  1. Talk about closers having a bad night (this was from Monday in Arizona). After the Nats had leads of 6-0 and 8-2, closer Kyle Finnegan came on in bottom 9th to close out a seemingly simple 8-4 lead What followed instead was: TRIPLE - SINGLE - HR - Line-out (deep RF) - SINGLE - HR The DBacks win pct went from under 2% to start the inning to 4%, 9%, 20%, 11%, 21%, 100%
  2. Somehow the Yanx/Phils game, which started a half hour prior to ours, is just now in the bottom of the 7th

I'd like to see the science behind whatever the alleged effect of up/downs (which are really down/ups) are. So would I. But I also couldn't resist getting an 'up/down' reference in.
  4. NYM pitchers hold the Twins, the 7th highest scoring team in MLB, to two runs in 18 innings.
  5. I'd feel a lot better about this inning if Diaz wasn't starting it following nine high-leverage pitches and an up/down.
  6. Stanek is listed at 6' 4" but he looks huger than that.
  7. Edgy MD wrote: My guess is that he gets one batter in the eighth. You were off by one.
  8. Seven scoreless with right about six inning's worth of pitches. Send him out for the 8th!
  9. I remember Nimmo's name being mentioned in Jay Bruce rumors but I don't recall it being considered done. Dilson Herrera, plus a throw-in never to make the majors, was the ultimate price for Bruce. Dilson ended his ML career by getting 6 plate appearances with Baltimore in 2020 and wound up a sub-.200 hitter. He's played in foreign and independent leagues ever since including this year in Mexico and is Still only 30 y/o!
  10. Gerritt Cole was scratched from tonight's start in Philly due to "general body fatigue", a medical condition which may be a euphemism for 'getting his ass kicked by the Mets twice during a short span'. Either answer is acceptable; I'm leaning towards choice 'B' myself. Will Warren makes his ML debut for the Yanx facing Aaron Nola. 1 - 1 after 1
  11. Edgy MD wrote: There would be hordes outside of LeMahieu's house if there weren't so many other hitters also playing poorly, but getting him out of the lineup has to be priority one. I just discovered that there are still two more years on LeMahieu's contract after this season!! Signed by the Yanx to a two year deal prior to the 2019 season, he arguably had the two best seasons of his career (certainly two of the top three) with OPS+ of 136 & 178 while finishing 4th & 3rd in the AL MVP race. High off that euphoria, the Yanx rewarded a six-year contract to the then 32 y/o at $15mil/per. Three much more average-ish seasons followed [OPS+ of 97, 110, 96] which led to this season's injury delayed disaster of 483/39 OPS/OPS+ Technically this year is listed as LeMahieu's age 35 season but with an early July birthday he'll spend just about half the season as a 36 y/o so his contract runs through the 2026 season when he'll turn 38 in mid-year. Yet another cautionary tale of giving lengthy deals to 30+ y/o players. I mean it's possible he can still turn things around but, shyeeeet, he's currently Slugging .217 [24 for 138 with 20 singles].
  12. The odd part is that it's done twice, once towards the dugout and then the other seemingly towards the OF or bleachers.

  14. This is Diekman's 13th season in MLB. If he hooks on with another team this season it will make this the 6th of those 13 years where he changed teams mid-season. Three of the seven years he spent with only one team were the first three of his career (w/Philly) and one was the short 2020 season. So he's essentially packed up and moved mid-season in six of the last nine years. Not that I'm going to hold a telethon for him or anything, but baseball can be a tough business sometimes.
  15. They didn't exactly knock the cover off the ball that inning (except for Pete) but they made consistent contact and kept the line moving.
  16. Aaron Judge even hits HRs off Zack Wheeler (38). So does Jazz Chisholm (playing 3B for now). Yanx lead Phils 3-1 at the Bank Braves will be in Milwaukee to start the week Padres face the Dodgers starting tomorrow Cardinals hosting Texas
  17. =kcmets post_id=164528 time=1722281993 user_id=53] Austin Martin ® LF
  18. Has Tommy Pham been dealt at every trade deadline in the last decade or does it just seem that way?
  19. Even taking that into consideration, it was a pathetic weekend of bat swinging. - Game 1: a Lindor 2R HR and a gift run off a pop fly in the 10th are the only two run-producing hits - Game 2: eight runs scored on 3 ABs and a bases loaded walk - Game 3: shut out on three hits - Game 4 - a meaningless late 2R HR So there were six run-scoring hits in four games (even counting the over-run pop up) in four games, plus the usual 4/24 w/RiSP Those numbers would have to improve dramatically before one can even call them sub-par. The one-inning barrage in Game 2 and the lucky break in Game 1 made it seem like it was great series in process, but it never really was.
  20. Elsewhere today: - Tampa scored twice in the 8th to beat Cincy 2-1 - Orioles finally beat the Padres after two straight losses - Phils lost to Cleveland, making it two of three for the Guardians in a matchup of 1st place teams - Cards beat Nats Yanx & Sawx are the Sunday Night Game ... no, really, they are!!! And in that back and forth Saturday night game, the Yanx tied it up with 2 outs/2-strikes in the 9th of Kenley Jansen. Sox were blanked in bottom 9 and then again in bottom 10th after NYY scored three in top 10 Very depressing ending.
  21. It seems like fun early on but this series sucked. Mets got blown out twice, shut out once (and barely avoided a second one), went 22 innings without scoring at all, and basically got lucky once or they'd be on the wrong end of a 1-3 set. And this against a Braves team that was reeling and missing half their lineup. Just 13 runs scored in a four game series, seven of them in one inning. Mets came to bat 30 times, got blanked in 25 of them. No Max Fried, no Spencer Strider.
  22. TB 3B Isaac Paredes (2024 All Star, back of ballot MVP votes in '23) to the Cubs in exchange for ... I dunno, other people most likely. Tampa Bay, four games out of the final WC slot, continues to sell off because, y'know, they're Tampa Bay.
  23. Well that was clutch! First runs scored in I think it's 22 innings ... so there's that.
