  1. Guar[CROSSOUT]Ind[/CROSSOUT]dians scored thrice before their first out, five times in the 1st inning, and cruised (or Cruzed if you hablo Espanol) to a 7-0 white-washing of the hottest team in the AL coming down the stretch.
  2. Royals lead 5-4 heading to bottom 6 Yanx should either have a lot more runs or fewer depending on how you want to look at it. . - in the 1st they had 2nd & 3rd w/no outs and didn't score. - they later loaded the sacks w/no outs and scored twice but that whole inning was gift-wrapped: BB,1B, BB, BB, PO, GO (force at home), BB, 3rd out Cole: 5 IP, 4 R (3 ER), 7 hits

  4. And so it's AT LEAST a four run lead in bottom 9th facing 6-7-8 in the Philly lineup.
  5. =Centerfield post_id=174213 time=1728168463 user_id=65] He's going with Maton. I ask you. If you don't bring in the lefty to face Schwarber and Harper, why even carry him?

  7. Six post-Wheeler ABs, six successful ABs. Funny how that happens sometimes.
  8. Pete picked the right situation to make his first decent contact of the game.

  10. Oh I know perfectly well Why they do it. I just refuse to participate.
  11. I tend to avoid sequels almost entirely. If I didn't like the original then I'm not going to want to see the story continued. And if I did like the original I'm afraid that a bad or simply lesser version set the original back a peg or two. There's got to be some reason to make a sequel other than: 'We made a boat-load of cash on the first one so now we're back for a second boat'
  12. Don't look now, but the ChiSox have won three straight (swept the Angels) and therefore are still 'stuck' on 120 wins (39 - 120). They head to red-hot Detroit* for the final weekend. The Tigers won earlier today and, by my reading anyway, have clinched at least a tie for a WC spot (especially with the Twins currently getting their butts kicked by the Marlins) although I haven't checked out all the tie-breakers. 123 losses, which I think someone here pegged as the ultimate goal to erase the Mets ownership of ineptness for a modern season, is now the worst the ChiSox can do. * The Tigers, 78-84 last year, and the Royals, 56-106 in '23, look to join Baltimore as the three AL WC teams. The O's are losing big to the Yanx tonight which will settle the ALE unless something dramatic happens in the next few innings.
  13. Yeah. One can argue that factoring in home field advantage (typically around 53% in baseball) should play a role. Taking the location into account ups the home team's odds of a sweep from 12.5% to 14.9% [.53 x .53 x .53 = .148877] and it drops their odds a being swept down to around 10.4% [.47 x .47 x .47 = 10.3823] but you're really just playing along the margins.
  14. =Centerfield post_id=171901 time=1727388038 user_id=65] Odds are a harder to figure out since the chances of any one result aren't exactly 50/50.
  15. =Centerfield post_id=171893 time=1727384277 user_id=65] If I'm right, and i may well not be, i think there are 64 different outcomes, but 14 different net outcomes. And the outcomes in the middle are far more likely to occur the the ones toward the ends.
  16. Arizona up on SFG 4-1 in the 3rd, still batting. Zach Gallen and Mason Black (whoever he is) on the mound. Mason just pulled.
  17. 9 - 7 Orioles is our final.
  18. 9-7 Baltimore as Aaron Judge hits his 57th w/two men on. One out, bases empty, Orioles just changed pitchers.
  19. Yanx have clinched a playoff spot but not yet the division. Baltimore beat them Tuesday night and are up big again tonight (9 - 3 bottom 9th). Now the O's have already clinched a WC slot and would have to run the table while having the Yanx lose out in order to tie on record and take the division away via h-t-h record, but the thought is fun to contemplate.
  20. Also, just to reiterate, the games are off for Wednesday & Thursday but Friday is the day when Helene is supposed to be directly over Georgia! So that's five games for the Braves in three days unless this storm hangs a quick left as it rolls north along I-75
  21. If I were one of the teams and was given the choice between accepting the lower seed or playing the games and taking my chances I'd opt not to play. The difference between being a 5-seed or a 6 is barely a difference if it even is one at all. And to go further, with Milwaukee being the higher seed (#3) to the loser of the Dodgers/Padres race (#4) I'd rather be the #6 and play the Brewers anyway. And if you survive the first round is there really some great advantage to facing the Phils vs the NL West winner?
  22. =ashie62 post_id=171795 time=1727298708 user_id=90] Another location? Probably not
  23. Not that JD Martinez is all that good against Sale: .220/.267/.488 (9/41 - although 2 2Bs & 3 HRs among those 9 hits) but the kid is not likely to have seen much like Sale during his minor league journey so you'd really be throwing him into the deep end of the pool without swimming lessons.
  24. Joel Sherman, NY Post: For reasons of business, logistics and perhaps gamesmanship, the Braves did not want to shift start times, days or locations for their series against the Mets despite forecasts that make it iffy to play Wednesday night and even less likely to play a three-game series finale Thursday night. MLB could have overridden any desire of either team and forced different logistics for the games and did not. Wednesday's scheduled 7:20 p.m. ET game is still set to be played, as of early afternoon, though it is pouring in the area.[/i] He also goes more into the scenarios that led up to this point -- as you may remember that this was supposed to be a two game series but for a rain make up game from a series in April -- and the list of what may happen from here. https://nypost.com/2024/09/25/sports/how-braves-decision-for-mets-series-set-up-nightmare-hurricane-helene-scenario/https://nypost.com/2024/09/25/sports/how-braves-decision-for-mets-series-set-up-nightmare-hurricane-helene-scenario/
