  1. I don't predict the Mets, I expect the Mets.
  2. Haven't gotten around to it - might now that it's out on DVD - but the reviews couldn't have been worse. Maybe it's that some folks couldn't get their heads around the idea of displaying Holmes as a kind of action hero - but in the original books that's what he was, or at least there were action parts in addition to merely the brooding, thinking Holmes. Besides, who better than to portray a drug-addict than RDJ.
  3. If you're an ex-NYM with a hard last name to spell, well then today is your day to make news: ** Doug Meintkiewicz leaves Dodger camp after being told he's lost the LH-PH job to Garret Anderson and is not going to make the roster. Dodgers offer to keep him around as a coach of some sort but he says he wants to play more and will go home to "consider his options" ** Scott Schoeneweis signs a minor league deal with the BoSox
  4. We were discussing Figueroa somewhere in the last day or two, but I can't remember which 'all-purpose' thread it's buried in. Marty Noble: Figueroa may have secured roster spot -- Veteran righty could be long man in Mets' bullpen Friday's results not-withstanding. As mentioned before, they either have to keep him or risk losing him and I don't think he'll be an easy to slide through waivers as he was in the past. Eddie Colman said on the radio today that Niese is all but certain to be the 5th starter - which, assuming that's true, leaves only a couple of spots left for the Nieve, Figgy, Takahashi, Calero, Green contingent. Nieve would be in the same boat as Figgy options-wise. Not sure if he'd be more or less attractive if dangled out on the waiver wire.
  5. Some guy was crying about this on the radio at about 6:30 this morning -- at least we won a title before the old one was torn down so we know all the ghost made it out of there ... And, yeah, the word 'cathedral' was mentioned at least twice during his 30 second call Shut the Fuck Up Asswipe!!
  6. Four runs!?! - just cut the bastard!!
  7. Well Figgy has no options left and, unlike last season, he has a recent enough record of big league success to refuse a demotion even if he were going to pass through waivers which itself is less likely for the same reason. That all limits their choices to: keep him, lose him, or trade him. - I can't believe they'd be content to simply lose him, not knowing how thin their pitching is overall and in light of the (however limited) success he had last season plus his work this spring. - Trading him is an option but teams know that at this time of year those being dangled as trade bait are there because their team has no spot for them so they'll just wait it out until the deadline rather than cough something up in return. He's the biggest question mark remaining IMO.
  8. How about if we just give it life imprisonment instead?
  9. Also, Tiger hasn't admitted it (at least not in public) but one supposedly in the know source leaked a story about him using Ambien shortly before jumping into his car that Thanksgiving night, hence both the accident and his sacking out right afterward. I guess Ambien in the new Valium.
  10. Maybe that upbringing partially explains why Frank Thomas claimed (here) that Ralph wasn't exactly Mr. Helpful to him when he was a young buck for the Bucs; Ralph was merely doing unto others as he himself had been done unto back in his day.
  11. There are various ways you can go with all these: pen-v-starter; now-v-later; MLB-v-minors questions with Mejia - but I don't think citing either the Johan or Joba scenarios are all that enlightening.
  12. Besides, Albert would be blocking Ike by next year and we wouldn't want that.
  13. The "arbitration clock" isn't an all or nothing thing so it really isn't that big a deal as long as the ML assignment is just for a short time. A player gets a day's worth of ML service time for each day that he's on the 25-man roster so a handful of days or even weeks on the ML team this spring is unlikely to make any difference 3 or so years down the road. A longer stay might but that's why backup SSs are Cora-like guys and not young'uns still learning the trade. It's the option assignment and an earlier-than-ideal promotion to the 40-man roster that would matter more as far as being started early - although if you anticipate him being called up at anytime this year those are going to start anyway.. But, if not, I believe Tejeda will still be exempt from needing protection even if not on the 40-man next winter so that, and the option not used by promoting and demoting him, would potentially gain the team some flexibility in the future
  14. Nymr83 wrote: wasnt Igarashi given a 2 year deal? that alone likely jumps him onto the roster ahead of Calero and maybe Misch (Misch stays if there isnt another viable long man) A 2-year deal means he's not likely to simply get cut loose if there's not a spot for him on the OD roster, not that he needs to be on the roster for each and every day of those two years (unless there's specific contract language that dictates otherwise). I guess you'd prefer Jacobs? I'd prefer Jacobs to Davis as the 25th guy on the roster*. Of course based on what I've seen I'd prefer Carter to either one of them -- an by 'seen' I mean what I've seen of Jacobs cuz I've seen virtually nothing of Carter. * If Muffy gets hurt or really suxx for an extended time to the point where you want a more full-time 1Bman then you've got a different story and I'd prefer Davis assuming the minor lg stint is going well.
  15. The only guy "left out" there is Green in the pen, although - as mentioned elsewhere - he does have options even though they do have to pay him at his full ML rate during any time spent in the minors.
  16. 'Digital Domain' sounds like it's a throw-back to the first wave of stadium names which all seemed to be those hi-tech computer firms with names that didn't exactly roll off the tongue
  17. You may have heard the term here first but I'm virtually positive that it's not a CPF-coined term.
  18. And I bet they fail to put a Met HoF in that one too.
  19. Nothing wrong with Olberman's take on this - but for the most part I find these realignment plans akin to nothing more than a re-arranging of the furniture and are usually based on conditions as they exist now but may not in the future. I don't think they really solve any problems.
  20. "I sincerely believe the Mets were so worried about putting across the idea that Citi Field was a break from the Met past (Shea, essentially) that it didn't occur to them that the Met past was important to their customers." Yup!
  21. They can't be getting much in ad revenue for these games, so if it winds up costing them more to televise them than they could possibly hope to make back (particularly for mid-week/day/road games) I don't think their reluctance to show each game is baffling at all.
