  1. Not helping is that Gary starts almost every telecast by saying, 'The Mets could really use a lengthy outing from their starter today' ... and they rarely get one.
  2. And now we'll likely have to bat in the 9th and may regret double-switching Vientos.

  4. Bob Alpacadaca wrote: Vientos hasn't seemed to be a problem at third. That was a good play! Still doesn't always have the smooth movements you'd like to see, but he is less mistake prone than he was earlier so there's certainly progress. ... and, on cue, he's replaced for late inning defense to start the 8th.
  5. Finally, the unclaimed son of Ty Cobb and Joe Adcock makes his NYM debut!
  6. =ashie62 post_id=160747 time=1719695278 user_id=90] This is becoming a ghetto asswhuppin
  7. =metirish post_id=160673 time=1719622145 user_id=72] Game is dragging
  8. 35 Rarity score, 27 of it on one player. BOS/CLE - Luis Tiant (3.0%) BOS/NYM - Kevin Plawecki (0.7%) BOS/Pitched 1 game - Ted Williams (0.5%) MIN/CLE - Muscat Grant (a guess) (0.8%) MIN/NYM - Wally Backman (1%) MIN/Pitched 1 G - Cesar Tovar (he did the one position per inning stunt) (0.8%) Catcher 1 G/CLE - Sandy Alomar Jr (27%) Catcher/NYM - Todd Zeile (0.8%) Catcher 1 G/Pitcher 1 G - Anthony Recker (0.3%)
  9. The Blue Jays stick a 1st inning five-spot on the Yanx and Carlos Rodon tonight in Toronto. Rodon, like Gil and most of the rest of their starting staff, had been very good right up until about the 70-game mark. In Rodon's case he had just one outing with more than 3 ER in his first 14 starts. But now that's changed: - 6/15 vs BOS: 5 earned on 7 hits & 3 BBs - 6/21 vs ATL: 8 runs (7 ER) on 11 hits in just 3.2 IP - tonight: 5 earned on 6 hits in the bottom of the 1st That's 18 earned in two starts plus an inning. He had given up just 26 earned in his first 14 starts combined. And did I say it's 5-0. Well now it's 8-0 as my cousin George just went deep with two aboard. One out in the 2nd.
  10. How 'bout just team offense from May to June MonthGRSR/GBAOBASLGOPSRecordRun Diff MAY281124.0.232.301.3766779 - 19-42 JUNE211356.43.290.362.51587715 - 6+46 Compare those OPS figures to individual batters and the Mets in May hit most similarly to the 2024 versions of Luis Garcia Jr and Shea Langeliers, currently 116th & 117th among the 148 qualified batters (McNeal, btw, is #148). But in June that 877 OPS sticks them just south of Mookie Betts and just above Yordan Alvarez, currently 12th & 13th in all of MLB So in June we've basically had a lineup consisting of nine Mookie Alvarez's Quite a contrast. And proving once again that ynabaylwyl-and-ynagaylwyw
  11. All right, I'm out. So if this game gets blown I'm going to hold one of you folks responsible.
  12. A 10-2 lead. That's pretty safe, right?

  14. We've really got to stop walking guys in front of Judge. ... and I actually typed that just one pitch prior to him smacking the snot out of that pitch.
  15. Nats, who had fallen a game behind us entering today, lost this afternoon (Wed) to the Padres Braves looking like they're going to split a DH w/StL (won the first, down 4-1 in the 9th in the nightcap) [braves lose] Phils beat Detroit this afternoon And in the AL, the Orioles finally got off their losing streak (5) with a 4-2 win over Cleveland
  16. I like watching baseball ... but I'll take this win any way I can get it.
  17. Vientos still doesn't look particularly smooth or graceful in the field ... but he's increasingly turning more tough plays into outs and making fewer E's at the same time.
  18. Take note ESPN (and FOX), it turns out that you CAN interview a manager and still show the game at the same time!! Somebody please pass along the word to the folks in Bristol.
  19. Oh man! I thought this was a Ben/J-Lo update. I live for those y'know.
  20. This game a some similarities to one from June of '18, a Sunday Night game which I was watching in a hospital room. The Yanx were then starting a young, relatively unknown, starter who, while not a rookie, was in the midst of a break-out season that would end up getting him 3rd in CY voting. Going into the game he was 9-1, 2.20 in 13 starts. Mets won that one 2-0 on a 5th inning 2R HR by Todd Frazier as starter Seth Lugo (6 inn), Robert Gsellman (2) and Anthony Swarzak (1) shut out the Yanx on 3 hits. The Yanqui starter that night? Luis Severino.
  21. So it's going to be that kind of night again, eh?
  22. June 26: RHP Drew Smith diagnosed with right elbow sprain; RHP Ty Adcock selected from Triple-A Syracuse MLB.com: As his teammates prepared for batting practice at Citi Field on Wednesday afternoon, Smith hurriedly dressed in street clothes and exited through a back door. He was heading for Manhattan and an MRI on his right forearm, which has been bothering him the past couple of days. A few hours later, he had his diagnosis of a right elbow sprain. The Mets placed Smith on the 15-day injured list and called up Adcock to replace him. Smith had trouble getting loose after he entered in relief of Edwin Díaz on Sunday, when the latter was suspended for a sticky substance violation. Although Smith had all the time he wanted to warm up, he said he regretted rushing the process. It was not until Wednesday, however, that Smith felt enough forearm tightness for the Mets send him for an MRI. Adcock, 27, held a 3.12 ERA over eight appearances at Syracuse.
  23. Torres isn't really their cleanup hitter, just filling that role now with no Stanton and no Rizzo. But his main crime is that he's not hitting. Was terrific as a 21 & 22 y/o but he wasn't good enough defensively to stick at SS and his hitting has been only sporadically good since then to the point where he's currently in the midst of the worst season of his career [.215/.294/.333] For a guy who once slugged 38 HRs (2019) and is coming seasons of 24 & 25, that he's now on pace for 14 will get you on the bad side of fans even before you get to the whole lack of hustle stuff. A FA this winter and still only 27 y/o, but I wouldn't expect a long term deal although Javy Baez, his closest thru age 26 comp, got one ... so yaneverknow. btw, Javy Baez since leaving the Mets: .223/.264/.344 over 333 games and 1,333 PAs THAT is a lot of out making (and a lot of 3s!) and he's steadily gotten worse each year [currently .183/.209/.247 * also, Gleyber is apparently dealing with 'a sore groin' although the YES booth to him to task for it also.
