  2. btw, Sunday's **LAST EVER GAME AT YANQUI STADIUM** I'm sure you all know is the ESPN game of the week. But even more than that, there will be about a lenghty pre-game ceremony so first pitch won't be until around 9PM. They just may get more viewers for the pomp and circumstance than they will for the game itself. Also, anyone else getting a kick out of the following? - ARod gets hits in September: well sure, NOW he does it ... too little too late ya bum ... now that the pressure is gone he heats up ... etc - Jeter gets September hits: never say die ... won't give up without a fight ... what a warrior ... etc. Francesa even noticed this and mocked it.
  3. Bobby Parnell = 848
  4. You gotta be fuckin' kidding me!!!
  5. metirish wrote: Keith and Ron killing Mock for throwing off-speed stuff with a six run lead , fine, but I never hear them critical of met pitching in similar situations. It's not just that he's throwing off-speed stuff, it's that he's doing so w/a 3-2 count in situations where a walk is the best way to get a team behind by a bunch back into the game.
  6. Not me, I'm on an innocent puppy search.
  7. - the problem with leaving in Rincon is that he's never been anything other than a lefty specialist his whole career - the problem with walking Dukes is that you'd be loading the bases and pushing a 2nd run into scoring position where a cheapie single can do almost as much damage as the HR did This game is on the hitters who aren't hitting and on the pitchers who are continually * almost but not quite * getting out of the inning. It's not on Jerry.
  8. It's very appropriate that Mock is pitching on a Monday (only CPF old-timers will get that joke)
  9. Sanchez was the only reliever the other day to have a good outing ... therefore it's his turn to suck today. On edit: and I typed that before the HR
  10. OMG, I knew Yost had allowed the LOOGY Shouse to pitch to Burrell, but I didn't realize that he intentionally walked the lefty Howard just to get the Shouse/Burrell matchup. Baseball Prospectus says it may have been overdue. The Brews' other problem has been the inability to win the big game. They're 23-11 recently but only if you take out the [u:83c3b9bfe7]0-11[/u:83c3b9bfe7] in games to the Cubs, Mets & Phils
  11. The good news is that we scored 23 runs on these guys during the most recent two game series. The bad is that we let up 18 in the process. No way should that team be getting 18 runs off anybody much less off a (supposedly) good staff.
  12. More from Rubin: Triple-A Buffalo is expected to announce its new affiliation at a press conference next Monday. While nothing is official, Id wager thats where the Mets are relocating from New Orleans. Syracuse seems like a pretty dysfunctional situation from this distance.
  13. I suppose the biggest difference between this and the Willie situation is that Yost's contract was up at the end of the season and they probably had already decided to cash in those chips anyway - as opposed to Willie who had been granted an extension prior to that same season. Both do/would smell of panic moves but, if you're Milwaukee, it's probably a good time to panic. Sveum is the only guy I can remember from a non-NY team that drove me to say; 'Damn that guy's a lousy 3rd base coach"! Most coaches you just don't see enough of to make those kinds of judgements but Sveum packed a lot of bad decisions into a short span for me.
  14. Me in yesterday's IGT: "Now why is Brewer mgr Ned Yost leaving (LOOGY) Brian Shouse in to face Burrell and then Victorino?" Guess Brewer ownership was asking the same questions.
  15. Well it's time for the Nationals. Should be able to clean up there, right? Game 149; Monday , Sept 17 - Mets @ Nationals Nats 12 - Mets 4 Brian Lawrence (3.1 IP, 4R, 6H) vs Tim Redding (4 IP, 4R, 6H): Mets jump out with three runs off Redding before he records his 2nd out - 2 on another Beltran HR ... but then only once more for the rest of the game (Green's 5th inning solo HR) off Redding and the murderer's row bullpen of: Albaledejo, Saul Rivera, Luis Ayala (1 IP, 2H), A. Munoz, and Jesus Colome. Starter Brian Lawrence - and, gee, don't you like hearing those words - retires 10 of the first 11 he faced ... and then implodes, not recording another out until he was pulled with the score tied in the 4th. Then the relief parade starts: - Sele bails Lawrence out of the 4th but coughs up one in the 5th (5-4 Nats) - Schoeneweis bails Sele out of the 5th, but gives up two in the 6th before being pulled in favor of Sosa who gives up two more himself. (9-4 Nats) - Willie Collazzo starts the 8th until he gives up a double. - Out he goes and in comes Joe Smith who not only gives up Collazzo's runner but then two more on a PH HR by some guy named Ryan Church (12-4 Nats). But, hey, at least he pitched a scoreless 8th right? Four more errors, although all the runs were earned this time. Phils, meanwhile, jump out to an 11-0 lead in St Louis ... and then hang on to win 13-11 as the Cards put the tying runs on in the 9th with one out but can't get them in. Lead = 2-1/2; N-HOP Pct rises from 40.7% to 44.0% (we need 11 "good" outcomes out of 25 games (13 Met games, 12 Phils)
  16. I go looking for puppies to kick.
  17. Down to two races in the AL, and really only one of them means anything. - In the East it's Tampa & Boston where the winner gets the East title and loser gets the WC. Sawx are a game behind (2 extra losses) as they start a series tonight in Tampa-land. BP's playoff odds projection has Tampa approx a 2-1 favorite to hang onto the lead. Tampa just brought up last year's #1 overall draft pick, LHP David Price. He pitched 5.1 innings of 2-run/3-hit ball yesterday against the Yanx in his ML debut. - The Central's got the more interesting race since the loser almost certainly goes home. ChiSox tried to make it more interesting last night by blowing the 7-0 lead they had heading into the 7th capped off by an 8th inning GS. But the Tigers returned the favor by playing the Kyle Farnsworth card which means a GS was served up in the bottom of the inning too and the lead was back to 4. Chicago has a 1-1/2 game lead as they pull into da Bronx for 4 games. BP makes them about a 3-1 favorite to hold off Minnesota who head to Cleveland for 3 games.
  18. From the 'I still feel like shit but at least it's not just us' file; the ChiSox took a 7-0 lead against the Tiggers into the 7th and blew the entire thing before getting the 2nd out in the 8th. The Twinkies lost earlier today and it looked like gaining a game and a half was in the bag. Not yet it isn't.
  19. And seeing as how we've probably blown our chance to catch the Cubs for NL's best record (unless we sweep them next week) we might as well root for them to kick Houston to the curb as it well be one less team to fight for if this comes down the the WC. Those two will play again in Milwaukee tomorrow and then have one more hanging around to be played if neccessary at the end of the season.
  20. Perez - 4.0 Wright - 3.0 Delgado - 1.0 Smith - 0.5
  21. Struck him out!! Cubs get their first no-hitter in 36 years during a "road" game in front of a home crowd in a neutral city from a pitcher coming off a 12 day break due to shoulder issues.
  22. 'nother ground out - 2 down it's up to Darrin Erstad
  23. Yeah, WGN is carrying it because ESPN just switched over to it so we can see the 9th inning. GO - 1 down
  24. Niese - 5.0 Beltran - 2.2 Wright - 0.8 Reyes - 1.2 Tatis - 0.8
  25. Santana - 4.0 Sanchez - 0.3 Delgado - 1.0 Beltran - 0.7 Easley - 0.7 Tatis - 0.5
