  1. The steel death-cage match for 3rd place is on (and to stay away from the last-place Marlins). So let's see now: - they're going with a guy making his 3rd ML start (2nd against NYM) -- Tom Milone - we're going with someone making his 2nd ML start -- Chris Schwinden I think the fact that the Mets have spent the last 27 innings racking up an impressive 4 runs on 18 hits (16 of them singles*, 11 of them in one game) against rookies, near-rookies, and re-hab cases indicates that we're the ones that are going to have trouble taking advantage so watch/follow at your peril. If you have known health risks please consult your physician before tuning in. If the game lasts for more than four hours please consult a professional (a professional what I don't really care, just as long as he/she is a professional). * those two non-singles were, of course, nothing more than doubles: Pagan's soft bloop over 1B on Monday which accounted for all the runs in that game, and Turner's boomer into the gap on the second pitch he saw PH-ing last night ... after which he was rewarded by being asked to bunt down by two runs with shit coming up after him.
  2. And now two attempts at small ball later (neither one of which even reached the mound) and we still need a fucking XBH just to tie the fucking game.
  3. You'd think that 567 poor bunts in a row might start to send a message sooner or later. I don't like that play EVEN IF THE FUCKING THING WORKS!!! - and the odds of it working are somewhere around the single digit pct area!!
  4. You gotta be kidding me with this bunt?!?!?!!?
  5. So whose turn is it to leave these runners on? ... aka: who's due up?

  8. 3rd game in a row I'm using this phrase: FUCKING PATHETIC!! What do we have so far, like 25 pop-ups?
  9. Hey, six innings, 25 batters, and the offense has produced 3 dinky singles off a ML debut and the long-man out of the pen. The sad part is that's practically an improvement.
  10. Are we allowed to get two-out hits too? ... Guess not.

Up to two un-earned so far and it's only the top of the 3rd I've felt like that all year. I did a little rsearch a couple of weeks ago of errors->unearned runs and didn't find and real big correlation. I'm referring mostly to the games just recently. In the long run stuff like that tends to even out (even though fans always think their team is snake-bitten most often) but the low-scoring close games we've been playing lately definitely makes the E's stand out more. Besides, I'm mostly just venting.

  13. I'd like it if the teams in our division got more National League games, but I think that ship has sailed in the minds of Bud and MLB.

Abreu has 21 SBs this season against only 4 caught - so, yeah, he probably will, particularly if he keeps playing for Scoscia who lets his guys run wild (sometimes foolishly so IMO but that's a separate discussion). Mets in the running: Jose Reyes: 79/366 David Wright: 181/149 Carlos Beltran: 298/293 Mike Cameron: 278/298 None looking like great bets. Reyes has probably the best chance of the lot. Cameron definitely no. I'd be shocked if Beltran has 100+ steals left in his game. Can't see Wright getting the necessary 150 steals either as he's the slowest guy on this list so is least likely to keep stealing into his 30s. Reyes needs to be in a different stadium to get another 121 HRs so let's not tell him about this list.

  19. Molitor is indeed the missing HoFer And I certainly wouldn't have guessed that Molitor stole twice as many bases as Larry Walker. 22. Boston temporarily rights its ship and gets Tim Wakefield his #200th win (on about his 8th or 9th try). Combined with the first TB loss in about a week puts the Sawx up in the WC hunt by 4.0 and 5.5 games over TB and the LA Angels
