  1. That's nothing new. I hear 10 complaints of managers not bunting enough for every one I hear about bunting too often. I think fans think they're being proactive that way; 'Don't just stand there, do something'! And it doesn't matter who the manager is: Willie, Howe, Bobby, Torre
  2. Would be real nice if someone in the pen could like like anyone out.
  3. More Uggla defense by Dan Ugly and it's 3-2 Metsies.
  4. AG/DC wrote: That's a $52 million contract in jeopardy for the Yanks. Jeez, I had forgotten it was a 4-year deal they just agreed on ... 'twas thinking 3. Not off to a good start now is it and who knows if and how much he'll be able to catch over the next few years? In the meantime Nady got his first hit as a Yank, a HR to make it 11-1 Bal'mer. No word on whether he proclaimed HR-ing at Yanqui Stadium II to be his lifelong dream as seems required by all incoming Stepford ballplayers.
  5. He's going to have season-ending surgery on his shoulder so as to try and be back for the start of next year. Really his "decision" was pretty much forced by the Nady acquisition. Damon now has nowhere to go but DH and that takes care of the only place Posada currently could fit. The other guy who Nady probably spells the end for is Abreu. He'll finish the season but most likely doesn't get re-upped as Nady is under club control for next year.
  6. Marlins have the only single-digit HR guy (of the front 7) batting cleanup.
  7. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Can the Phillies even take on ManRam's outrageous contract? Seems out of character for them. It's only 1/3 of one season (approx $7mil) so it's not THAT outrageous. Any team COULD take that on if they thought it was the difference. There's no obligation to assume beyond this season.
  8. Florida Facts: They hit lots and lots of HRs - they lead the NL (and maybe MLB) - 3/4 of their infield already has 20+ and 3Ber Cantu isn't far behind (18) - they get less from their OF but Jeremy Hermida is suddenly healthy and hot sending Luis Gonzalez's old bones to the bench. Hanley Ramirez is probably the best player in MLB - at least when age and price are brought into consideration. He finished first in SI's recent; 'Who Would You Pick First to Start Your Franchise' poll of MLB execs. The Delgado/Jacobs debate - which many assumed would have fallen into the Jacobs column by now - is over and it's not in MJ's favor. His OBA has fallen every year and is down to .288 now and he's been out-homered by Delgado by a 84 - 59 edge since the trade.
  9. The question at this point might be why Philly would do a straight Manny for Burrell deal. Any upgrade in offense over the remaining 50-game stretch would be minimal at best (Pat the Bat has the same OBP and better slugging to date) plus the headache factor would go through the roof and Manny is the one guy who could suddenly make their defense worse.
  10. Just to show how the 'per/27 outs' part comes into play; ESPN's stats show Reyes as currently 9th in the NL in raw 'Runs Created'. But of course he comes to bat more than most others so when the per/27 part factors in he drops to 22nd on account of making more outs while creating those runs.
  11. Benjamin Grimm wrote: How do they define runs created for the RC27 formula? Is it the old (R + RBI) - HR? Or is it something more complex? More complex. Basically it's some form of (A*B)/C where A is getting on base, B is power, and C is plate appearences. There are numerous versions of RC. Some attempt to include every GiDP, SF, SB, CS, etc., in an attempt to fine-tune it down to the smallest detail. Others just use the major stats and figure that the other stuff is pretty much a wash.
  12. 'Runs Created' per 27 outs. Runs created is the result of throwing the sum total of a hitter's output into a formula that estimates how many runs he personally adds to a team. Then dividing that total by each 27 outs (full game) he makes adjusts for playing time and shows how many runs a theoretical lineup full of said player would score.
  13. Santana - 4.8 Wright - 1.6 Tatis - 1.8 Castro - 1.1 Beltran - 0.7
  14. The Yanx have been walking on eggshells with Ponson since he got there. He was giving up close to 2 baserunners an inning for a while and managing to win anyway. We let that fat bastard off the hook in our game too. Nice to see him finally getting his ass kicked tonight (7-0 in the 4th).
  15. Slow down ... sure. "Burst" ... not necessarily, which was kind of the point in tacking on the AAA stats -- to show that he's been hitting reasonably well for over a year now. And while I agree that his presence doesn't make the aquisition of another OFer unnecessary, let's say that maybe it allows the team to be somewhat less desperate and a bit more choosy.
  16. But Boston isn't going to be in money-dump mode - and especially not in the middle of a pennant race. It seems to me that either they either decide they can handle him for another 2 months and THEN cut ties by declining the option ... **OR** if they do want to trade him NOW they'll do it with the intention of getting as much as possible for him not just to get out from under approx 1/3 of 1 year's salary (a relatively small amount in the grand scheme of Manny-dom).
  17. OK. so we still need Church back and healthy, plus I know we don't want to base too much on recent hot streaks, but it's getting to the point with Fernando where the obtainable names on the rumor circuit aren't looking like much of an upgrade. In addition to his: .318/.365/.520 clip that he's been hitting at since his call-up, let's add that to his previous 1+ season of AAA ball since his return to baseball and the NYM signing. ABPA-H2B3BHRTBBB-KBAOBASLGWalkRtIsoP7658552134654038990160.278.354.508.076.230 And yeah, 80% of those ABs are from AAA, but those are actually dragging down the overall numbers at this point and 850+ PAs is not a sample size to sneeze at. So if the likes of Ibanez or Randy Winn showed up on the dorrstep tomorrow do we really want their ABs to come at his expense? (again, assuming Church's eventual return) He's also, lest we forget, all of 33 years old so it's not like we should expect him to turn into Dorian Gray's picture any minute.
  18. "Silvio, Mother" Just in case you were wondering, at least 1 person got this reference.
  19. * Phils stage a big comeback again (they were down 5-0 at one point) and win another CBP special 12-10. McCann knocked loopy by 2 seperate home plate collisions - the 2nd one was on the receiving end of a helmet-to-helmet from Victorino. He's out with "slight concussion" (that's what we first heard about Church) * Florida loses their slug-fest in Chicago. 2 Mike Jacobs HRs and another by Uggla were topped by ones from Soriano & Lee and finally a bases-clearing 7th inning PH double by Mike Fontenot. The rookie Samardizjia got the save in his 2nd outing. They split a 4-game series * Brews lost 2 of 3 in Houston. Cubs have 1 game lead over Brews as the teams will meet for 4 in Milwaukee starting tomorrow.
  20. Marlins at Cubs is the Sunday afternoon TBS game of the week. Soriano's 3R HR (off Vanden Hurk) just tied up the game at 5, answering Mike Jacobs' earlier 3R HR (Marquis) Cubs start the day tied with the Brewers in the Central. Fish 1 game (now 1-1/2) in back of the Mets.
  21. A nice, tidy, sub-2:30, CG (w/2 hits), 1 BB, 6 hitter ...just what the doctor ordered That's 2 consecutive 2-of-3's that could have been sweeps - but if that's the worst that can happen I'll take 'em.
  22. Knight - 0.8 Wagner - 0.8 Delgado - 2.2 Tatis - 2.2 Reyes - 2.0 Wright - 1.3 Chavez - 0.7
  23. AG/DC wrote: You pitch to this beast? As opposed to putting the go-ahead in scoring position for the lefty swinging Ankiel? ... yes I do.
  24. It's midnight in Manhattan this is no time to get cute
  25. Eeek, Heilman now 1 for 44 with the bat. Oh well, we're set up for the top of the order again next inning but so are the Cards
