  1. If the Dodgers actually had managed to tie that thing up again after choking it away did they even have enough players to finish it out? After double-switching Manny out an inning or two earlier for defense with a "safe" lead - LA led 5-0 and later 6-2 before bringing fat-ass into the game - both Manny's replacement, Garret Anderson, and also Russell Martin, promptly got tossed for arguing balls & strikes. Both actually looked to be good if borderline pitches but apparently Torre & the Dodgers were pissed about a few calls that Mariano got the previous night as well; 'Hey look, somehow this shoe wound up on my other foot'!
  2. Loney had three choices on that play ... and took the worst one. Tie game.
  3. Wasn't there some story that his given name was Lorne, but he changed the spelling so as to not make it appear that he was emulating actor Lorne Green ?
  4. Can fat-assed Broxton get the fuck out of this inning please?
  5. I think any characterization of Tejada's defense over this short span as "game changing" is optimism gone wild. Wanting Tejada to be a vast upgrade over Castillo is vastly different from pretending that it's already the case.

  7. Bobby on BB2N spouting the usual "I can't talk about an ongoing process" lines.
  8. Arizona has the worst ERA in the NL and Tampa got 0, 5, and 2 hits off them in their series at home and was lucky to win even one (the middle) of the three. Meanwhile Evan Longoria and BJ Upton scrapped in the dugout between innings apparently over Upton's lack of hustle - not an uncommon problem with BJ.
  9. I'm in the 'Not very funny' camp too. A few isolated laughs but mostly ridiculous.
  10. Most of those were ancient too. When Gary mentioned Bay being the 10th Canadian to have 1K hits the only ones I could think of ahead of him were Walker & Stairs. Forgot about Puhl being a Canuck but the others are just too obscure. And how did O'Neil get elected to Congress from Mass if he wasn't even a citizen?
  11. Great list of reasons why Met fans are/should be more hopeful with Tejada than Castillo and look forward more to his future. But do you honestly think his being here for the dozen-plus games he's started in Castillo's place has made even as much as one game in the standings? And do take into consideration his barely .300 OBA, his 2 errors, and that triple-play he hit into.
  12. Plus you can make the (stretchy) argument that, on account of both Pagan & Bay passing through the NYM system (prior to leaving then returning), everyone on the field save for Francouer was "home grown". On a more general note; are Met fans getting overly giddy overly quickly over Tejada on account of his name being 'not Castillo' ? Of course they are - but he shows signs of being promising so let's enjoy it while things are going well.
  13. Pelfrey - 3.1 Parnell - 0.4 PFeliciano - 0.4 Rodriguez - 0.4 Wright - 2.2 Reyes - 1.5 Bay - 0.7 Davis - 0.6 Tejada - 0.7
  14. The Friedman twins, btw, were Esther Pauline and Pauline Esther Now I bet they can bring it for a while but now way can they handle platoon situations like Cheng & Eng. Those guys can left & right you to death.
  15. K-K-K for Wags No 1st place for another day.
  16. Still not much in the way of power from Milledge: 0 HRs so far, IsoP < 100, and 18 of his hits for XBHs (16 2Bs) -- but his BA & OBA are looking better.
  17. On to the 9th in Atlanta so we get to see Wagner try and protect a 2-run lead. The save, if he gets it, will be his career 400th.
  18. A Brooks Conrad HR (sounds like he belongs in a British spy novel) pads the Braves lead to 3-1 - bottom 8
  19. In fairness to Frankie, the hits were a broken bat bloop and a six-hop IF single. But, yeah, I didn't like the Dickey relief job the other day either.
  20. GO to SS - on pitch #149, Edwin Jackson gets his no-no !!
  21. Walk - the [u:mb48cfb9]8th[/u:mb48cfb9] of the game Jason Bartlett now to try
  22. FO to LF - Wily Aybar to block
  23. Edwin Jackson - still hurling for Arizona despite closing in on 140 pitches - gets the 1st out of the 9th with his no-hitter intact.
  24. Would have been nice not to just hand the Twinkies two of the three outs in that inning but a 3-run lead should be enuff.
