  1. After holding the Mets to four runs in the recent three game series, the Pirates toss three consecutive shutouts against the (previously hot) Cardinals. Their RS/RA over their last six games is 43 - 4
  2. Braves hurler Spencer Schwellenbach to the IL with an elbow fracture. Out until at least September.
  3. So the team that needs to score (at least) six runs in the next two innings is the same one that has scored six in their last 34.
  4. Vientos since his return: 2-for-20 w/8 Ks
  5. =kcmets post_id=196852 time=1751476472 user_id=53] Weird, the crowd mics are drowning out the booth here.

  8. Apparently our strategy is to wear the starter out before making weak (or no) contact.

  10. Tampa loses to West Sacramento So it's Jays - 1.0 G to the Yanx and Rays -1.5 G heading into Wednesday
  11. Tigers @ Nats, Padres @ Phils both washed out tonight, and LAA @ Braves is delayed - so it's a whole east coast thing although Cincy @ Boston has at least started their game. Chris Sale (broken ribs) has been transferred to the 60-day IL so the Braves are looking towards late August at best before he takes the mound again.
  12. Andres Gimenez and George Springer are All-Canadian heroes today. Down 2-0 in the 4th to Max Fried, the Jays got a solo HR from Springer then added a Gimenez 3R HR to take a 4-2 lead. Yanx re-tie things at 4-4, you say? Hey, no problem, just dial up a 7th inning GS from cousin George to make it 9-4. [CROSSOUT]Still 10-4[/CROSSOUT] ... [CROSSOUT]now 10-4[/CROSSOUT] now 12-4 and counting (3+ hour game so far) as the Jays bat w/2 out in bottom 8. Springer = 7 RBI on the game The Yanx, btw, have the worst record in the AL East since May 28. Not by a lot, but they have lost ground to every team over the past five weeks.
  13. Why Thank You, Ben. I'm enthusiastic about you too. [FIMG=300]https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/h4Danx25bhtuorh7fZW8bJ-650-80.jpg.webp[/FIMG]
  14. - Wheeler (8 IP, 6 hits, 10 Ks) and pen shut out the Padres 4-0 Phils now 11-6 in their last 17 though end June at just 14-13, totally the opposite of the Mets who started the month 9-2 and finished 12-15 - Braves were off today, start a series tomorrow at home vs Angels - Jays score 4 in the 6th to come back on the Yanx 5-4 Looks like the Rays are going to go down to that team in West Sacramento so the Yanx will have teams 1/5 & 2.0 games behind them as business opens tomorrow. It'll be a day game in Toronto on Tuesday (3:00) on account of 7/1 being Canada Day
  15. And right now it involves (OF) Carson Benge and (P) Jonah Tong. Those two Binghamton Rumble Ponies will be representing the NL in the ASG-week Futures Game in Atlanta (Sat July 12, MLBN and mlb.tv)
  16. NYM OPS 740 -- Runs Scored 368 (4.329/G) MIL OPS 703 -- Runs Scored 397 (4.726/G -- one fewer game played) NYM OPS: Bases Empty 773 -- Men On 697 -- RiSP 687 MIL OPS: Bases Empty 679 -- Men On 732 -- RiSP 740 Sometimes it's all in the timing.
  17. I think what we need is a couple of things to be sacrificed. Blackburn: his beard Brazoban: his haircut Alvarez: his designer eye black Vientos: some of his swagger (it doesn't carry over from last season ... ya gotta earn it)
  18. We're playing semantics here. No one is arguing that 'clutch hitting' is something that certain players or teams do or do not "own", or that what happened last week is predictive of what will happen next week. But we can assess what has already happened and that's that this team has been lacking with timely hits for essentially the entire season and in doing so their output of runs scored has been far lower than what would normally be expected from the input. Compared to the six teams closest to them in OPS (the three just above them plus the three just below) the Mets are averaging nearly 2/3 RS/G lower than the average of those six, a rate that puts them more than 50 runs* fewer than expected for the season to date. * 43 fewer than the Yanx, -80 to Cubs, -64 to Tigers, -29 to Red Sox, -35 to Rays, -17 to Phils
  19. Clutch remains not a projectable thing. That doesn't make it non-existent. When a team is in the upper echelon [top 6] in OBP, OPS, SLG and yet middle of the pack in runs scored that points to consistently not getting hits as often at the right times or situations. The fact that, through more than half a season now, the team's OPS is 70 - 80 points lower runners on (in scoring position or otherwise) than it is with bases empty backs that up. With bases empty the collective team is bit better than this season's version of Francisco Lindor. With runners on they're somewhere between Brett Baty and Francisco Alvarez.
  20. All I know is it's good thing we didn't have to face Skenes in this series, otherwise we really might have been embarrassed.
  21. There will come a future day when I will have totally forgotten that Colin Poche was ever a NYM. That day may occur sometime later this week.
  22. Phils win 2-1, Rays lose, Yanx winning big. Looks like all my baseball plans went into the shitter today.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: But can Gary & Ron name the only player in MLB history whose name started with M - M? It's really an unfair question as he only had four ML games to his credit back in 1989. I just remember him because of the unusual name (IIRC it was said to be Turkish in origin) and because he was a Yanqui for those four games. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mmahake01.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mmahake01.shtml
