  1. I remember that the Braves of that era getting special permission to wear white on the road.
  2. btw, Pedro-dos will have surgery (or maybe already has) and has been ruled out for the entirety of next season. That will make it 12 years across two continents plus at least five organizations and the dude still hasn't thrown a pitch in any other ML uniform but the NYM. Now all we need is for FA-compensation pick Michael Fullmer to work out down the road and it'll be a triple-happiness situation. So which interviewer was it who was trying real hard during ST to get Alderson to admit he made a mistake by not re-upping P.F.?
  3. Braun's last three games: 8 for 13 including 3 HRs
  4. Phils lose the Sunday nighter to the Cards. Now have to run the table to beat the 108-win mark or go 10-1 to tie. Yeah, I don't think so.
  5. The NL WC race is suddenly getting warmer. Our weekend with the Braves helped to whittle their WC lead to 3.5 over streaking StL, and 4.0 over streaking SF. Also, they can't be happy about the Cards' seemingly soft schedule. Braves (9): at Florida for 3 -- at Wash for 3 -- Phillies for 3 Cards (10) and winners of 9 of their last 10: one more at Philly (and Holliday) -- 3 with Mets -- 3 with Cubs -- 3 at Houston Giants (9) and winners of 8 straight: 3 at Dodgers -- [u:1dhsvyq1]3 at Arizona[/u:1dhsvyq1] -- 3 with Rockies DBacks (9): All home Pitt for 3 -- Giants for 3 -- Dodgers for 3 Still sitting in a nice spot although their 5-game NL West lead over Giants was 9.5 a week ago and they do have a head-to-head coming up. So either we can lose to the Cards this week and throw a wrench into the Braves plans, or kick some Cardinal hiney and end their season.
  6. Yanx magic number for clinching [u:290v4tt4]a post-season spot[/u:290v4tt4] (not the division, but just a guaranteed slot) is 5 Taking just 2 of 7 from Tampa would be 4 right there which is why the Rays need to grab at least six and still hope for help. The only good part is that the Rays & Sox don't play each other so there are no automatic "win days" for NYY.
  7. Well Tampa did what they needed to do by taking 3 of 4 from the Sawx. Now sit just 2.0 games out of the WC. Yanx spent the weekend losing 2 of 3 to Toronto - sit 4.5 up on Boston & 6.5 up on TB. Angels & Texas both won on Sunday. Rangers lead remains 4.5. Angels just 3.0 back in the WC [u:110iv18m]Remaining skeds[/u:110iv18m] Boston (10): Balt for 4 -- at Yanx for 3 -- at Balt for 3 Tampa (10): at Yanx for 4 -- Blue Jays for 3 -- Yanx for 3 Yanx (11): makeup w/Minnesota -- Rays for 4 -- BoSox for 3 -- at Tampa for 3 Angels (10): at Toronto for 4 -- As for 3 -- Rangers for 3 Rangers (9): at Oakland for 3 -- Mariners for 3 -- at Angels for 3 Rays will likely have to take at least 6 of 7 vs Yanx to make things real interesting, but they've won 8 of their last 11 so that's not out of the question. They're 5-6 against Yanx this year. Could be a fun week.
  8. Sensible move. After a bit of a rough start he's been as reliable as one can get in that sort of specialized situation.
  9. Edgy DC wrote: Strange game. They half gave it to us, but we had the wherewithal to take it. And we half handed it back. Just not all the way.
  10. The Prado wears Devil (horns, that is, as he makes the last out)
  11. That's at least the third Bang-Bang call at 1st and we haven't gotten any of them. Deserved at least one.
  12. Heyward has three hits today and all of them are pieces de shit.
  13. EFF You Kimbrel !!
  14. I figured a Mets/Braves game in September needs an IGT ... even when one team is out of it, and even during a depressing losing streak, and even on a football Sunday. * Gee got down 1-0 - on an RBI hit by Chipper natch. * Beachy, hurling for 'Lanta, was striking out a ton but the Mets touched him for 4 in the 4th anyway. They IW'd Turner hitting 8th to load the bases w/2 outs ... then UNintentionally walked Gee for one run before Tejada sent 'em all home with a double. * Then the NYM defense decided to give some back as questionable plays by Turner, Tejada, and Pridie in CF (only Pridie's was an error) followed an Alex Gonzalez HR and helped re-tie the game. 4-4 Top 5 - although as I type this a couple of singles tacked on to a high pitch-count just chased Beachy.
  15. Our entire roster consists of incompetent bunters!!
  16. Reyes - SS Pagan - CF Wright - 3B Duda - RF Bay - LF Evans - 1B Thole - C Tejada - 2B Dickey - P Runless and hitless through 2 Bourne - CF Prado - LF Jones - 3B Uggla - 2B McCann - C Freeman - 1B Gonzalez - SS Heyward - RF Hudson - P Runless with one hit & one walk thru 2
  17. In news totally unrelated to any pennant chases, the Astros just lost their 100th game of the year - marking the first time they had ever lost 100 in one season in this their 50th season in MLB. Their previous worst was 97 losses (several times). They've won 100 games just once - 102 in 1998 - and won three post-season series. Their cumulative record sits at 82 games under .500 (.495) Definitely a more stable history than that of their birth partner.
  18. The judges are going to allow that -- (Teheran isn't spelled correctly either).
  19. - Tigers clinch Central with road win in Oakland - Boston pulls one out against Tampa putting their WC lead back to 4.0 games - 6.0 over Anaheim who lost in Baltimore. Also pulled back to 3.5 behind Yanx who (heh, heh) lost on a walk-off hit by Jose Molina in the 9th after the Jays had tried to hand the game away by leaving the bases loaded in both the 6th & the 8th. Sabathia wasn't sharp and failed to win #20 again. - Texas got shut-out by Seattle (a 4-hitter by something named Blake Beaven) keeping their lead over LAA at 3.5 games.
  20. Phils nearly pulled out a win last night as Ryan Howard's PH, 2-out, 9th inning double (just barely safe) was followed by the 3rd out being dropped in RF by Corey Patterson for a game-tying two-bagger. Cards won in the 11th after a rookie getting his 2nd ML AB (Adron Chambers) singled following an IW to Pujols [right move obviously if you're the Phils, just the wrong result] Phils now have to finish out with 12-1 streak to reach 109 wins, or 11-2 to tie the '86ers mark.
  21. Yes, world capitals specifically. So Daryl Boston would not be invited to this rather exclusive club.

  24. Cappy puts two rabbits on base to start the bottom of the 5th then K's all the boppers to keep them from scoring. (he was helped by the fact that one of the burners missed 1st base, but that's a minor issue and one I would have sworn would be made by the team in black and gray instead)
  25. The Cards are playing the Phils this weekend making Atlanta fans temporary Philly fans
