  1. btw, NYDN reporter Adam Rubin was on the SNY program today 'Daily News Live' saying that the Mets, rather than seeing CH Park as the favorite for the 5th starter position, view him as nothing more than an insurance policy and that the contract - initially reported at $3mil - guarantees him no more than 100-200K if he's cut during ST. IOW, they're not nearly as committed to him as many of us first suspected.
  2. Jose Reyes = #2
  3. Torn rotator cuff
  4. The sequence should show him morphing into a Padre
  5. HI-HO AG!!!!
  6. Cadmium is a soft, bluish-white metal and is easily cut with a knife. It is similar in many respects to zinc. Interestingly, a characteristic cadmium "scream" is heard on bending a cadmium bar. Cadmium and its compounds are highly toxic. Silver solder, which contains cadmium, should be handled with care.
  7. Max Lanier - 91 Father of former ML infielder and later manager Hal, Max was one of the earlier challengers of MLB's reserve clause. Also Eddie "The King" Feigner (OK, so this isn't really 'baseball') From today's NYDN: Feigner was the hard-throwing softball showman who barnstormed for more than 50 years with "The King and His Court" four-man team, died yesterday. He was 81. With a fastball once clocked at 104 mph, The King threw 930 no-hitters and 238 perfect games and struck out 141,517 batters while playing more than 10,000 games. In a nationally televised exhibition against major leaguers at Dodger Stadium in 1964, he struck out Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Maury Wills, Harmon Killebrew, Roberto Clemente and Brooks Robinson in order.
  8. I bet Newsday's Neil Best isn't listening
  9. It's kinda tough to judge Cashman since the NYY (read: Steinbrenner)notion of a GM differed from most others during much of his tenure. George believed in "creative tension" and often had his 'Tampa office' making moves that were sometimes directly opposed to what Cashman and Stick Michael were trying to do in NYC. So while some of the moves made during his time can be directly attributed to him, other were made despite his say-so and even some made completely without his knowledge. Supposedly that all changed (and, by all appearances, it has) after he inked his latest contract two seasons ago now.
  10. Hank Bauer - 84
  11. Another view from Fox Sports' Dayn Perry
  12. Pedro Feliciano goes 3 innings for the win as Puerto Rico comes from behind for a 10-inning win vs Mexico.
  13. This is going to be one long-ass thread!
  14. 15 year pitcher/121 game winner Steve Barber - 67. Played with 7 teams, including briefly w/the Seattle Pilots and therefore was one of the characters in 'Ball Four'
  15. Insta-international feedback!!
  16. ]Death of the Complete Game ... Complete Death of the Game Thus running the gamut from Ira's view of the game to that of Steve J. Rogers
  17. Ghana play some ball More from the Africa trip
  18. Houston is one.
  19. Mets sign their coaches to multi-year deals Rick Peterson gets a three year contract, while Guy Conti (bullpen), Rick Downs (hitting), and Jerry Manual (bench) re-up for two years each. Base coaches HoJo & Sandy Alomar will work on one-year deals.
  20. ]His neck is banjaxed so he's to have surgery... I just hate it when things get all banjaxed!
  21. ]This is, quite frankly, crap. It's not duplicitous to raise a relevant point under consideration while not debating an already-answered question. How is MLB's (potential) contract with an exclusive provider something to be subject to gov't regulations while the NFL's identical arrangement is "an already answered question"? Simply because the one deal has been ignored up to now hardly means it's been legally sanctioned or that it should continued to be ignored.
  22. In 1966 the Mets played a double-header on July 4th against the Phillies. It was a Monday, definitely a Monday.
  23. Former StL & SF catcher Mike Matheny won't be signing with anyone as he retired due to lingering problems associated with concussions. Not sure that I've ever heard of that before with a baseball player (plenty in football & hockey). It probably has happened before - particularly in the pre-helmet days - but was never called that as, until recently, concussions were left either undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.
  24. Not to stop you from hating Harazin, but the not wanting the game goes back into the Cashen era. I'm sure there'll be one in the new crib but it never bothered me much that it hasn't spun this way in a while.
