  1. Since Swan doesn't seem to be here I'll say it for him: once again this team got its outs in the wrong order. If the fly outs to CF then RF had been in the opposite order we would have scored. Not that you can "decide" those things, but it's amazing how often that seems to have happened this season.
  2. Muffy seemed like he got a shit jump there.
  3. Aardsma gets an A for his Met debut. Hell, he gets a AA. Now I'd like to get him a 'W'

  5. David Aardsma - first in your hearts (for this game anyway), first in your alphabetical file of baseball cards.
  6. OK boys, now it's time. We've already dodged enough bullets today like FOUR Marlins runners erased (2 pick-offs plus a GiDP, plus a runner thrown out at home) and I don't want to be dodging any more.
  7. Edgy MD wrote: Yeah, well, be that as it may, I was 100% confident that Terry felt otherwise. Yeah, and in fairness to Terry, he's bunted in this exact spot about three or four times this year and it's worked out each time. We'll see on this one. Baxter has been Mr Walkoff.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: You wait until Buck gets to second before you pinch-run. I concur Plus I wouldn't bunt here.
  9. OK, it's Buck, Lagares, the pitcher's spot (Ankiel/Jordany), then Q, then Murph One of those guys will end it.
  10. Well, if we're going to win this one, it's going to have to be walk-off style.
  11. Turner better vs RHPs (this season anyway) and good against Webb
  12. I agree with the PH factor here -- now the question is do you switch off of Turner to Ankiel or Jordany? I'd stick with the red head.
  13. Upon further review, we have a flag here on incorrect thread usage. Fifteen yards and loss of down.
  14. AND A TWO PITCH/THREE OUT ESCAPE!!!
  15. And the worst part about the Harvey injury (well, maybe not the worst part, but the bad part for today) is that this is now a battle of the bullpens and, two batters in, we're already in trouble.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: They ain't gonna break no 1962 Mets records. There's talent on this team, if under-ripe. Was nothing on the 1962 Mets like this pitcher Miami threw at us today.. Probably not, but their results whether it be their record (worst), hitting (worst by a lot), or pitching (bottom five) don't resemble the team we've seen ten times now so far.

That complaint is more accurate if you just go from 2009 to present: 44-37 which is exactly half of an 88-win season pace But this team is something completely different (and not in a Monty Python way). They're en-route to maybe challenging for the worst single-season record ever, yet when we see them they're not only winning but usually look good in doing so. They hit our guys including Harvey who nobody else hits; their pitchers shut us down completely, they run, they play D, and they take advantage of every break we give them. And this is the 10th game of the season already so it's not like we're talking about just one series. Hell, the Cardinals didn't look this good against us, neither did the Reds and lord knows the Yanx didn't either.
  18. That girl in the orange is right now texting her friends saying: WAS JUST THISCLOSE TO GRBBNG D-WRIGHT'S BUTT
  19. The Mets are eyeing next weekends series against the Chicago Cubs at Citi Field ... for Zack Wheeler to make his major league debut, a baseball source told ESPNNewYork.com. I love the total non-specific nature of "a baseball source", something that could be used to describe anyone from a fan to a clubhouse boy to Sandy to Bud Selig. But it is the time of year for such things. Pittsburgh is expected to start, Gerrit Cole, their top pitching prospect sometime this week as well.
  20. Marlins continue to be the best team I've seen this year ... based soley on games vs NYM
  21. Problem with that one in particular is that if he's Biggio's kid, he's probably not hurting for a new car. I imagine that most of the legacies do at least a few years of college these days. All true, but someone might still try unless papa Bidge has sent word out not to even bother. And, even if not him, there will still be others who'll get big bucks thrown at them for similar reasons. The way things are set up now, the high-talent kid who swears he's going to college in order to get his price up gets passed over in the 1st & 2nd rounds because teams want a surer thing there; he then gets passed over in Rounds 3-10 because teams can't spend what he wants there without blowing up their entire draft on account of the money allotted getting smaller with each round and pick. That leaves Round 11 on beyond for those kind of chances.
  22. Rounds 11 through the end -- what do they go now, 40? -- resume today. The most interesting part about this day is that the money cap situation disappears after ten rounds so you may see some teams take flyers on HS kids who are thought to be committed to colleges. I notice that Biggio's kid, for instance, hasn't been selected at all so far despite being listed as having Top-100 talent. He's supposedly headed to college (forget where) but somebody will probably spend a pick today in order to throw a wad of money at him now that that amount won't affect what they can pay to anybody else and see if they can talk him out of college and into uniform NOW!!!!

  24. Love this tweet from BA's John Manual: Paul O'Neill's nephew goes to the Yankees, Michigan OF Michael O'Neill. Uncle throws helmet in celebration
  25. "Tremendous pick" sez MLB.com guy. Just once I'd like to hear somebody say of a newly picked guy: 'Yeah this guy is almost certain to suck. Bad kid too; even for a product of his dysfunctional, trailer-park, white-trash family this dude is a real asshole'
