  2. Wright's throwing has been very consistent since his early season hiccups. 1-hitter thru 5 for Niese.
  3. Blanco - 2.0 Reyes - 0.5 Wright - 0.5 Santana - 1.4 Mejia - 0.2 Nieve - 0.3 PFeliciano - 0.1

Several people need to correct this in their voting in the 1st SD game (the 2-1 Met win). Schaefer POTG 6/8/10 - Mets 2, Padres 1 Yes it's obvious who you mean seeing as how only one Feliciano actually played in that game, but (for reminders and newbies) the tallying for this project is an automated process so you need to specify PFeliciano or JFeliciano. By the same token, there's only one Rodriguez on the squad so don't send the counting program into a frenzy looking for the Met whose name starts with FRodri... it won't find him.

It took eight+ years to add the 2nd 111 Mets, then just under eight seasons for the next 111, then eight+ to get to 444, but then just over five seasons for the next batch, then a hair under five, and more like four+ for each of the following two groups of 111 At this rate we're looking at late 2014 (or even sooner) for the arrival of NYM #1,000
  6. Well, other than the 3rd thru 9th innings this wasn't a bad game.
  7. You've now changed the argument from 'Don't Bunt' to 'Don't Take a Pitch'. Pick one viewpoint and stick with it.
  8. Games Pitched in a Met Career 1) John Franco - 695 2) Pedro Feliciano - 402 3) Tom Seaver - 401 4) Jerry Koosman - 376 5) Jesse Orosco - 372 6) Tug McGraw - 361 7) Armando Benitez - 333 8) Dwight Gooden - 305 9) Aaron Heilman - 305 10) Jeff Innis - 288
  9. This Gregorson guy is another one of these Padre reliever that I covet: 31 IP / 36 Ks / 2 BBs ... (now 38 Ks)

That actually makes it worse though. Then it's just giving up a strike for the off-chance of an extra base for Reyes. C'mon, guys take pitches all the time for all kinds of reasons. Doing so with a fake bunt is hardly some kind of flawed strategy. Plus if the runner is going it could hold the catcher back for an extra half-second.

  12. Pelfrey - 5.0 Rodriguez - 0.4 Dessens - 0.3 Davis - 2.2 Reyes - 1.5 Pagan - 0.6

  14. Stuff like that was really getting on my nerves a few weeks back: Jerry putting a bunch of hitters in the hole by calling for bunts (when they were of questionable value in the first place) then turning them loose only after they were at a huge disadvantage. Of course part of that is the hitters' fault for not getting the thing down, but one of my biggest problems with the sac bunt strategy is that its proponents always assume success. Fortunately that does seem to have stopped recently although it remains to be seen if it's a true change or just a lull.
  15. Given the choice between a free Ivy League education - and getting to play ball - versus 42nd round bonus money and I'd choose college as well.
  16. I wonder if he takes the (minor) money or goes to college (St. John's?). 17. The obvious comparison in terms of the WOW!! factor is Kerry Woods' 20-K performance as a 20 y/o, a game which, I believe, came in his 5th start. Woods was younger at the time and didn't have the same build up, lofty draft pick, or contract coming in. But neither did he have the same track record or expectations so his gem was more out of nowhere and under the radar (it was even a day game). I do remember Francesa locking on to the game as it was happening while alerting and updating his listeners as to what was going on so the buzz (at least in NY) kind of grew from there.

Or at least that's the world according to Nats color man Rob Dibble. THE Rob Dibble? The Wild Man Rob Dibble who averaged 4.5 BB per 9 IP during his career? I know he knows fastballs. But how does he know what a strike is, or should be? Dibble's just a homer-announcer-extraordinaire. It's not just Strasburg, all Washington pitchers are cruelly deprived of strikes by umpires. And they're not just missed calls, they're intentionally bad calls because the umps are specifically biased against the Nationals. And when the tracking-box thing backs him up he cites it as evidence, and when it doesn't back him up he just simply ignores it.
  19. His staff even gets him to post it in the correct thread too.
  20. Paulino pops out and the Phils win - so no passing them tonight. Does put some more ground between us and the fishies though so it's not all bad. Atlanta out west again.
  21. Where's 'All of the Above'?
  22. Infield single by Stanton and they're loaded up for Paulino
