  1. =ashie62 post_id=198516 time=1752958504 user_id=90] Id like to see Vientos become esconced as the everyday 3B vs lefties and eighties
  2. The tying run is now in the on-deck circle. ... and now it's at the plate!! But it's Lindor ... and he never hits grand slams in meaningful situations.
  3. Mets are (once again) on the wrong side of the free pass ledger tonight: 7 BBs + 3 HBPs vs one walk So only a 10/1 ratio
  4. Phils lose to LAA 6-5 Yanx score 3 in the 7th but trail the Braves 7-3
  5. And the larger issue may be that we have two singles and one walk since the 1st inning solo (what a surprise!) HR
  6. For starters, the games for our re-start at home vs the Reds are at 7:10, 4:10, and 1:40 Other series of interest: - the first game to kick off the unofficial second half sees two hot teams meeting as the BoSox travel to Wrigley for an afternoon game on Friday. The only shocking part about this series is that it is NOT the SNB game (DET @ TEX). It will be the FOX Saturday night game however. - Phils host LAA (47-49) who have been better lately but are still the Angels so we can't really count on much help - the Yanx open in Atlanta. That the Braves are so far behind allows me to root for them over the next few days guilt-free - and some good matchups late at night for us east-coasters: MIL @ LAD; StL @ ARZ; HOU @ SEA
  7. You've certainly heard the name: he was the Mets team physician from 1991 - 2001, their medical director from 2005 - 2024, and a longtime member of the Hospital for Special Surgery and its long connection to NYM. He estimated last year that he had performed some 2,400 Tommy John surgeries* since his first one in 1993 and was partly responsible for updating and stream lining the original procedure that was invented by Frank Jobe. * Good lord that's ~75/year or 6 - 7 per month for three+ decades

  9. The 'Ghost Runner' is a perverted form of baseball. The 'Swing Off' is a clown show that merely uses a baseball. Both suck, but the first isn't even in the same stratosphere of sukkkkkk as the second.
  10. =Centerfield post_id=198351 time=1752686961 user_id=65] Ok so now what do we do for three days
  11. Yes. The starting eight were selected from fan voting -- except for a time when that was taken away due to ballot stuffing in certain cities (particularly Cincinnati) -- then the previous year's pennant winning manager (in consultation with whomever he cared to consult with) filled out the roster with reserves and the pitching staff. Once the internet age brought about the ability for a 14 y/o to voting a few thousand times a day, they've gone to a system where fan voting makes up part of what picks the starters.
  12. Wasn't Jared Porter the one who had a few too many shots ... and chasers?
  13. I believe the commercial break is currently in its 17th minute, although I could be off by a little. And, of course, we also have the first commercial for a college football game two months away.

Adam is one of those guys you turn around and see he's been in the league for a million years and ask, "has it been that long all ready?" No. He's one of those guys I see and go, "Who the fuck is he?"
  15. Jason Adam is an All-Star and he's also a guy I've never hear of. oe: so it turns out he's faced the Mets six times for a total of six innings, once in 2021 & '23, and then four times last year, twice each for SDP & TBR We hit him pretty good [6 ER in 6 IP] But I still don't remember him.
  16. Hey man, this Skubal guy suxxx! =Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=198285 time=1752626796 user_id=119] Wow. PCA flashing the leather!
  17. Never saw it. My aversion to all things Madonna-related started early.
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: So here's my first question from this draft: How did the White Sox, who had one of the worst MLB seasons EVER wind up with the 10th pick of the draft? The answer to the above question, btw, is that as a 'payor' club, one which gives out revenue sharing money rather than receives it, the White Sox are not allowed to draft higher than 10th in two consecutive seasons. iow, you can't be rich AND tank for draft picks at the same time. The ChiSox drafted 5th last year. I assume this means that their top pick in next year's draft will be slotted on merit which, at the moment, puts them better than only Colorado, 9.5 games better.
  19. =ashie62 post_id=198095 time=1752451243 user_id=90] I really really question taking a high school guy first. So far away from MLB.
  20. So here's my first question from this draft: How did the White Sox, who had one of the worst MLB seasons EVER wind up with the 10th pick of the draft? With a season that bad they should have been awarded the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th picks. But, instead, the Nationals, who previously struck oil like Jed Clampett when their back-to-back #1 overall picks were in years when all-time no-brainers Bryce Harper and Steven Strasburg were available, wind up here with the #1 overall although I'm not sure why. 1) Nats - Eli Willits, SS, Florida HS (still just 17 y/o) 2) Angels - Tyler Bremner, RHP UC Santa Barbara 3) Mariners: Kade Anderson, LHP, LSU 4) Rox: Ethan Holliday, SS/3B, Stillwater, OK HS* 5) Cards: Liam Doyle, LHP, U Tennessee 6) Pirates: Seth Hernandez, RHP, Corona HS, (CA) 7) Marlins: Avia Arquette, SS, Oregon State 8) Blue Jays: JoJo (he thought he was a woman) Parker, SS, Miss HS 9) Reds: Steele Hall, SS, Alabama HS 10) White Sox: Billy Carlson, SS, Corona HS (CA) (I'm betting that school had a pretty good team this past year) This is still going on but I won't. The first 105 picks (Rounds 1, 2, 3, plus the 'Competitive Balance' and compensation picks) will be made tonight. Due to the length and dollar amount of the Juan Soto FA contract, the Mets first pick will be in Round 14 of the 2037 draft (OK, it'll actually be picks 38 and 102) Rounds 4 thru 20 will be made tomorrow. * So expected history was NOT made by brothers both getting selected #1 overall in different drafts (Jackson was 1/1 by the O's in 2022). The record remains with BJ (#2 - 2002, TBR) and Justin Upton (#1 - 2005, ARZ) with honorable mention to Tom (6th overall, 1966) and (son) Ben Grieve (2nd, 1994)
  21. I love the totally unforeseen change of direction that this thread took.
  22. Well that was ultimately disappointing.
  23. Isbell just missed that 400' unit by McNeil.
  24. The Mets tried hitting into two GiDPs in the top 6th but the rules just don't allow it.
  25. Padres win 5-4 and take the series 2-1. Mets & Phils tied going into the final game prior to the ASG Lots have gone wrong this season but, let's face it, most of us would have signed up for this at the beginning of the year.
