  1. Open Book ... Insert Game!!!!
  2. ]....did he really? Yeah, that was the Hanley Ramirez K Now Girardi is pinch-running for the pinch-runner?!?!??
  3. Thank you Joe Girardi (for leaving the bunt on w/2 strikes)
  4. Home Plate ump doing us no favors tonight: re Cliff & Bradford
  5. Cap?
  6. Bell relieving Ring would be the best thing since League relieved Bush in several games in Toronto last year.
  7. As per Adam Rubin's blog: Royce Ring up, Mike Pelfrey down Funny, I would have thought would have to go to Bell first before you get a Ring ... but I guess not this time.
  8. None of this is my research (so I'm not going to vouch for its total accuracy) but it is gleaned from reputable sources so I believe it to be legit. Papi Ortiz 2006 ABs in possible Walk-off situations (9th inning or later tying or winning run) DateNeed to WinResultPitcher 6/11HRHROtsuka6/242BHRGordon6/26HR4-1Cormier6/261BIBBGordon6/291B1BCondrey7/291BIBBF.Rodriguez7/291B1BRomero7/31HRHRCarmona That's 8 Walk-off opportunities where there were 2 Int Walks and 5 of the other 6 were won by hits, 3 of those by HRs, including 2 that could only have been won by HRs. The last one on the list (Sunday night) was a 3R HR w/1 out in the 9th and a 2-run deficit. And the "streak" goes back further. Since the end of the 2004 regular season, Ortiz has come to the plate in a walk-off situations 19 times. - He's reached base 16 times. - In those 16 he's 11-for-14 (.786), with 7 HR and 20 RBI. In 2005 and 2006, he is 8-for-9, with 5 HR and 15 RBI He also now has 11 Walk-off HRs in his career, trailing only a pack of guys at 12, but check out the career HRs & ABs in comparison: 12 Walks-offs: Jimmie Foxx; ABs = 8,134; HRs = 458 Mickey Mantle; 8,102; 536 Stan Musial; 10,972; 475 F. Robinson; 10,006; 586 Babe Ruth; 8,398; 714 11 Walk-offs: Tony Perez; 9,778; 379 David Ortiz; 3,508; 215 10 Walk-offs: Dick Allen; 6,332; 351 Harold Baines; 9,908; 438 Reggie Jackson; 9,864; 563 Mike Schmidt; 8,352; 548 Only Dick Allen has less than twice the number of ABs, and only he and Tony Perez have fewer than twice the number of HRs. THAT is one helluva roll folks!
  9. I don't want to go making excuses for Milledge - but he clearly didn't see that ball coming at him. I missed the dugout "incident".
  10. Pelfrey - 1.1 Beltran - 2.2 Reyes - 1.5 Heilman - 0.5 Bradford - 0.5 LoDuca - 0.7 Delgado - 0.4
  11. Nady's defense was erratic, maybe even below average, but it was hardly horrible.
  12. - I guess delaying when they pay the $3mil is just to help the NYM cash flow a bit. - And then the options were set-up so as to detail a way to get Glavine that $3mil back (either in the contract or via the buyout) - Then, by putting the option levels towards the extremes, neither side gets locked into anything they don't want, and they have enough trust in each other enough to where they'll either work something out or agree to part company on good terms.
  13. The story on the Glavine option is a little hazy: - he agreed to reduce this year's contract by $3mil - then he agreed to an option for next year with an extra $3mil either in the contract or in the buyout if it's not picked up The option itself has has both a club option at a particular level w/incentives and a player option at a different level. But the club option seemed very high (even considering the put-back $3mil) to the point where the team has to be tempted to NOT pick it up and, by the same token, the player option was quite low meaning Glvaine might reject it and hunt for a better deal elsewhere. What's likely to happen (this is Adam Rubin's take) is that, given the relationship between Glavine & the Wilpons, they'll reach an agreement somewhere between the two extremes and scrap the details of the option all together. This is all assuming that Glavine doesn't either: - keep sliding into the toilet to the point where Mr. 'Full Autonomy' decides he doesn't want him back - decide he wants to get back to Atlanta. Seems like a lot of trouble to me; going through all that trouble of concocting the options just to pay him the $3mil after the season instead of during it and then wind up ignoring the parameters that you just worked out.
  14. Folks can blog all they want - I'm not looking to stop them. I dont' usually read much of that kind of stuff but was mainly curious if the guy knew what he was talking about or is making it up as he goes along. Not sure, in this case, whether the media got it from the bloggers or the bloggers from the media.
  15. That's what Beane has done with virtually every FA he's had over the years: Giambi, Damon, Isringhausen, etc. He did deal the two pitchers' Mulder & Hudson but that was a full season before they went FA
  16. Does that song mean we have to do this IGT with a serious overdub? Do you remember Rick Astley? He had a great big hit , it was ghastly. He said I'm never gonna give you up or let you down Well I'm here to tell ya that Dick's a clown. Though he was just a boy when he made that vow I'd bet it all that he knows by now All Men, all men are liars ... -- Nick Lowe
  17. I guess what I meant was, is he a guy with some sort of actual connections/credentials or just a Fanboi with a website regurgitating already existing news? Considering that every single deal I saw was attributed to some real life news service except for the one that turned out to be not true which cited no source at all ... leads me to believe that it's the latter rather than the former and that his brief foray into journalism got him snagged.
  18. Seeing as how it's 3 hours past the deadline, and Omar's been on the radio without mentioning it I'd say it was a false report to begin with. All trades have to be into MLB offices by 4 - so they'd have to have submitted the deal but are somehow sitting on it since. Who is 'MetsBlog' anyway? In the other deals he always cited ESPN is reporting that ..., or according to FoxSports, etc. Except for the Linebrink one where he simply said: 'The Mets will trade ...' without any other attribution. Sounds like a member of IFPSA !
  19. I'm assuming it's; - lose Sanchez & Nady - Gain Milledge & Robo I figure Perez for the minors for now. Pelfrey's starting Tuesday - he might be demoted after that, possibly in favor of a reliever, probably Bell.
  20. Yanx deal Shawn Chacon to Pirates for Craig Wilson Jeez, I wouldn't have minded Wilson here for a bench spot -- and why the hell would anyone trade anything for Chacon? He's been awful all year. This is as bad as Cincy giving up TWO players (minor leaguers) for Tony Womack at the beginning of the season. They released Womack within weeks.
  21. Per WFAN: Mets acquire reliever Roberto Hernandez & LHP Oliver Perez for OFer Xavier Nady
  22. ]Personally, I think he's pretty darn valuable, but I'm easily impressed by "upside". Precisely, he's pretty darn **POTENTIALLY** valuable - and the Pyroots opted for the "sureness" of X. And I'm not saying I hate the move, only that each side had it's reasons for doing it. Question of the day: Was this move prompted solely by the Duaner crack-up or was something along these lines going to happen anyway? Omar had made no secret about upgrading the pen and Robo had been part of those rumors.
  23. I dunno, look at this from Pittsburgh's pov: - they dealt a 41 y/o reliever w/little future for them plus a hopeful maybe for a starting OFer they can control for 4 years.
  24. I suspect they consider Perez more of a future project than a right-now fix.
