  1. Buck's PotM points: April = 21.86 May = 9.82 June = 5.10 I bet we haven't seen that kind of dive before at least not for an uninjured player who (to this point anyway) hasn't lost any playing time.
  2. The pre-game odds (27%) of this game ending before midnight are shrinking.
  3. Nice work by Torres -- unfortunately not a promising inning coming up with Valdespin, Nieuwenhuis, Young & Murphy to face their only LHP. Terry could PH with Buck but I doubt it.
  4. At least Q had the good manners not to pop out after five outs in a row went no further than shallow RF.
  5. Bah! ... leadoff hit is followed by three pop-ups, only one of which even had the decency to be a fair ball.

  8. Jay-Z explains the basis of his new album by sounding like a blithering idiot.
  9. Nice of Campana, with all that speed, to do us favors by being thrown out on the bases three times today.
  10. I think the tattoo on the forearm of Eric Chavez is his locker combination.
  11. That's the nature of slumping hitters: unsure when they should be aggressive and aggressive when they should be more selective. Murphy's displayed both sides of that today.
  12. So, aside from the people being paid to make the movie itself, do you suppose there were as many as ten people on this planet who said: you know what would be a good idea for a movie: Grown-Ups 2'?

Wilmer Flores plays 2B and is ready. EY can play 2B. Satin can play 2B. There are very few untouchables on this team and Murphy isn't one of them. With neither a lot of power nor a real high OBP (he swings too often to walk much) his value is always going to have a cap to hit unless his BA is consistently .300+ But Flores is being tried at 2B (not sure we can say is CAN play there yet) and I'm not sure what the story on Satin's prowess over there is. Murph may indeed be trade bait but it's not necessarily because we have the replacement ready to go - whether it be Flores, Satin, Valdespin, Young, Havens, etc.
  14. Wow! I hadn't been tracking him over the last few weeks so that's a serious hot streak. But even including the slower start he's hitting .329/.392/.596 // 988 for the year with 32 of his 79 hits going for extra bases and, for all the talk about plate discipline being his weakest asset, that's still around an average walk rate. For a 22 y/o at AA and in his first year at a new level, I'll take it. Is playing RF most of the time (with the occasional game in CF) and is said to have the arm for it.
  15. As America celebrates the 227th anniversary of us tossing those Limey bastards outta here (even as we still inexplicably fawn over the goings-on of their royal family) I'm celebrating by starting my first IGT since banning myself some two months ago following a string of shitty games which, I reasoned, could only have been my fault. 1:10 start -- Dillon Gee and Ian Kennedy are your scheduled protagonists The earlier start time gives this game at least a 27% chance of ending before midnight. Speaking of starting times, nice to see most teams opting for the day-time starts today - beginning with the 11AM first pitch in the D of C. Toronto is going with the standard 7PM start, although in fairness to them it's not July 4th up there (I'm not sure what date it is in Canada, I just know they don't have a July 4th). They had their early start and patriotic shirts on Monday. No wonder that country is all backwards. Also night games in Atlanta & Dallas but they have the excuse of running from the heat. And a couple of 6PM starts in Denver & Anaheim. The rest of the country in going with baseball in the sun even if those of us on the easy coast have only seen a total of about 7 hours of sunshine over the last two weeks.
  16. Couple of recent updates concerning some guys on this list: - Things didn't seem to work out for Manny Ramirez in Taiwan (now who could have seen THAT coming?) but he did just sign a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers. - Jim Thome has taken some kind of front office job with the White Sox, so I guess that pretty much serves as a retirement announcement even if not a formal one. - Carlos Lee on the other hand did just recently give official retirement notice
  17. Marcum - 1.0 Torres - 0.5 Parnell - 1.0 Hawkins - 0.3 Satin - 2.0 Byrd - 1.1 Quintanilla - 1.5 Brown - 1.5 Wright - 0.7 Young - 0.7
  18. Aardsma - 0.9 Edgin - 0.6 Buck - 1.0 Satin - 1.5 Wright - 1.0

  20. Parking scofflaw and credit card delinquent chick can, and probably will, beat the shit out of you if you cross her.
  21. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: This team is really doing super lately. Quintanilla looked like he grew 8 inches just to make that play. Then Wright destroys that changeup, prompting me to get all emotional. Helps that the two biggest problems for April & May (Ike & Ruben) have been, at least to this point, replaced by superior players.
  22. How can Chad Pennington be playing SS, everyone knows he can't throw.
