per year* so each is going to miss various series during the course of the season including deGrom starts, division rival games, and other important match-ups. And of course all that stuff -- how many home games, how many long road trips, etc. -- is up for negotiations, including this series. If Keith wants to take this one off because the Phils lack of "fundies" (unlike what the linked article harps on, it's not just the physical errors or poor range) offends his aesthetic sense of the game then that's as good a reason as any as far as I'm concerned. He has to know that he'd take heat for going public with the reason and obviously doesn't care. Neither do I. I think it's kind of amusing actually. * a bit over 100 IIRC so each is missing approx 1/3 of all games
  17. See, I'm actually early this time so no one needs to panic about late-starting IGTs (at least for now). Friday [7:10] Ranger Suarez (L) [8-5; 3.68; 1.36 WHIP] vs Scherzer Phils have been nearly as hot as the Mets lately although did get shutout 3-0 by the Marlins (and Not by Alcantara) Thursday afternoon. Better yet, they did so even after loading the bases with no outs in bottom 9 but failed to push across even one run much less all three. But, even with today's loss, they're 7-2 in August and 22-11 since July 1 [Mets = 9-2; 26-10] and currently hold WC slot #2 as the most likely scenario has them as one of five teams (along with ATL, SDP, StL, MIL) fighting for four playoff spots [NLC champ + 3 WCs] They're scoring runs just a hair behind NYM levels and are doing so without Bryce Harper and are pitching much better than earlier in the season. They've also done some house cleaning lately releasing vets Jeurys Familia, Dee Dee Gregorius, and Odubel Herrera. Trade deadline pickups include Noah Syndergaard (who we won't see) and reliever David Robertson (who will likely will). Also Jean Segura is recently off the 60-day IL. LF Kyle Schwarber leads the NL in HRs but also strained a calf in Thursday game; he'll likely miss Friday with Sat & Sun being TBD Saturday [7:10] Aaron Nola [8-8; 3.17; 0.98] vs deGrom Sunday [1:40] Zack Wheeler [11-5; 2.63; 1.03] vs Bassitt
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: Naquin, Canha, and Marte have all played ML CF before so that's maybe the best covered position on the field. You'd have to think that 1B is the best covered position. Any infielder could play it, and almost any outfielder too. In fact, I wouldn't totally panic if Buck were to play a pitcher there for a few batters in an emergency. All you really need to play 1B is the ability to field a grounder and a popup, and to catch a thrown ball, which is in every player's skill set. I was thinking more that CF is the one where you'd have to get to Def-Con Five before I'd start to worry about being exposed out there even though it's the more important/difficult position. Sure, anyone Can play 1st, but in this scenario I'd feel better about the 4th CF than I would with the 3rd 1B
  19. Bobby V used to talk about wanting to be 'three deep' at each spot. Not that you'd necessarily Want to see the 3rd guy there but that you'd want to know ahead of time who was your 'Break Glass in case of Emergency' guy. Naquin, Canha, and Marte have all played ML CF before so that's maybe the best covered position on the field. Off the top of my head 1B: Pete, Ruf, Vogelbomb 2B: McNeal, Luis, Escobar SS: Lindor, Luis, Escobar 3B: Escobar, Luis, McNeal LF: Any of the OFs could fill in as can JMcN RF: Naquin appears to have the best arm with the rest of the fill-ins behind him.
  20. Got some pretty optimistic peeps here. 13/20 is the rate that would most accurately approximate our season's pace to date. One could argue that the deGrom factor should ramp that up a notch or three but the counter would be that the level of competition should knock it back a few pegs.
  21. Under-performing Tigers fire GM Al Avilia after seven seasons. Owner Chris Ilitch throws him all the way under the bus: Chris Ilitch on shedding payroll and trading away players like Justin Verlander and JD Martinez: "I didn't trade those players away. Right? Our general manager did." Tigers starting a lineup today which features four sub-.200 hitters including Javy Baez and his .262 OBA hitting 3rd. Eh, no worries, only five years left on that deal.
  22. And didn't Astacio fall apart almost immediately after hitting some threshold that guaranteed his contract for the following season?
  23. Yup. I was drawing a blank on Astacio
  24. Yanx scoreless streak in Seattle finally ended at 19 - all 13 innings on Tuesday night plus the first 6 on Wednesday. It finally ended in the 7th with, of course, two HRs (one by Judge: 45) to go up 3-1 but then they gave it back in the bottom half of the inning and went on to lose 4-3 (perfect 9th by Paul Seawald, his second of the series). That's now 2-7 in August and 7-13 since the ASB Their lead is shrinking but not really in danger [peaked at 15.5, now down to 10] as the hottest team in the AL East is Baltimore and they started their charge from a whopping 23-1/2 Games back (are now tied for 3rd w/TBR 12.0 GB). And so, even with this NYY swoon, only Toronto (11-7 since ASB) is on the verge of getting into single digits territory. Jays & Yanx have seven head-to-head remaining.
