  1. His smoking technique looks a bit better than his juggling. I'm betting that those balls didn't stay airborne for much longer than it took to snap the photo. The stadium -- 'New Comiskey' or about three or four corporate names since -- represents another oddity in ChiSox history. The last ML stadium built prior to Camden Yards, it wound up being stuck in an area that was neither modern/new nor retro/old. The story was that they were offered a design by the folks who later built Camden but Reinsdorf wasn't interested.
  2. Tampa won Thursday night on a walk-off 2-RBI infield grounder to 2nd. - Phils are in Pittsburgh for the weekend - Braves are in San Fran - the Nats, who are currently 1.5 games ahead of the Braves, host the Rangers
  3. THat's always the trick with prospects, knowing which ones to trade and, maybe more importantly, which ones not to. oe: although, while looking up Matt Allan, I'm not sure that story holds water. Allan was drafted in the 3rd round in 2019 and made the back half of the Top-100 prospects lists prior to 2021 despite not playing in 2020. Problem was, he didn't play in '21 either, or '22, or '23, or '24. So what happened to this guy and why would you put an 'untouchable' label on someone who hadn't pitched in a year and a half by the time of the Baez deal in August of '21? He has now reappeared, splitting 10G/9 starts combined for Brooklyn and Port St Lucie, but only for a total of 19 innings. PC-A was their 1st round pick the next year in that truncated 2020 draft but between the missed Covid year and a late start in Low-A in '21, he had racked up just 32 total official plate appearances when he was dealt away. I write that trade off to the front office still being run by 'Make-a-Splash Steve' and not yet by Stearns or some other more longer-term thinking PoBO If you really thought enough of a guy to draft him 19th overall, it's kind of irresponsible to deal him away despite such a small trial run. But he was adopting the 'Don't just stand there, Do Something!' approach with a first place team. Plus it made Lindor and Diaz happy to have their friend and countryman with them so maybe keeping the main cogs in the labor force happy played into that decision as well.
  4. Jordan was so bad as owner for the Charlotte Hornets that even his fanboys over at ESPN were forced to say so (in a very quiet voice of course). Only Charles Barkley said so out loud (cuz Charles says everything out loud) and, as a result, those two one-time friends are no longer on speaking terms. More recently Michael is owner of a team in the NASCAR circuit. If I were a ChiSox fan I'd certainly be happy that he's not in the mix.
  5. So Reinsdorf says: 'when I sell the team I'll sell my shares to you, but only at a time of my choosing'. But starting in 2033 this Ishbia guy can essentially force the by-then 97 year old Reinsdorf to sell. It's different than that stillborn Wilpon/Cohen arrangement, but almost as weird.
  6. And you were right because you're wrong -- no I'm not. I drew no conclusions, made no inferences except that those numbers happened TODAY and they had an effect on the game because, of course they did! If you don't like comments in an IGT about the game being played or just played then you're kind of in the wrong place. Always whining, eight times a game, even in blowout Mets wins, about the runners who were LOB -- BULLSHIT. RiSP and LOB numbers matter but only in context. If you score a lot it means you got many runners on which in turn increases the chance to leave more on. But leaving a dozen runners on base is a game where you score ten is completely different from leaving a dozen on when you score one or two. THAT'S when I bring it up, when it mattered in the game.

  8. So longtime CHW owner Jerry Reinsdorf has reached an agreement with Justin Ishbia, but the timing of the sale is up in the air as is the part about who decides and when. The CHW press release (from earlier today) states: “The agreement provides that, from 2029-2033, Reinsdorf will have the option to sell the controlling interest to Ishbia ... After the 2034 season, Ishbia will have the option to acquire the controlling interest. In the event of any such future transaction, all limited partners of the Sox would have the opportunity to sell to Ishbia at that time.” So, if I'm understanding this correctly: no sale in the next four years; then Reinsdorf decides when and if for the following five years; then, starting in 2033, Ishbia gains the power to trigger the transaction. Minority partners can also choose to sell their shares to Ishbia but he'll have Reinsdorf's controlling interest whether they do or not. Reinsdorf, 89, has been the principal owner since 1981. Ishbia is a part owner of the NBA's Phoenix Suns (his older brother Mat is majority owner), the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, MLS's Nashville SC, and of the White Sox
  9. NYM: 2/10 w/RiSP (and only one scored a run), 13 LOBsters LAD: 3/10 w/RiSP, 6 LOB Lecture on how hitting w/RiSP isn't predictive coming up soon.
  10. I guess they didn't need one.
  11. The Dodgers who no one to hit for Conforto?
  12. Inventing ways to not score and inventing ways to not get outs. I think Baty was afraid of throwing the ball too early so that was the cause of the double clutch. Then, when the runner didn't stop and/or reverse course, he rushed the throw and short-hopped Alvarez.
  13. =Cowtipper post_id=194611 time=1749160369 user_id=166] Wait a minute, that Urena fella was a Met earlier this year!
  14. And then there's the Phils and their Jesus Lazardo problem. Today he pitched 2-1/3 innings (vs TOR) and allowed 8 Runs (all earned) on 9 hits, 2 BB, 1 HR and while it would be easy to just say 'Bad Day' it was actually an improvement on his last start on May 31 vs MIL, Lazardo got hung with 12 Earned on 12 Hit, 3BB, 2 HRs in just 3-1/3 So added together that 20 R, 21 H, 5 BB, 3 HRs in 5-2/3 innings, or a 31.76 ERA Prior to this past week Luzardo was having a pretty good season. But now, in just two starts/< six innings, his season's ERA has jumped from 2.38 to 4.46 Jesus wept, indeed.
  15. The HRs are nice, dudes, but now you're back to inventing ways to not score.
  16. Gary mentioned this earlier so I had to look up the details. The Braves, at home, were up on the DBacks 6-0 (after 3), 9-3 (6), and then 10-4 after 8. Then came the top 9th: K, HR (now 10 - 5), BB (takes 2nd on indifference), HR (10-7), BB **out goes Scott Blewett, in comes closer Raisel Iglesies to put an end to the rally ** (or maybe not): 2B, IF 1B (10-8), PO-6, 1B (10-9), 2-RBI 2B (11-10 ARZ), BB, Line-out to CF In bottom 9 the Braves got a 1-out BB to bring up Marcel Ozuna as the winning run .... and he grounded into a Double Play, Thank You and please arrive home safely.
  17. Josh Satin was with David Wright at the game last night.

  19. Four NYM hits thru 7, two of them responsible for 5 of the 6 runs.
  20. Phils and Braves both lose today. If the Mets hold on to their lead tonight they'll go 1/5 and 11.0 games ahed of those two.
  21. Yeah, go ahead and walk Soto a few more times.

They're not so early as to ruin the th suspense. But Gary is beating the ump to the call by the smallest fraction of a second which gives the impression that things are not quite synched up.
