  1. Marlins vis 2-HRs from Hanley hold on to beat Phils 5-4 Nats behind Strasberg for 7 IP shut-out Braves 2-0 So we get no closer to 1st place although the division gets a bit less scrunched up.
  2. This OQ guy can play hisself a bit of SS, eh?

  4. Last year we'd go weeks it seemed between RCF shots like that (HRs or almost) from Wright. This year it seems like we're getting two per game.
  5. Hey, you know all those Ramirez-es look alike.
  6. Bullpen? ... BULLPEN? We don't need no stinkin' bullpen.
  7. I'm going with honest mistake. Seaver, by his own admission, follows baseball these days only through box scores and has always been a bit of a me-centered dude anyway. I suspect that unless you're related to him, played in his era, or are part of his current circle, he probably doesn't know/remember your name.
  8. Remember the other thing Gary said about that Wright statement: that it's the right thing to say even if it's not true because it gets everyone to stop asking all the time. IOW, I don't think this tilts the final 'will he or won't he?' decision even an inch one way or the other.
  9. Not exactly smacking 'em off the walls for our runs today are we?

I thought Duke was going under the knife, but it sure didn't sound like Lewin or Ed Coleman or Jiggs McDonald or Juan Berroa or anybody. Yeah, that was Duquette. Lewin was off for some reason or another.
  11. Runs Scored - Met Career Jose Reyes - 735 ** David Wright - 733 ** Darryl Strawberry - 662 Howard Johnson - 627 Edgardo Alfonzo - 614 Mookie Wilson - 592 Cleon Jones - 563 Carlos Beltran - 551 Ed Kranepool - 536 Mike Piazza - 532

Al Leiter & AJ Burnett were dealt for each other but only after Leiter had already thrown his. My initial thought was Rick Wise and Steve Carlton but it turns out that Carlton never had one and Wise's was prior to that high-profile swap. And there's obviously a bunch of names where I have no idea of their trade histories but I'll leave that research up to Tim Kurkjian.
  13. Gwreck wrote: I was so pleasantly surprised to see how everybody in the crowd got it. The only odd thing - as least as viewed thru TV - was that the ovation for Santana when he came up to bat in the 7th seemed more tepid than one would expect for a pitcher working on a no-hitter. As it turned out, the big 7th inning netted him an 8th inning AB too so the fans had their second chance and, that time, did make the most of it. I also was among those who also never minded the lack of a No-No. Not that I wanted it NOT to happen -- I was at the Gooden/Knight game and have lived and died with more than a few of these going back to Jimmy Qualls -- but I was certainly never embarrassed over that particular hole in the resume so to speak and even kind of enjoyed the quirk from time to time. But it's really cool to finally have one of these come through.
  14. Santana - 6.0 Duda - 1.7 Baxter - 0.4 Murphy - 0.8 Wright - 0.6 Nieuwenhuis - 0.5
  15. Gee - 3.2 Murphy - 0.5 Duda - 2.4 Wright - 0.5 Hairston - 0.5
  16. Hell, even SportsCenter led with it. My guesses for their lead story instead of baseball included: - tonight's hoops game - last night's hoops game - tomorrow night's hoops game - something involving Tim Tebow - something involving Peyton - Rex Ryan's diet - Ochocinco's latest tweet But wait, the dopes at the Four-Letter Network don't disappoint after all. They throw in the tidbit that the only previous NYM no-hitters carried into the 9th were all done by their ace of yesteryear ... Steve Carlton. No, I'm not kidding.
  17. Partly lost in the shuffle -- this was Johan's 2nd consecutive complete game shutout. And those come in his 10th & 11th games after sitting out for more than a year.

  19. I don't think he plays that one any differently in a normal game situation.

  21. One oddity is that this game didn't have the feel of even an early in-progress no-hitter because of all those early walks and deep counts. I was aware that the Mets were hitless before I was aware that the Cards still were too.
  22. Why yes, now that you mention it, this does call for a vodka.
  23. Chad Ochoseis wrote: OK, who was that guy who voted after the game ended? Unfortunately you can only limit these polls in 24 hour segments. For this one I needed like a 30 minute time limit. 23 hours from now the vote will probably be 76 - 3 - 0 - 0
