  1. OoTS Today: Braves @ Marlins playing simultaneous with our game: currently 1-1 in the 2nd Diamondbacks @ Brewers - 7:10 EDT White Sox @ Padres - 8:40 EDT
  2. Sometimes I think these long-delayed sequels come down to hitting a window where several of the principles simultaneously find themselves devoid of the kind of offers the way they used to get until they finally break and say, 'All right, I'll do it ... just give me the check!'

  4. Last 20 games (including today's): Mets: 16 - 4 PHI: 13 - 7 MIL: 12 - 8 SDP: 12 - 8 ATL: 10 - 10 I know it gets frustrating when we see the other contenders win and we lament winning our game but not gaining any ground, or gaining ground on just some of them. But think about how fans of those teams must feel: 'Man, we're playing really well but we can't shake those fuckin' Mets cuz they win every night!'
  5. Well, we hit ... A LOT! Got very good starting pitching But we did leave a lot of meat on the bone as CF said - we hit into multiple GiDPs - the Phils played great defense and saved multiple runs - the Phils scored almost all their runs with two outs And yet we won going away, so, Nice win. The only caveat is that we had a nice win in the first game of the series in CBP and wound up losing the series. Need to show up at least as sharp tomorrow.
  6. =Gwreck post_id=171014 time=1726796688 user_id=56] Diaz is up and I disapprove of this move.
  7. Acuna going on contact (or not) was likely decided ahead of time. I didn't mind him going so much as I did maybe ending his season just as it was beginning. Nice inning by Stanek
  8. As soon as Acura's hit cleared Stott's head I'm yelling 'Send Him, Send Him' Then I remembered was Alvarez running but then I saw them having trouble picking it up at the wall and started yelling 'Send Him, Send Him!' What wasn't pretty was Acura's head-first slide into home.
  9. I think that's the first leadoff hitter on for the Phils. If the announcers were actually announcing the game they're being paid to announce they might have mentioned it.
  10. I've got no problem telling Peterson from Megill or from anyone else. Keeping the LHP Youngs apart on the other hand ...
  11. If it weren't for some really good Philly IF defense, several of them turned into DPs, the Mets would have a dozen or more thru half a game.
  12. So as if Victor Robles's failed steal of home to end the game two nights ago wasn't bad enough, Wednesday's M's/Yanx game went to the 10th with the Yanx scoring once in the top half. Julio Rodríguez was the free runner in bottom 10 and, following a single, he was on 3rd with no outs as the tying run. A swinging strike sent a bat helicoptering towards him so he ducked into foul territory. Then he bizarrely kept moving towards the dugout as if it were a foul ball and not a clean strike at which point the Yanx easily picked him off for a K/DP. The game ended on the next play. M's managed to salvage the final game of the series this afternoon but they brought a whole lotta stupid to the first two games.
  13. We've got Solo, 2R, and now 3R covered on the bingo card. Like to see them complete the category.
  14. Too many two-outs runs allowed. Meanwhile, JDM finds a way to get on base.
  15. Braves wind up edging the Reds 15-3 this afternoon. SDP & ARZ have the day off. The coming weekend sees the Snakes going to Milwaukee while the Braves head for Miami and the Padres host ... sigh, the White Sox.
  16. It's not even the totality of the career that I'm talking about but the suddenness and scope of the fall. There are pitchers who have their walk rates increase, then there's whatever happened to Steve Blass ... and there's a gulf in between. Only Rick Ankiel comes to my mind as even a partial comparison. His crash was maybe more sudden, but he didn't have anywhere near seven full seasons as a regular ML starter before his career trajectory went off the rails. Fortunately for him he had speed and a bat to fall back on.
  17. Yeah but only one more run. And it took the other team 13 innings to do it. So that's sort of a win, isn't it?
  18. Not only did I not see the original, but I also have no idea what it was all about. And I'm not really asking for an explanation here cuz I have no intention of seeing this one either. But what I find fascinating is that there were 36 years (1988 - 2024) between the original and this currently running sequel! That seems very odd to me. Hollywood originality marches on!
  19. Ohtani: 48 HRs, 49 SBs

  21. So, nine (or more) runs in a game, all in one inning. I mean it's not a fact yet, but it's not something that could have happened all that often. I'm sure Gary will be filled in by someone. And if that doesn't happen Greg will know off the top of his head.
  22. Kimbrel's walks are up but not wildly [5.3 vs 3.8 career]. Being 36 with 15 seasons under his belt is the more likely culprit. Blass, as a 30 y/o, finished 2nd in the 1972 CY voting (to Steve 27-10, 1.97 ERA Carlton). Up to that point his career walk rate was 3.0. In '73 the walk rate shot up to 8.5, the ERA from 2.49 to nearly 10.00, and his wins fell from 19 to 3. He pitched once in '74, walking 7 in 5 innings, and his career was over. That's quite a different animal.
  23. The Orioles, a 101 win team last season, have been going sideways with Kimbrel. 27 - 34 over their last 61, they're 4.0 games behind the Yanx and are a not-yet-secure 1.5, 4.0, and 5.5 games ahead of not being a WC team (KCR, MIN, DET)
