  1. Local kid alert -- 29th round pick: Anthony Ray, LHP from Ward Melville HS out in East Setauket (L.I.) And if this sounds slightly familiar it may be because the Mets spent their top pick (#78 overall) four years ago for a LHP from the same town/same HS - Steven Matz And Matz is actually pitching regularly this season for the first time since injuring himself while signing his contract. Results have been mixed: 10 starts, 2-3, 3.22, 1.30 WHiP at Savannah, but it's a (re)beginning.

  3. batmagadanleadoff wrote: If the "fire everybody" rants are gonna need to be staved off, this move won't do it, Gee, and I was so adamant that this move WOULD do it. Maybe I should have stated up front that obviously this team was NOT one move away and instead was just interested in finding out what folks here thought should be the top priority ... Oh wait.
  4. And it looks like my rant cross-posted with actual news that makes it rather moot at this point (or 'Mute' as posters on a much sillier board used to say) but feel free to add yours anyway even if mine is now old news.
  5. Suggest ONE move that, in your view, needs to be done prior to Tuesday's game in order to help this team. Not that anyone thinks this team is one move away, but in order to stave off all the FIRE EVERYBODY!!! rants, which were certainly the first thing to pop into my mind this afternoon, prioritize your anger to suggest where you think they should start and hopefully add in a logical explanation behind it. * I'm for sending down Ike in favor of whatever warm body they can drag up here. I don't care said person swings Right, Lefty, or somewhere in between; if he's in AAA, in AA or lower than that, if he can be put on the 40-man without any loss of precious cargo then get him on a plane NOW!!!! and give Davis two tickets and a pair o' dice (see what I did there ... cuz he's going to Vegas?). I generally hate the over-used 'He couldn't be any worse' expression but in this case it fits as Ike at this point would have to improve greatly just to get UP to where he's utterly useless. It's one thing to be a hole in the lineup in April but it's mid-June at this point and he ain't looking any better.
  6. I don't know what Redmond is bunting for; the hits to outs ratio against our relievers today is like 6-to-1
  7. Same Shit!: BB - K - K - K I can't remember the last fair ball to leave the infield much less be an actual hit
  8. Not only can't Baxter hit LHPs, he can't even bunt against them.
  9. And Ozuna's avg against the Mets plummets to .987 as he ends the 9th on a grounder. The Mets now have a chance to put this away without the Fish ever getting up again so our win-odds just jumped to 21%
  10. 15% was obviously way too optimistic. That my TV signal is breaking up right now might be a good thing overall.
  11. Nice to see that, after the three run inning, they've settled back into their groove from yesterday. Not only no hits in a while but every out is a piece 'o shit pop-up or weak grounder. The home team should have about a 60% chance at winning this type of game which is why I put our chances at about 15%
  12. Saturday's long-game crimes: Sox & Angels played a split DH at Fenway due to Friday's rain out Game 1 winds up 9-5 Angels and takes Four Hours even Yeah that's a lot of runs and a bunch of hits (26) but, still, whatdafuck you guys doing over there? I kept switching over to that game during breaks in ours and when Mets/Marlins were already into extras they were still in the 7th or 8th in Boston despite the same start time. Game 2 was 7-3 Sox so they only needed 8-1/2 innings and had a bit less offense so they were able to get things in in a swift 3:35 That's 7:35 for two 9-inning games.
  13. Prior to Wright's 2B, I was thinking the the last time I had seen stats on this sort of thing, the average number of runs scored starting from a bases-loaded/no-out situation was around 2.5 (might be a bit lower than that now due to the current lower-scoring era). Then I pondered where I'd put the Over/Under on this NYM team in that same situation even with the middle of the order due up. I was thinking about 0.7 or something and the Valdespoin pop-up certainly didn't help dissuade me from that. But then just as I started to type Dabid smacked the ball into the gap for the first REAL RiSP hit of the weekend (Quintanilla's bunt technically was but, y'know) and we wound up beating the odds with a three-spot.
  14. Record for most consecutive days putting multiple in-game posts in non-IGT threads? ... EdgyMD, Two
  15. Looking at the P-b-P data from yesterday [u:7upjpxsg]just for the potential game-winning ABs[/u:7upjpxsg] --9th inning or later with a runner on 2nd and/or 3rd-- IOW: without even getting into the times where an extra-base hit or, obviously, a HR would win the game, just those where maybe only a single or, in some cases, a good enough out would win the game. 9th inning -- K, BB, GO 10th -- Foul Out 12th -- Fly Out, Fly Out/DP 13th -- Foul Out, K 14th -- Ground Out 15th -- K, K 17th -- Fly Out, Pop-Out, K 18th -- K, Foul Out So not only is that 0-15 (plus a walk) w/RiSP ABs [u:7upjpxsg]just in game-winning situations alone[/u:7upjpxsg] (they were 0-19 overall) but only three times did they even manage to get the ball out of the infield (all Fly-Outs) and they were clever enough to turn those three into four outs. The other 12 RiSP ABs produced a stunning TWO ground-outs, FOUR infield pop-outs (three of them foul), and SIX Ks We have a new definition of the word Pathetic
  16. Harvey - 4.0 Marcum - 4.0 Lagares - 1.0

I read WAR AND PEACE ... Twice! You know it's a sad game when the best player is the one who got tagged with the loss.
  18. The offensive incompetence is just stunning. 15 base-runners from the 9th thru 18th innings, a bunch of them reaching 2nd with no or one outs, and not one of them scored. You can't even script a run of failure that bad.
  19. When you're alone and life is making you lonely you can always go ...
  20. Zvon wrote: Gary talking about Buck still catching. If the games comes down to a pitch that gets by Bucky, Shorty looks tini-tiny, no? No oe: To expand on that, I have several questions about how Terry played that one inning but one thing I DON'T hold against him today is not holding Recker back just in case.
  21. I think we're going for the two LOBs per extra inning record.
  22. If the Marlins catcher lets that bunt drop they have an easy DP. Buck never moved I'm surprised Gary & Ron didn't say anything.
  23. Marcum up and sit 'em down.
  24. Since Swan doesn't seem to be here I'll say it for him: once again this team got its outs in the wrong order. If the fly outs to CF then RF had been in the opposite order we would have scored. Not that you can "decide" those things, but it's amazing how often that seems to have happened this season. Its baseball. If you look for that you'll see it throughout any season with any team. I know, but this team seems to be particularly cursed by that quirk this year.
