  1. Figeroa - 2.0 Schoeneweis - 0.5 Pagan - 0.4 Clark - 0.4 Delgado - 0.4 Easley - 0.4 Casanova - 0.4 Beltran - 0.5
  2. Alou could make a difference; Castro not so much. The infield in was one thing - although one can make an argument for trying to keep it at a two-run game at that point - but Reyes looked to have plenty of time to turn two but chose instead to go home. He didn't need to take just the one out simply because he was shaded that way. But basically we didn't hit, didn't pitch, didn't play 'D', and weren't all that smart either. The screamers are going to be looking for scapegoats but this was a group effort. Turn the page.
  3. Both our RBIs this series are on infield groundouts.
  4. Carlos I walks, be a nice time for Carlos II to break out.
  5. Hank White hits into a GiDP by rolling one to Joe King
  6. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Anyone know why the Mets are playing two games at Wrigley this year, and the Cubs are playing four at Shea? No ]Is there going to be a similar shift with another Central Division club? Or is this just one of those inexplicable quirks that comes with the wacky schedule? Well, it'll have to work out to 81/81 somehow so there's got to be a different imbalance somewhere. ]Or is the pope somehow at fault? Don't be silly, it's Heilman's fault.
  7. Figuring that today is the old DGANG* it's probable that Willie is going to switch up some spots anyway, so he wants to give Endy some ABs and it's either against the righty Zambrano or against the lefty Lilly today. * Day Game After Night Game
  8. Usually it's the ESPN feed that's blacked out in the home market except for the Sunday Night games when the 'Worldwide Leader' has a national exclusive on that time-slot. No idea why the NYC market got both last night. ]And why is it necessary for me to see Mel Kiper's NFL draft predictions scrolling across the screen for the entire game? Because they're ESPN, that's why. They only devote a thousand hours or so of programming to pre-analyzing(almost always incorrectly) the draft so they're afraid you might have missed their insight.
  9. Maine - 2.8 Chavez - 1.0 Sanchez - 1.0 Reyes - 0.4 Delgado - 0.4 Church - 0.4 Castillo - 0.5
  10. BA: Mets 1B Mike Carp (.556/.586/.889) is doing his best to resuscitate his prospect status and had as good a week as any minor leaguer, with a 15-for-27 week that included two homers at Double-A Binghamton. Most encouraging, he's off to an 8-for-23 start against lefthanded pitchers with three homers after posting a .418 OPS against LHPs last year. He's going to have to keep that up (or a reasonable facsimile) to avoid being a platoon player in the future, however.
  11. batmagadanleadoff wrote: ... wasn't Benitez always one of baseball's best relievers during his years as a Met? Maybe I'm misremembering, but there were surely better relief pitchers around, but not too many. Compare AB to his contemporary closers in IP, Saves, Save Pct, ERA, BAA, WHiP, K/9, etc. and "one of the better ones" is a very accurate assessment. His detractors all then fell back to the "worst possible moment" argument but; 1) for late inning guys there rarely is a good time to have a bad game 2) a realistic reading of his blown games show his failures to be widely distributed among the opponent and time of year and that (contrary to popular belief) the only discernable pattern was that there was no discernable pattern.
  12. FWIW, Girardi and Cashman have both been on record as saying that the long-term plan has always been to move Chamberlain to the rotation. Now whether they actually believe that or were just saying what their boss wanted to hear is up for debate I suppose. The difference here is that Hank-enstein is suddenly demanding he moved NOW!!!! Gonna be fun to see how this all works out. P.S. I find it funny that someone went looking for, and then found, a 5 month old thread that they revived just to post this story.
  13. - First Thomas has to clear waivers - which he almost certainly will do since no one will want to pick up the existing contract. - When he clears, Toronto will owe him for this year (plus any buyout) but get out from under next year's option which had an automatic kick-in at a certain AB level but his new team is free to strike a brand new deal w/him. Oakland has Jack Cust (as a similar player), Seattle boasts Richie Sexson I'd be shocked if the Yanx touch him He turns 40 in a few weeks and hasn't played 1B since 2004, and regularly since years earlier then that.
  14. The little bit of talk radio I listened to this weekend was filled with stories from callers about fights, harrassment, over-zealous security, and just general unpleasentness during this Met-Philly series. Both sides, of course, blamed each other for inciting most of the trouble although there seemed to be a general agreement that things were far worse than anything you'd consider "normal". Sounds like some are taking this newly amped up rivalry a bit too seriously.
  15. Isn't Kai (with that same spelling) the name of Keith Hernandez's wife? That could make for some good jokes in a few years.
  16. That Smith is the only one who can easily and safely be stored in the minors he's the logical one to be sent down if Wise is to be recalled in the near future. Fair? Perhaps not, but it's also not like it needs to be a permanent solution. Bazooka Joe wilted under the workload last season after a hot start and cooling his heels nder a more controlled environment at AAA for a bit while waiting for either another injury or a trade to open up a spot wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. If there's one thing we know about bullpens it's that they frequently change wildly from the beginning of the season thru the end so that while the likes of Wise and/or Schoeneweis seem dispoable right now it doesn't mean they won't be needed (even neccessary) a bit down the road. Speaking of relievers, today's NYPost has a write-up on Eddie Kunz, mentioning, among other things, that a call-up this season isn't out of the question for him.
  17. ="Nymr83"]the system measures longevity in a met uniform more than anything else. It measures logevity in addition to quality. IOW, not only did less than 10% of the players who ever pulled on a NYM shirt hang around long enough to see 5 seasons with the team as Armando did, but he was ranked (by your fellow CPFers) as the 5th, 4th, 3rd, 3rd, and 14th best Met during those 5 seasons - two of which were for playoff-bound teams. Had he been ranked as say the 10th best Met during those first four seasons his final rank would drop some 35 spots and obviously mediocre and worse grades would drop him even further. The bottom line is that if you're unhappy with his final spot your complaint is more with the rankers than with the system.
  18. Wright - 2.4 Reyes - 2.0 Beltran - 1.4 Church - 1.0 Casanova - 1.0 Sosa - 1.0 Smith - 1.2
  19. Slap it past the charging Feliz
  20. Easley walks ... time to push Lidge off a ledge
  21. Anytime JC Romero wants to revert to his pre-2007 suckitude is OK with me.
  22. Church is turning out to be a nice little outfielder
  23. Be nice if Sosa could suck up a coupla innings here.
  24. ]Don't take two kids age 3 and 9 months on a 350 mile car ride Well if you'd stop defying God and science by having kids 6 months apart these sort of things wouldn't happen.
