  1. I guess I'm the only one not bothered by those comments because I'd like to drive one of those little fuckers around knocking down shit too. Sounds like fun!
  2. Just out of curiosity, is Upton going to run out ANY of these GiDPs he hits into, or just assume he's cooked from the start and jog them all out? That's 3 in 2 games now, and Maddon yanked him from at least 2 games during the season for not hustling.
  3. Manuel leaving Utley & Howard back-to-back like this makes it easier for Maddon to combat, particularly with Price on the squad as well as two other LH relievers.
  4. But still above both Sibby Sisti and Dick Pole
  5. I think we can call him Jayson Werth-less tonight. Boy is having a rough game. So far, so good as far as I'm concerned: I was a Philly phan last night (cuz I figured if they lost a Hamels game to start out it might be a short series) but am a Rays fan tonight for much the same reason.
  6. He competes with both Urban Shocker and Van Lingle Mungo for my favorite names in MLB honor roll.
  7. Razor Shines is in my all-time baseball names Hall of Fame -- great to have him abordick.
  8. The way you get that call is to plunk the runner with the throw -- if the ball gets to the fielder they're not going to call it. It's risky in that if you don't get the call he's obviously safe and other runners may move up if the ball bounces away ... but at least you'll get the satisfaction of hitting him, 'specially if you throw it real hard.
  9. ]who cares if you were on the roster all year (Heilman) when you were BAD the whole time? is this a list of who helped the Mets the most or who played for the Mets the most? It's not a case of one over the other but a balance between the two. There's only so much one can do for a team when he's not on the roster for 3/4 of the season short of a Murphy or Jefferies type stretch. It's the same reason you have A.Reyes, Cancel & Casanova on your list above Alou, or Chavez over Pagan even though those lower guys had better stats over a shorter period. I'll re-look at Stokes and maybe move him up some, but considering that Heilman was one of the most used pitchers on the staff this year and is being rated at somewhere around the 23rd or so best player is hardly unduly rewarding him.
  10. Well in that case your argument is with everyone who has cast a vote so far (except Firecracker) and not just Edgy. I've got Stokes lower than anyone (28th place - 3 points) so maybe I need to re-evaluate but I guess I go back to the whole year on the roster vs not getting there until mid-August thing.
  11. "Didn't work out so well" is a nice way to put it. Oakland got Dan Haren who gave them several good years and then got flipped for a new crew of prospects. And while the real target Daric Barton had a rough first year with the bat he's still only 22. Meanwhile St Louie got one full year out of Mulder then 3 injury filled ones and threw in a new contract costing them $13mil over the last two seasons for a handful of innings pitched. I have no idea if Mulder has anything left (turns 32 next season) but StL owed him $11mil to find out so dumping him made sense. He certainly could still latch on back there or elsewhere for some short-end money. He's only thrown ~100 innings total over the last 3 seasons.
  12. ]Picnic bleachers go See, they're returning Shea to it's natural state. First all those plastic seats in those newfangled colors went. So did the updates to the scoreboard, the padded wall, plus those Johnny-come-lately picnic seats. And that crass video board - we didn't need that kind of fancy stuff when I first started going to games! Before long, when we're all not looking, they're going to sneak in the replacement yellow-orange-blue-green wooden fold-down chairs. After that it's time to restore the green plywood wall and a proper bare-bones scoreboard. At which point they'll deflate that blow-up mock stadium they're "building" next door and we're gonna party like it's Nineteen-Sixty-Four
  13. Jeffie on FAN tonight: - sod at the new joint in the next 2 weeks or so - the structure of Shea itself won't start getting razed for 2 or 3 months - restaurants in CitiField for weddings, meetings, etc. will start some time this winter. Those will only be used for reserved affairs until (and if) the Willets Point section gets redeveloped and there's enough consumer traffic to to open them for use 365
  14. St Louis not going to pick up Mark Mulder's option.
  15. They showed Kerfeld in the stands the other day sitting w/some other Philly execs. Has grown out of his Drew Carey-ish '80s dork/punk look to the point where he looked almost human. Remember it was Kerfeld who went out of his way to show Gary Carter the ball after fielding a come-backer as if to taunt Carter's slump even more. Gary got his revenge to end game 5.
  16. Spinal Tap was the birth of great concept. Spaceballs was Brooks totally out of ideas so he just found a new genre to satire and, in lieu of a real plot, just threw 2-3 dozen jokes at you each minute meaning that even if most of them sucked there were still several chuckles per minute. But it was lazy movie-making which settles for a series of puns over any kind of substance and it's main redeeming feature is that it was miles better than the still-to-come 'Men in Tights' Tap wins by tap-out
  17. Buck Showalter claimed on a BB2N show earlier this year that he was managing in the minors when this sort of play actually happened! If I recall his details correctly it was an infield fly so the batter was out, then one runner passed the other, then as the ball landed untouched it bounced and hit one of the other runners in fair territory. On edit: Recounted here As Buck said on the show; 'try calling THAT one into team headquarters the next day'
  18. So I guess this means it's been decided that Joba is going to the pen. {bah-dum-ching}
  19. The out is not a force play but rather an after-the-fact play so the run should count.
  20. metirish wrote: Good news , the few times I have tuned to ESPN radio for Rangers games the reception even in the Bronx was not as good as the FAN. That was the fear factor, that 1050 would be the fall-back position and their signal is MUCH weaker than that of 660. Or, if not 1050, they and the Yanx might have switched stations since both 660 & 880 are owned by the same conglomerate. But since CBS-880 is an all-news station the pre & post-game deals are more likely to get the bum's rush so they can get back to their regular programming as quickly as possiible.
  21. The prior agreement had run out at the end of the year and there was thought that changes might be on their way. But it's not. And although the length of the deal is apparently still a state secret the place to find your Mets on the radio in the foreseeable future will remain unchanged from where it's been for over 20 years.
  22. Toughest choice on the board -- went with Raiders based on the sheer scope of it's return to action/adventure bigness.
  23. Stupid fun vs stupid stupidity. Shack all the way.
  24. Tootsie and it ain't even close.
  25. No team from the state of Florida has ever lost a post-seaon series. 8-0 to date Marlins x 3 in '97 Marlins x 3 in '03 Rays x 2 in '08
