  1. The fan/media reaction has a lot to do with the huge contract and that he has no previous track record with the Mets to fall back on. Remember that Pete also didn't run out his off-the-wall hit earlier in that same game and got his ass thrown out at 2nd, but there hasn't been a peep about his lack of hustle.
  2. Aroldis Chapman in for the 9th Not that it matters. They couldn't hit Tracy Chapman right now.
  3. Keith: Mets need a baserunner Me: What the fuck good is that going to do?
  4. The Mets have been out-HR'd 8-1 starting with last Mondy's game vs Pitt Baty has their last HR, a week ago today.
  5. Three straight ABs with a RiSP [2nd, then 3rd, then 3rd] ... and not a single ball leaves the IF
  6. Finally we get an extra base hit off the Wall. One out of three so far in the series.
  7. This Jarren Duran guy has a good bat and real good speed. But he's also got three OF errors already this year and had a league leading five last year. It would be a crying shame if none of the Red Sox broadcasters made a 'Hands of Stone' reference at some point.
  8. Oh-fer-two w/RiSP and they can't even get the outs in the right order.
  9. It might have been "right down the middle", Walker, but it was borderline low so your reaction was way out of whack.
  10. As the throw was coming in I'm thinking, 'WTF Brandon, you're air-mailing the cut-off man with no shot at getting the run ... Great Throw, dude!'
  11. Well, they got a ball out of the infield. Just one and it took until the 8th hitter and it wasn't a hit ... but I'm going to call it progress.
  12. A) I didn't know that Madden was still actively writing If he was I probably could have guessed that he's still taking dictation straight from the Yanx front office
  13. Michael Kay is floating the idea -- no wait, the Fact! -- that Soto is deeply unhappy as a Met and that he wanted all along to re-sign with the Yanx but that his family was so taken by Steve and Alex Cohen that they pressured him into Queens rather than the Bronx. Take all that however you wish.
  14. Was there any doubt that it would end any other way? And, yes, the two run bottom 1st WAS an insurmountable lead.
  15. Taylor, given a second chance (though with only a runner on 1st & 2 out) comes through. Now Lindor's gets a second crack at it. Result: ?????? Not a lot of drama there, eh?
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: Our (lack of) clutch hitting prowess continues! 1st & 2nd no one out. Result: 5-6-3 GiDP
  17. Our (lack of) clutch hitting prowess continues! 1st & 3rd, 1 out. Result: K, K
  18. It's not just the accuracy of his throws, it's the timing of them too. That flip was obviously too high but it was also way too late.
  19. =Centerfield post_id=193176 time=1747696629 user_id=65] The fact that anyone talks about his gambling as his crime is crazy to me.
  20. With our NL East lead down to 0.5 G over Philly (15 W in their last 20) and the Braves now a game over .500 and just 5 G out, the schedule is not currently our friend. Cuz while the Mets have Boston and LAD on the agenda this week: - the Phils go to Denver for a four game set starting tonight - the Braves are in the Nation's Capital starting Tuesday after winning four of five against them last week in Atlanta
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Nice Twelve Angry Men reference from Darling. Yes, I enjoyed that reference. But then Gary drops the ball by noting that pitcher Dobbins is a former HS QB from Texas but failing to note that he was in the process of pitching to Baty, another Lone Star HS QB
  22. =kcmets post_id=193166 time=1747695788 user_id=53] What channel is this game on?
  23. I've lost track (not sure I ever knew) of exactly who is on these veterans committees these days (even though they're not called Veterans Committees anymore). The thing about them is that they're much smaller than the BBWAA roster of hundreds so a like-minded bloc* has a much better chance of swinging the vote their way. But that fact cuts both ways so it could work either for or against Rose and there is, or at least was, a lot of ex-player sentiment against his HoF inclusion. * Longtime teammate Yogi, longtime broadcast partner Bill White, and NYC SS contemporary Pee Wee Reese were installed temporarily -- Reese may have already been on the committee already but Yogi and White I believe were 'One and Done' -- and seemingly (more like blatantly) for the sole purpose of voting Phil Rizzuto into the HoF. And it obviously worked. Yogi's post-vote phone call to Phil was, "We got you in!" Yes, Yogi, you and your/his buddies certainly did.
  24. I'm 0-2 w/IGTs so far this year so I'm playing the role of 'slump buster' which will only work if NYM bats can figure out a way to bust out of all of their collective slumps. They've relied on the bats of Lindor and Alonso for most of the season while everyone else was sub-par and/or inconsistent. But now that Fransisco and Pete are scuffling themselves for the past week or so the RS average is around 3/G lately. And we get a rookie pitcher to face: Hunter Dobbins, R/R (not sure why I insist on listing his batting side), 25 y/o, 6' 2"/185, 8th round pick in 2021 out of Texas Tech. This will be his sixth start after making his ML debut in early April: 2-1, 3.90, 1.30 WHiP. 32 hits in 27.2 innings but just 4 walks. Has so far faced StL, CHW, MIN, KCR, DET Kodai Senga goes for the good guys. Oh, and remember that this game is scheduled for a 6:45 EDT first pitch The Red Sox are currently in 2nd place AL East despite a below .500 record of 23-25 after losing two of three to the Braves over the weekend. With 234 RS and 226 RA they score at a rate of about 1/2 per game over ML average but are worse than avg at allowing runs by nearly the same gap (0.36 R/G)
  25. The one I've heard most often is 'Bulk Reliever' since he's expected to handle at least a plurality of the remaining innings even if not a statistical majority of them. The only time 'bulk reliever' doesn't work is when it's going to be a true 'bullpen' game where the manager plans to massage six or seven different arms hoping that each can nail down somewhere in the neighborhood of three to five outs as the innings and matchup situations dictate.
