  1. BoSox reached Ubaldo for 6 runs on 10 hits over 5.2 IPs - lead 6-5 in the 8th
  2. OK, no GOOD reason for Dickey not to finish this game.
  3. No reason for Dickey not to finish this game.
  4. First ML loss this afternoon. 6 IP - 9 hits (all singles), 0 BB, 9 Ks Nats lose 1-0 to Royals
  5. This is an ESPN game for youse outta-towners w/o the MLB-EI package.
  6. I don't really think this article says a whole helluva lot other than Lee might be traded which we all kind of already know. "a source with knowledge of the team's thinking" -- I hate that phrase even as it seems to be used more often these days. This is barely more credible than me saying, 'yeah, that sounds like something the Mets would think about' "Two years ago, when the Mets agreed to trade for Johan Santana, another star lefty headed for a major contract, they required the opportunity to negotiate an extension. That was right before spring training in 2008, and Santana was signed for that season." -- actually it was Santana who insisted of negotiating a deal as he was a rare pre-FA who had a no-trade clause and therefore could scuttle the whole thing. -- and the rest just speculates on who might or might not be part of a deal; again, something I could have done with as much accuracy. And that 6/180 deal it would take to retain him is numbers pulled out of the air or agent speak (or both). 6 years for a pitcher turning 33?
  7. I guess that makes him the first dead manager then ... well, since Art Howe anyway.
  8. Can't say I saw that one coming. I have no idea who Edwin Robinson is ... but here's to him anyway.
  9. Yes it's a TV show. Think of the female equivalent name to Wilmer ... and then look at her necklace.
  10. Nieve - 1.6 Parnell - 0.1 Igarashi - 0.1 Reyes - 1.5 Pagan - 2.2 Wright - 1.5 Davis - 1.5 Bay - 1.0 Tejada - 0.3 Francoeur - 0.2
  11. Knock-knock-knock-knock-knock ... WILLLLL-MERRRRRR
  12. The Tigers have the pitcher who says Ni
  13. Nieve going a long way towards restoring sanity to this game.
  14. Gonna be a bunch of bumps and bruises after this game ends ... IF this game ends.
  15. Gotta love raking over the pen on opening day of a series.
  16. John Sickels: One player who does not have age on his side is New York Mets farmhand Josh Satin, already 25 years old. Scouts discount the UC-Berkeley (sixth round, 2008) product due to so-so tools and his age, but he's hit at every level of pro ball to which he's been exposed, including a .316/.406/.459 mark in the Florida State League this year. He moved up to Double-A last week and is 8-for-25 (.320) so far, albeit with a weak BB/K ratio of 1/7, granted sample size issues. Primarily a second baseman (although he has some experience at third and first), his range is limited but he's reliable on the routine play, not making many errors. A career .298/.388/.450 hitter so far, he's rated mostly as an organizational player, but strikes me as the type of guy who could end up being a surprise contributor in the majors in his late 20s.
  17. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think the Mets should trade for both Lee and Oswalt, and then sign and quickly promote Matt Harvey. Then three fifths of their rotation would be Lee-Harvey-Oswalt. Now THAT would be a killer rotation. P.S. Serves me right for waiting for the right moment to spring that joke and now being beaten to the punch.
  18. I can't believe we still have two more IL series left.
  19. Ceetar wrote: Visiting team gets a cut of the ticket sales. but I imagine they don't get a cut of the ticket fees. That's probably true in the same way that luxury boxes are considered "rent" rather than tickets sold and therefore aren't subject to being shared with the visiting club.
  20. 50) Lawrence of Arabia (1962) -- Unlike KWAI, this Lean epic has not dated a bit, due to the moral ambiguity at its core. Not only NOT dated, but maybe less so as time goes on. The seeds of much of why the mid-east in general and Iraq in particular are screwed up to this day are in the scenes where the old men are carving up the spoils of the Ottoman Empire and distributing it as political favors amongst the warring tribes and their corrupt leaders. OToole is one of the greatest screen actors who ever lived, and this is his shining moment. Yup
  21. Santana - 1.5 Mejia - 0.25 Nieve - 0.25 Wright - 0.5 Davis - 0.5 Bay - 0.5 Tejada - 0.5 Pagan - 0.5
  22. It's just that the tortured logic was so much fun to follow: -- OK that's it, no celebrities in the clubhouse ... well maybe if Michael Jordan came by ... but I don't about after a loss ... In trying to make it seem like they were laying down some hard & fast rule about the sanctity of their clubhouse they still managed to reveal how celeb-hungry they were.
  23. We can look at Santana's last three games or the five prior to that: 36.2 IP with 3 ER - where he was 1-0 in those five starts even as the Mets were 1-4 Point being that small samples - particularly the most recent ones - go a long way in coloring opinions. As for the future, he's going to be here for a while so it's best to just hang on and see where it leads. There's always a risk in linking up with a player (particularly a pitcher) for the long term so we're going to have to live with whatever he gives. btw, Halladay's last three starts: 22 IP; 25 H; 11 R (10 ER); 5 HRs
