  1. Since late August: * In games against the often porous Philly pitching staff, the Mets scored: 2, 2, 2, 10, 2, 3 & 6 runs -- and in the games they scored 10 & 6 they gave up 11 & 10 And in those same games they held the hard-hitting Phils to 3 runs or less 3 times including twice in extra innings - and lost all three. * Then against the worst hitting in the NL Nationals, the pitching gave up: 12, 9, 4, 13, 10 & 9 runs -- blowing 4-run or more leads 4 times.
  2. Exactly what shut-down relievers are we hoping to conjure up here? Like it or not, this is the bullpen we're dealing with. So unless we want Heilman & Wagner to cover the 5th thru 9th innings ...
  3. ="Yancy Street Gang"]It's strange how both NL series play all five games (barring rainouts) on the same days. NL is, AL is not - not only in the days they're playing but also that there will be an extra day off in the one series compared to the other. Also new is that the best overall record will get their choice of which schedule they want. The best NL team will have that choice next year as they'll flop the sked. ]What happens when games run long and overlap? Would the later game start on TNT, like we've seen in the past with ESPN and ESPN2? I'm sure that's the plan.
  4. Glavine on the radio NOW!!!! for his regular weekly stint. - couldn't get the feel/control of the change-up all night - the curveball that Kearns hit surprised him because he throws so few that batters rarely even swing at it much less hit it a mile
  5. Only 1 late-night start (thursday) and since that will most likely be on a day when we're home (assuming the worst doesn't happen yyybbb) that'll wind up being an Anaheim, Arizona, or SD home game. I can see us, however, getting assigned several mid-day games as the TV gurus will want to grab as many Yanx & Cubs games for prime time as possible.
  6. Ump in Bradley case suspended for remainder of season
  7. And it's not like the decision is going to be made any easier by the top candidates limping towards the finish line. Stats for September: PlayerABHitsBAOBASLGHRsRuns>RBIHolliday8129.358.432.852122426Rollins11131.279.316.53261715Wright8830.341.422.63661618Fielder8029.363.474.800112222
  8. Reyes - 3.0 Alou - 3.5 Green - 0.7 Castillo - 0.7 Gotay - 0.7 Muniz - 0.4
  9. BoSox beat Oakland - lead East by 3 Yanx jump out to a 5-0 lead ... then lose 7-6 in 10 on a HR by ex-NYY farmhand Dioneer Navarro Cleveland wins in 12 at Seattle Angles lose to Texas Tigers stay alive one more day Indians - 63 losses, 6 to play BoSox - 64 losses - 5 to play Angels - 66 losses - 4 to play Yanx - 67 losses, 5 to play, tragic number = 3 for division Tiggers - tragic number = 1 for WC
  10. "Let's Go Mets! Suck as little as possible! " So how long could one get away with THAT banner before it gets confiscated?
  11. Central: Cubs lose to Marlins Brewers win behind Prince's 2 HRs (youngest ever to 50, also first father/son combo) Chicago leads by 2 games West: Snakes lose to Pitt SD tallies 4 in the 9th to beat the Giants, Rox win in LA for their 9th straight Padres 2 games out -- Rockies 3 out WC: Padres back into the lead Philly 1 out Rockies 1 out Braves 3 out * I'm Buddy!
  12. West coast games now in progress: * Rockies, going for their 9th straight and a share of the WC lead, jump on Dodgers early, lead 2-0 after 3 * Giants jump on Sandy Eggo, lead 4-0 in the 3rd * Cleveland, w/nothing left to gain except best record overall, leads Seattle 3-0 after 3 * And the Yanx are headed to extras
  13. A 3 hour 40 minute game ... and it's STILL quicker than the still in progress Yanqui game.
  14. Fun inning there fore a while -- but unfortunately it's too late in the year for moral victories and nothing can cover up the recent pitching deficiencies.
  15. Running for Alou - absolutely! But Delgado can make him trot home anyway.
  16. ="Edgy DC"]Have we ever solved Cordero? How do you solve a problem like Cordero? How do you get on base and bring them home? How do you solve a problem like Cordero? You dink a hit, you take your walks, and BAM
  17. * Boston wins - keeps their lead at no worse than 2 games * Yanx/TB tied at 6 heading for the 9th
  18. Reyes proves that it's possible to have a 2 HR day ... and STILL have a shitty game.
  19. It just wouldn't be a Nationals game without double-digit runs.
  20. * Snakes lose to Pitt (we're not the only chumps around here) keeping the NLWest and the whole best record thing as tight as possible
  21. Raphael Soriano in in the 9th to face the bottom of the Phils lineup with a 4 run lead.
  22. Nationals go with Colome for the 8th If he fails they'll pick the next pitcher from Column B
  23. Centerfield wrote: I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but COME ON CHIPPER JONES! And he homers ... 10-6 Bravz
  24. This has just been a Murphy's Law kind of month.
