  1. Nice of Pettitte to finally decide that he's OK. I've seen opera intermissions that weren't that long.
  2. They've got to quit giving away the few base-runners that are managing to get on. You can't go on Pettite's first move because he'll just change to a second move in mid-stream. And hoping that he'll be called for a balk is silly because he's been called for like one since sometime around Eisenhower's first term. It's simply not going to happen.
  3. Between Bay & Wright stranding those add-on runs and Niese's habit of allowing lead-off batters on each inning, I'm not as happy as I should be with a three-zip lead.
  4. Nice opportunity to sit Ike against the lefty. and Terry agrees: Torres - CF Bay - LF Wright - 3B Hairston - RF Duda - DH Rottino - 1B Quintanilla - SS Nickeas - C Valdespin - 2B Mets are 5-8 facing Pettitte over the 19 starts he's made against them since 1997 (5 w/Houston) The only change in the Yanqui lineup (because there are never really any changes in their lineup) is Jayson Nix at SS w/Jeter DHing keeping LHBs like Ibanez & Chavez out against Niese

  6. Anyone else hear that stat from earlier - that the Yanx have lost every game this season in which they did not HR? Even I'm surprised at that one. Most of them sure, but ALL?
  7. 'Death Valley' my ass!
  8. That was an all-around better AB from Ike. He suddenly didn't look lost. Yeah, I know, it's just one, but it's a start.
  9. Lefty Specialist wrote: Did Swisher really climb the wall on Q's homer? He only missed catching it by, oh, 150 feet. Don't exaggerate. He was well within 80 feet.
  10. NOW they show the replay of Jeter's sweep tag missing Nieuwenhuis on his SB in the 1st?!? It's amazing how often he gets away with that.
  11. bmfc1 wrote: Matt V says "Carlos Beltran" instead of "Carlos Beltran." Is this a real broadcast or a run through? It's gotten so bad that they've got you doing it.
  12. Lefty Specialist wrote: I'm betting Gee takes a jackhammer with him next inning to work on that mound. Can't do that! The Yanqui stadium infield is the greatest infield in the history of infields. It's true, just ask the Yanquis themselves, they'll tell you.

I'm afraid it's much more obscure than that. Obscure even to the point where I never should have brought it up but I have this over-active associative process that I can't always shut off and, hell, if I can't share my crazy with you folks, who am I going to share it with? So the bottom line is, hearing Phil Hughes and Dillon Gee in the same sentence clicked my head over to the line from Nelson's song 'Garden Party' where he sang; Mr. Hughes hid in Dillon's shoes, wearing his disguise Of course it was originally Dylan's shoes, not Dillon's, but aurally the line works. Hughes, btw, in the song, apparently referred to George Harrison who was Nelson's friend and neighbor and often traveled under the alias of Mr. Hughes. 'HIding in Dylan's shoes' was a reference to Harrison's then-current attempt at working on a collection of Dylan cover songs, something he wound up never releasing.

Right, because if the Yanx get no-hit then it's obvious that the game can't mean anything. The two things I remember from that game: 1) that Roy Oswalt, then among MLB's top pitchers, got hurt after 1 inning and had to leave ... and I'm thinking; "the fucking Yanquis keep catching all the fucking breaks" 2) that Wagner finished it having no idea that he had just completed a no-hitter. He seemed very confused by what he thought was the over-the-top reaction to the win from his teammates.

South Carolina is currently the two-time defending WS champs. Oregon State pulled the double in 2006-2007 Other than those you have to go back a while to Oklahoma in '94 and Wichita State in 1989 So the answer to your question appears to be; Yes, but only on a token basis.
  16. Batista - 0.15 Rauch - 0.25 Quintanilla - 2.4 Duda - 1.2
  17. So can anyone guess why this pitching match up makes me think of Rickey Nelson?
  18. My old adage on games like these: if you're going to hit like shit and pitch like shit you might as well do them both on the same night. What suxx of course is that this looked on paper to be the best pitching match up for us.
  19. Freddie Garcia's grandfather died? I thought Freddie Garcia was a grandfather!
  20. Thank God for Qunintanilla because there's been nothing else even resembling a hit from the blue and orange except maybe that [crossout:1evj7s37]Wright[/crossout:1evj7s37] Murph's smash off the foot.
  21. btw, numbers of active Mets v Rookie Carroca coming into this game? Wright - 6 for 14 + 3 BBs Thole - 3 for 8 + 2 BBs Davis (the old one at least, not this current imposter) - 2 for 7 + 2 BBs and a HR Duda - 2 for 3 with a 2B ... and I don't think one of those guy has a friggin' ball out of the infield tonight.
  22. Well Shit, if you're just going to put him on so easily like that you should have just saved three pitches and plunked him with the first one.
  23. The only way this has Not been a typical Yanqui game is that it's the bottom of the 6th but not yet 10:30
  24. Nymr83 wrote: Were any of these the yankee little league homers to the short porch? Not even close.
  25. Mets Willets Point wrote: This is going to be the game everyone remembers as the time the Mets came back from a huge deficit and kicked some Yankees ass. In order to do that they might want to think about actually putting a ball in play. Going for the planetary strike-out record isn't going to get it done.
