  1. I have no reason to be over optimistic / But sometimes when they win I can brave bad weather
  2. 3 - 1 in May, baby (against two bad franchises) no stopping us now!!
  3. Oh that logic has been going on since the WBC was first concocted. Some guy would get injured in August and it would be accompanied by a statement that 'the WBC claims another victim'. Making connections is easy when you come up with the cause and effect ahead of time.
  4. It's Carson Benge's world and the rest of us are just living in it. OK, that's way over the top, but this is starting to get the feel of something big coming on
  5. But in-market streaming is a different situation. Here, both Edgy and Hot Corner are paying for NYM games via mlb.tv but are getting blacked out of more than 10% of them*: all 14 Nats games (used to be 18) plus three more vs the O's (was occasionally six). * with network and 'alternate' platform games included, it's around 11-12% (17 of 150?) or around one game in eight. And of course with no discount for the missed telecasts.
  6. He's a Moniak, Moniak in the box / Was a bust in Philly but is raking for the Rox
  7. Yeah, the real crime of his is the not-quite-in-market teams that wind up on the banned list. That Hot Corner, 230-some miles from D.C. and an additional 40 or so from Baltimore, has those teams blocked on the basis that he could potentially get the MASN network in his area (varying wildly on which cable/satellite packages he does or doesn't subscribe to) reeks of short-sightedness. 'Protecting' MASN in the DMV area is arguably one thing in the attempt to keep regional sports network partners viable. But then extending that umbrella all the way out to eastern N.C. and therefore placing him square in the Nats/Orioles 'fan base' because those are the closest teams to him goes way overboard in the idea to keep MASN from potentially losing some of 'their' customers.
  8. Yes, he successfully hid his true age for many years but that eventually got tougher in the internet age. He became father to triplets at the age of 61, something that's capable of killing a 21 y/o!! Nets games and Braves games were mentioned above. He also did Atlanta Hawks basketball, Islanders hockey for a short time [Islander Goal! Islander Goal! had the same delivery and cadence as Yankees Win! Yankees Win!] and a bunch more as well. I was first aware when he did a sports talk show on WMCA in NYC (570) where he played the role of the acerbic host in the days prior to 24 hrs/day sports stations.
  9. Denver actually has more hours/year of sunshine than any other big city in this country. It's just very ... changeable. It can be 70+ as it was yesterday, then be 70+ again as is forecast for Fri/Sat, but drop into the '30s w/snow in between as is almost certain for tomorrow. So it's often clement.
  10. Now that we're down to one trip per year vs the Rox, it certainly seems like a while since we hit town in mid-summer.
  11. The all-important probables for the series. No, not he pitchers but the weather in this first week of May. Monday: around 60 for first pitch (6:40 local time) but showers possible starting around 9 PM Tuesday: rain all day with temps plummeting to the upper 30s by first pitch (6:40) Wednesday: the good news? 1:10 local time first pitch. Bad news? snow, high of 39 degrees
  12. I feel secure in saying that Soto wasn't going to catch that ball (2nd out of the 9th inning) nor was Nimmo. Benge starting to strut his stuff a bit more lately. So they win a series and have a winning record in May, so that's ... something.
  13. Run with this opportunity while it exists, Vientos, you never know when that window is going to close. Prove to the world that the back half of 2024 wasn't a fluke.
  14. If the channel carrying a particular team's games, usually meaning a regional cable outlet rather than just old fashioned over-the-air TV, is available, or potentially available, in a particular area then that area gets blacked via mlb.tv in that region. The idea is to 'protect' that channel (several of which have been on the brink of insolvency lately) by not giving potential subscribers a work-around to paying for the service. So, for example, a western Pennsylvanian fan can't get Pirates games via MLB.tv because he/she can get them through the Pirates channel. But if that same person is in an area that also has access to the Ohio sports channels then Reds & Guardians games might also be blocked.
  15. Well he would have had the next six weeks or so of more or less everyday play, so that's out the window now. He wasn't going to 'win' the SS job no matter what he did, of course, but it would have been his steadiest playing time in the big leagues to date so it was important to him. Now I guess this means Bichette to SS, Baty is now back to being the more or less everyday 3B, while Vientos mans 1B most days. So now those two have a shot to prove they deserve more.
  16. Dove head-first into 1st base and jammed it into the bag. Nornally not a good move, of course, but in this case it was both him and the 1B-man diving simultaneously so it wound up being (after a replay review) the only way he'd have been safe. It loaded the bases w/one out in the 7th. Unfortunately it was also the last hit they got for the night.
  17. To the IL, obviously. Six weeks is the given time frame.
  18. The Mets have now lost six of seven Nolan McLean starts this year despite him giving up 15 runs (13 earned) in 39.1 innings. This is a problem.
  19. Mets have been shut out three times in seven ghost runner innings this season.
  20. For a team that's DFL in the entire major leagues in OBA [.290] the Mets have hit into a shit-ton of GiDPs (7th of 30 teams) ... and they've hit into their share of line-drive DPs too so far.
  21. Q: Do you want to pitch to Trout or any other player who ever played for the Angels ever? A: Not Trout And so it's on to the clown car rules.
  22. Christopher Walken hangs around in bars giving pick-up advice to folks 1/3 his age.
  23. Gary mentions "finger" as the injured body part. Meanwhile, eight straight NYM batters have gone down in a row.
  24. That's five very disappointing ABs in a row beginning with the bases loaded/one out following the Mauricio IF single.
  25. 78 pitches thru 4, but more importantly, two of those four frames (1st & 4th) were 30+ pitches each and the 4th was a real slog.
