  1. There are actually several rules depending on which catwalk--or "ring" as they call them--your pop fly hits.

Full time 3Bs and/or SSs are almost always going to lead your team in errors in a given year. It would be pretty odd circumstances for your 1st baseman to have more than your 3rd sacker and usually the sign of a real bad 1st-baseman although Ventura & Olerud wound up tied at 9 each in '99.

At least a couple of those bouncers are bound to sneak through the infield; we just have to figure out a way to group them into a couple of runs. Hopefully we can do all that before Maddon figures out to plant all seven of his spare fielders in the infield between 2nd & 3rd.

He's expected to start rehab outinigs and then hopefully back to the ML roster over the next few weeks. Brian Roberts made his first ML appearance in over a year last night (May 16, 2011). He singled in his first AB and went on to have three of Baltimore 15 hits against Pittsbugh

  7. I think it was the "Chin Up" comment in the subject heading that did it for us. So in honor ... [youtube:2x4q2dg2]qZBFNbr2blI[/youtube:2x4q2dg2]
  8. 11 is our high for the season. Of course we've surpassed that in runs allowed several times.
  9. Man this is turning into a long-ass game!
  10. Cesar Ramos pitching. Looks pretty good considering all those years playing the Joker on the old Batman series.

  12. Apparently there wasn't an enforceable clause but they did have a handshake agreement where Vlad could ask out at any time. I guess they had no room for him on the big club right now and he was too impatient to wait until they might.

  14. Nieuwenhuis much better able to see the ball against the ceiling now that the sun has set. Wait, what?!?
  15. So with nine outs to go and a seven run lead, I'm guessing this game is like a 50/50 toss-up, right?
  16. Y'know what I hate? ... when the game you're watching is in between innings and the other three you're monitoring are all in between innings at the same time. It happens more than you'd think is logical.
  17. Clearly a genius DH call by Terry. I knew it all along. But another thing, if Muffy is going to not hit HRs I'd like to see him quit striking out while doing so.
  18. The preliminary rounds were what just ended, those are for winners and wild cards in the various leagues throughout the country and are held at regional sites (home areas of the upper-ranked teams) in order to get down to the final eight. That's what Stony Brook just survived, beating several southern teams in a southern regional. The surviving eight advance to the College World Series, the final double-elimination tourney held every year in Omaha, Nebraska. That gets underway on Friday. Stony Brook is the first NYS team to make it to Omaha since St Johns in 1980. Kent State is the first from Ohio since 1970. The last team from the whole northeast was Maine in 1986.

  20. I simply solve the problem by not associating with any Yanqui fans.
  21. Bottom line is that these guys can pitch. Lowest ERA in the AL - although not quite in RA/G which implies perhaps a less than stellar defense. Their offense scores at a somewhat below average rate (plus they're minus Longoria) but we've usually got a bullpen that is capable of fluffing those numbers up a bit. And we'll have to check the late transactions list, but I suspect they will, like most other clubs, import 4 or 5 extra LHPs specifically for this series. They won't have to be good lefties. In fact, I'm not sure they need to even be real pitchers, just some peanut vendor who slings it from the port side will probably be good enough.
  22. "Certainly though it's a race against the clock to see if the bloom comes off Quintanilla's hitting rose and Tejada (or at least Cedeno?) returning." It's not like either one of those guys is a lock either.
  23. You have to admire a player like Luke Scott who is already preparing for his life after baseball. Yes, even though his current status puts him in a position where he probably has many productive years of baseball ahead of him, he realizes that it's never too early to begin cultivating the look he'll need to fulfill his dream. And that dream is apparently to run for public office ... in 1848!!
  24. You people do realize that Quintanilla is hitting .314/.442/.514 as a Met -- and that aside from turning Jeter's 80 foot roller into a double the other day (one AB after his 60 foot single) that he's been playing pretty good 'D' too, right? I mean, yeah it's a small sample size and I'd like to see Tejada back as much as anyone. But, for in the short term anyway, finding a stop-gap SS is way down on the list of priorities. Certainly it's behind getting the 'power positions' of 1B & LF to say maybe get a ball out of the infield more than once a week. I'd also slot it in back of finding a reliever with an ERA of less than 6.00
  25. 465th best New York Met - oddly falling just one spot behind Sammy Taylor
