  1. Perez - 4.0 Francoeur - 1.5 Wright - 1.5 Catalanatto - 0.5 Mathews - 0.5 Mejia - 0.5 Castillo - 0.5
  2. GMJ & Jacobs - I'll just dub the pair Gar Master Jake - are absolutely killing a lineup that, frankly, doesn't need a whole lot of help in killing itself. Not only no hits but barely any contact. GMJ apparently got the start tonight because he had good numbers against (if I were a) Carpenter but it wasn't like it was a huge sample size (something like 15 ABs) and I wonder how long ago those ABs were.
  3. Then, of course, there was the holding pen complete with on-site judge to handle all the incidents at the Vet during Eagles games.
  4. Those machine pitches didn't look 85 mph to me either (and the second guy in the vid mentions [u:33uf14ro]7[/u:33uf14ro]5). Still, the kid looks like he got skillz. Good thing this isn't hoops otherwise he'd have "street agents" sniffing around him already.

Not my favorite part either as my tolerance for idiot callers is low to begin with - but, what were there, like three of them?!? Kay has a right in his role on 1050 to an opinion. And even though I agree about the gimmick, he comes across as a bit of a Yankee-fan jerk here. This is my biggest complaint. He proclaims this a "gimmick" that YES would never stoop to even though YES not only put Kim Jones on for sideline stuff but rigged the post-game questioning of the manager so that she always got the first question, a question that was often fed to her by Yanqui head honchos specifically designed to make Torre look bad so as to grease the skids for his eventual departure! But at least YES wouldn't damage their journalistic credibility by taking phone-calls. I also don't get his assertion on "giving up". Taking calls from fans is giving up? Please 'splain. Don't you understand that baseball is cumulative? Getting blown out in game 7 affects the remaining 155 games from the photo above, when did Kay become a doppelganger for Collin Montgomerie? Montgomerie, who is, in turn, a doppelganger for Mrs. Doubtfire.
  6. http://deadspin.com/5515545/meet-the-fastball-hitting-slick-fielding-five+year+old I mean, at least to see if he can get him his 1st Grade equivalency diploma so as to get him into the draft earlier.
  7. Pelfrey - 4.8 Francoeur - 1.4 Wright - 0.5 Bay - 0.9 Castillo - 1.2 Reyes - 1.2
  8. Valdes - 0.6 Nieve - 0.6 Igarashi - 0.6 Feliciano - 0.6 Francoeur - 2.0 Wright - 1.4 Castillo - 1.2 Barajas - 0.7 Bay - 0.5 Jacobs - 0.3
  9. At least GMJ didn't go the Toriiiii Hunter route and proclaim that black HIspanics are "impostors" and not really black.
  10. Sterling's call for Castillo: No need to think one up
  11. Can you be ready to bat first but not ready to bat third? How about second, does the level of readiness there fall in between that of first and third or does it not work that way?
  12. Except that if the Mets didn't want to go after Piniero, either because they didn't want to pay the price or because there was some sort of prior agreement not to try, then that's a completely different article. But what Harper is doing here is to admit that, while he also had questions about Piniero being worth the price, he isn't about to let that stop him from running with a "what if" column after his first good game. Meanwhile, is there any question about how quickly he would have cited those same pre-signing questions to go with the "another bloated Minaya contract" angle on the occasion of Piniero's first bad NYM outing? He then goes on to use the Cora connection to imply - hell, to state - that the GM is in the business of funneling his interest info through the backup short-stop to the intended target even when the target is apparently a false one all along. The more plausible explanation here is: 'hmmm, a possible NYM FA not only had a good game right just as the Mets are in the middle of a losing streak but did so right here in the Bronx during the afternoon and on my local TV station ... now what possibly could I write today's column about that would have the added benefit of me not having to leave my desk?'

  14. Frenchy's walks are interesting because it doesn't look like he's changed his approach any. That HR last night was pure Francoeur, swinging off his heels (literally) at a 0-0 pitch he had no business going after and smacking it out of the park. I've already cast my MVP vote for Pujols for next season. Cantu has actually tied (or maybe broken) some kind of record for consecutive games with at least one hit & RBI to start a season. His streak's even longer if you go back to the end of last year although, even then, it's still short of the all-time record. Piazza at 17 straight (if you can use the words Piazza and straight in the same sentence) in 2000 is one of the longer recent streaks. The record, I believe, is 22 from back around 100 years ago.
  15. Egg-Zactly. Harper leaves himself enough wiggle room to virtually assure that he'd be writing the exact opposite column had Piniero signed here and not started well while also asking us to buy the notion that Omar funnels all his off-season plans through the backup short-stop.
  16. And now none of it matters
  17. And I wouldn't want to depend on a pitcher out there as my go-ahead run - especially Ollie
