  1. Wearing #52. Rumor has it he's stopping off at 7-11 after the game for a Slurpee. Not sure what flavor.
  2. And who could have foreseen a leadoff double being stranded because no one got the ball out of the infield AGAIN!! (K, Pop-out, Pop-out)
  3. There's been a lot of competition, but this might have been the worst game of the year. - 3-1/2 hours of low-scoring slogging play - The Mets tried bunching the few hits they did get but still managed to leave most of the dinner out on the plate. - The Cubs offense consisted mostly of standing with their bats on their shoulders while watching Ball 3 and then Ball 4 - Only two errors but both were of the 'See Spot Run' variety - the only exciting play is one that the Mets, the Cubs, and the umps all messed up in some fashion - and I may have to re-check the exact stats on this but I believe the Mets set a single game record with 34 infield pop-ups
  4. I'd love to see what the opposing teams' scouting reports say to their pitchers: Just have every single pitcher throw a ball in the dirt every single time with two strikes because every single hitter on that team will swing at it every single time
  5. This bottom of the 8th rally would be interesting ... if not for the top of the 8th clusterfuck. Cubs hit ONE ball hard in that half but kept being handed base-runners by overly generous pitchers.
  6. I see we're continuing this outs at the warning track trend of late. There have been three or four in this game and probably a dozen or more over the last week.
  7. The Mets may be bad hitters, but at least they suck at bunting.
  8. Zvon wrote: Niese was not a happy camper. Well then tell him not to issue back-to-back walks to start an inning, not to serve up RBIs to the pitcher, to keep his pitch count under 100 by the 6th inning and maybe he won't be gone so soon.
  9. So other than the; - extra base they gave away on a throw back to the pitcher - the extra out they gave up on what should have been a clean pick-off - the two-RBI/two-out hit to the opposing pitcher (which never would have happened if not for the pick-off screw-up) - that Niese is up over 90 pitches through 4 innings - and the fact that the offense has no hits and just one ball out of the infield (an easy fly to short-center) ... how'r they looking so far?
  10. I suspect that most scouts/GMs/whatever would choose Syndergaard's future over Montero's if given the choice, even if that future is a bit further away. And, yes, whenever you project further into the future the margin of error theoretically gets bigger but I think most would take that risk and opt for the higher projected ceiling.
  11. Has Nieuwenhuis even made contact since like sometime last August?
  12. You can just see these K's coming via swings in the dirt from a mile away. Duda, Valdy, Byrd ... once they get to two strikes it would surprise you if they DIDN'T happen.
  13. Marcum is going to out-last Jackson at this rate ... not sure if that's a good thing or not.
  14. We've had a bunch of those 'right in front of the wall' deals lately.
  15. The way to come back from early big deficits is NOT to leave runners all over the bases. And, yes Lucas, I'm looking at you.
  16. Sure, but if it's for a similarly young position player of equal promise it's something that should be strongly considered. Sometimes you have to deal from strength in order to fill your weaknesses.
  17. That looks like a broken collarbone.
  18. Zvon wrote: I'm still pulling for you Marcum. To eat up 5 more innings. Well, his 2nd inning ass-kicking involved very few pitches, so his pitch count is low enough to go for a while. Unfortunately it might take us 17 innings to fashion six runs.

  20. Allowing zero runs over your last twenty innings/three starts since his one start stint in Vegas will get you called up right quick. Batters were 11-for-71 (.155) over that time w/no extra-base hits and 18 Ks. Season-long WHiP now stands at 0.90
  21. Ramon Ramirez and his 11.12 ERA over 6 appearances gets DFA'd by the Giants.

  23. The Mets are organizing a tournament called the Metropolitan Baseball Classic, an eight-team tournament that will take place in New York over Labor Day weekend. I think it will be a nice event for the whole industry, [Mets scouting director Tommy] Tanous said. Its less about the showcase, where they run the 60 (yard dash) and all that, and lets have a baseball tournament to see the kids in more competition. We see them in all the showcase events; sometimes you just want to see them play baseball. [The] event will be national in scale and open to the industry, though it may fall during a quiet period for college recruiting coordinators. In addition to a team from Texas and a team from New York and New England, both handpicked by Mets scouts, the tournament will feature some of the top travel teams in the country. Weather permitting, every team is guaranteed four games with pool play between two groups of four teams and then a championship game, a third-place game, a fifth-place game and a seventh-place game. Each team will play at least one game at Citi Field, but games will also take place at MCU Park, the home of the Mets short-season Brooklyn Cyclones, and at St. Johns Jack Kaiser Stadium. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mets-introduce-must-see-tournament-for-scouts/
  24. Only two f'r'n'r's in that Mets lineup.
  25. Hefner - 1.0 Quintanilla - 1.5 Byrd - 0.5
