  1. He was just walked in order to set up the GiDP
  2. Well that was quick.
  3. Pierce Johnson on for the Rockies. One of the few MLB players named for two (almost consecutive) presidents. His nickname ought to be 14-17
  4. And that might pretty much seal the deal for the home team.
  5. A rare game this season that was past the two hour mark by the end of the 6th. The Mets have played seven games this season north of three hours, three of which were extra innings games.
  6. OK kid, NOW!!!! you can celebrate.
  7. Another AB for Alvarez with the possibility of putting us right back in the game, but this one with no margin for error.
  8. Three straight ABs with a chance to get back into the game and they failed on all three.
  9. Lots of major leaguers are shitty sliders. Too bad those practice sliding pits in ST don't exist anymore. Alvarez also only gets credit for a double even though he was briefly safe so it might be a while before he checks that box off his BINGO card.

  11. This suddenly isn't going well.
  12. Syndergaard got knocked around by the Rays last night (6 earned in 6) making his already not so great numbers this season a touch uglier. 10 games/10 starts but less than 5 innings/outing (47.1 IP) and now an ERA of 6.27 and WHIP of 1.35 And the worst part about the WHIP is that it's almost all hits: just 7 walks in those 47 innings but 57 hits ... Ouch!
  13. Like maybe the script could have had Beane and Shapiro talking politics while discussing potential trades for LH relievers. S. Shapiro: It's really getting crazy these days Beane: 'Tell me about it. I was just reading this fan site called the MoFo where some guys were demanding dead Arabs in the streets of NYC' And what delayed opening? The 2002 season started on April 1st
  14. 7:10 local start which means 9:10 in the east. Fortunately it's not a school night so my parents won't make me go to bed early, but I may not make it to the end anyway.
  15. It didn't cover the growing troubles in Iraq either, but maybe because that's not what the movie was about. I don't have a problem with most of the 'problems' often cited in this flick. Sure the A's had other good players, specifically starting pitching. But the focus is that, after coming off a 102 win season, they lost three top FAs to high budget clubs via offers with which they couldn't possibly come close to matching due to baseball's financial structure. So forced to think out of the box and shop at the island for misfit toys, they adopted strategies that were mocked both in-house and by much of established baseball. The result was a season with 103 wins including a record 20 straight. Then, when that club also failed to advance in the post-season, the choruses of 'See, I told ya so' dogged them anyway, at least until the lifeline thrown by Boston's John Henry signals maybe the beginning of acceptance. That PSH playing Art Howe didn't look enough like Art Howe? That a movie which (briefly) opens some 5-6 weeks after 9/11 and takes place mostly 6-12 months later doesn't mention 9/11? That the players focused on were mostly just the old ones going out and the new ones coming in? Ffffft, all non-issues for me. The biggest baseball mistake I can find is that Jeremy Giambi was on the 2001 team rather than being added during the '01/'02 off-season as shown. Other than that, Play Ball!

  17. Heads up by Lindor!
  18. 27th career three bagger for Nimmo I'm betting there's a bunch of guys with longer resumes who didn't have that many.
  19. Not mentioned by Gary in discussing the Phils evening up their series w/the Braves 1-1 was that it was Craig Kimbrel's 400th career save. And maybe partially because it occurred on the road rather than at home, but let's just say that his reaction to the round number milestone was a bit more subdued than that of one J. Franco.
  20. =metirish post_id=126661 time=1685142372 user_id=72] Baseball category on Jeopardy The bobblehead jinx is said to curse this team that honored players like Mike Piazza and Johan Santana I never heard of this curse
  21. I neither neglected nor purposely skipped it. I was merely responding to Monk's post about Correa's slow offensive start. Defense wasn't being discussed until you decided to bring up a counter to an argument that wasn't being made.
  22. Well that was a disappointing half inning. 3 Ks sandwiched around a BB, HBP, and E, and all three Ks were ahead in the count.
  23. Vogelbach is frustrating. He's not hitting for power and he gets caught window shopping for third strikes too often (like a younger Nimmo) including twice last night. On the other hand, even with the two K's on Thursday, he still got on base in his other two PAs (walk and a single) and that pace, along with his season long 37.2% on-base rate, has value in it. It also puts him right up there with Nimmo & McNeal [.373, .372, .370] for tops on the team, a full 29 points ahead of Pete and a full 50 to 70 ticks above every other player on the squad*. Don't be too quick to dismiss such stuff. * not including Michael Perez and Omar Narvaez and their combined 21 ABs
  24. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=126649 time=1685133121 user_id=68] Lindor's an MVP caliber fielder. At shortstop, no less. Correa's none of that.
  25. =TransMonk post_id=126640 time=1685112114 user_id=71] Carlos Correa: 169 AB, 36 H, 6 HR, 14 R, .213/.302/.396/.698 While I think he can improve toward his career numbers, I can't help but think a bullet was dodged here. Mets fans would not abide those numbers on this team as
