  1. I get all these 'Batman' deals mixed up too, something that is either due to the unimaginative titles they give these things or the fact that I never read a comic book in my life and saw only the original movie (the Keaton/Jack one, not the campy TV job). So maybe one of you caped crusader gurus could give the rest of us a quickie guide to this whole mess. - Like do all these follow some sort of timeline/plotline or are the Keaton ones totally seperate deals from the Bale ones which are seperate from whoever else might have played him? - should one see 'Begins' prior to this current one or does each one pretty much stand alone? - and if one were going to try and catch up with earlier flicks, which ones ... like suck and shouldn't be bothered with?
  2. Jerry on his regular weekly radio spot: - If Santana had gotten Burrell in the 8th AND insisted on pitching the 9th himself he would have allowed it, but was comfortable with the relievers not blowing up - Not so down on the first throw-out at home because it took 2 excellent throws. Thought the 2nd was a misjudgement based on late start (liner which might get caught) and just the single throw, and the situation, etc. - trying to get Anderson's bat going so that he'll be useful as PH guy down the road. Is starting again tonight.
  3. "There is a leadership vacuum on this team, one not so apparent when the Mets win, but very apparent when they lose. In fact, its often why they lose." This line of thinking always drives me nuts since it's set up to be a no-lose argument. There's no leadership and I can prove it by citing it as both the cause and effect of being out-scored. Just a couple weeks ago they were muddling along at .500 when they lost a similar (if not quite as bad) game in Philly and were staring at a bigger defecit and 3 more games. That they won all three didn't prove the existence of heart, guts, chemistry and leadership any more than losing last night points to the absence of those traits.
  4. If nothing else, Yost was the best fielding 3rd base coach I've ever seen. He didn't even need a glove to pick 'em.
  5. So who's in the 'could have but didn't' category? (hard hittin') Mark Whitten Joe Adcock Bob Horner Mike Schmidt (extra innings IIRC) ?????

  8. As if on cue, Baseball Prospectus has a quickie review of which 3rd base coaches are sending runners to their doom most often. (compiled prior to last night's games) Of course you can't really draw a lot of conclusions from something like this as there's no context included - but at least the combo of NYM coaches is down towards the bottom of the list even if last night's foolish executions are tacked on. Does anyone remember the situation where we had [u:e6773d0494]a batter[/u:e6773d0494] thrown out at home? If I'm reading their chart correctly it means that we either had an inside-the-park HR try foiled or a hit-and-error combo which resulted in the same thing. Acc to this there have been 5 of those in MLB this year.
  9. Duaner as borderline major leaguer is a bit harsh. He's also unscored-upon in his last 7 outings/innings.
  10. That's kind of where I'm at too. Saying that things would have turned out better had he been left in is an easy one to make and pretty much an after-the-fact rationalization since virtually A-N-Y hurler w/a 3-run lead SHOULD be able to get out of the game. I certainly wouldn't have minded him staying in for the 9th, I just don't view the switch as a lame-brained move -- and I certainly don't buy thw whole diva-pitcher/this is what's wrong with baseball today angle.
  11. ... that is certainly the question of the day Obviously the move backfired big time and, just as obviously, the main culprits are the 4 relievers who needed to go through 11 batters before they got 3 outs no matter how one determines the smarts vs dumpth factor of the move. A quick review of the facts: * it was a 3-run lead when he was PH'd-for in bottom 8 with 1 out and none on * 105 pitches * 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 was due up for Philly in the 9th * no Wagner available The one sound-bite I heard from Manual was that he was thinking of sending him back but was at least partly disuaded by Burrell's 2-out 8th inning double (a hit that may have been foul). One could also look to Victorino's 7th inning HR or the long-ish FO from Howard that followed Burrell's 2B and ended the 8th as signs that he was 'losing it'. The bit of talk-radio from the post-mortem mostly involved heaps of garbage being tossed at - not Manual - but Santana. It was as if it was not so much a managerial decision but one of the star pitcher prima donna either asking out or flat-out refusing to pitch any further (a very different reaction, I'd guess, than if Willie were still in charge). Most of the arguments took the form of macho posturing: what a wuss; all that money and he can't go nine; back when men were men; Bob Gibson wouldn't have allowed the ball to be taken; yadda, yadda.
  12. ="soupcan"]As bad as it was it was an aberration. The Mets had that team beat. Blanton showed them nothing, Santana came up big, Delgado was clutch. The bullpen and infield defense just collapsed. A loss is a loss but the Mets beat themselves tonight. The Phillies were not the better team on the field. Except that they did a number of things wrong and that's something that kept happening last September too. They lost games then when they were the better team in addition to the ones they lost when they were outplayed. Last year they were the better team for 145 games and still blew it. This year they've NOY been the better team for virtually every one of the first 100 games. Poor baserunning, poor decisions, bad (timely) pitching and/or the inability to get the 3rd out are things bad (or at least not good) teams do.
  13. metsmarathon wrote: seriously, 105 pitches, and your closer is unavailable. is it really that unheard of to think of santana at least attempting to pitch a complete game? jeez! No it wouldn't, although to be fair he was PH'd for with 2 runners on.
  14. Does it not occur to fans on these foul pops that a ballplayer might be coming along any second now?
  15. Ran ourselves out of several runs tonight.
  16. I think they prohibit weapons in the stadium just so fans won't shoot out that stupid Kevin James screaming montage when it comes up on the big screen

  18. themetfairy wrote: The Mets tie the game on Wright's double. Endy made them throw him out at the plate - only a perfect throw from Rollins kept the Mets from taking the lead on the play. The Phils played that well all around and so because they did everything right a mediocre throw would have had him too. Keith was all over that as a good play but, with no outs, I'm not as sold. Yeah, Manuel was run between innings, presuably dicsussing the non-call on the Delgado half-swing a coupla pitches prior to the HR
  19. They can all be found in the off-line archives: http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/index.php?ThisForumID=1 (Just select June 2007, or July 2007, or whatever from the dropdown box.) OK, I was missing the drop-down menu part and thought that the default page was the only "regular" archives available.

  22. A couple questions about finding stuff: * So the Active threads in the main forum currently contain about 8 months worth of stuff - everything that was posted (at least I presume everything) from present back to December of 2007 * The 'Archived Threads' link under that shows one page of stuff all listed as from June of '06 * And now the Featured Archives' contains selected threads from June '05 thru May '07 So is there other stuff that's been lost, or is it all just somewhere I'm not seeing? - Like where can one find threads dating between May '07 (where the 'Featured' threads end) thru Dec '07 (where the active starts) - or anything from prior to the active forum that was NOT includded in the 'Featured' section?
