  1. Disagree, Gary. There's no way I [u:2sunhx4c]DON'T[/u:2sunhx4c] call Duda out at 3rd on that play.
  2. Ashie62 wrote: A bag of balls thus far... Looking forward to your scouting report on him.
  3. Ummm, can we get a hit here sometime soon? It is Aaron Freakin' I-was-released-by-the-Indians-in-ST Harang
  4. Freeman's bat has got to spend more time in the hitting zone than just about any player I've seen - particularly any big guy. Given that swing I'm surprised he Ks as often as he does (even though I don't think I've ever actually witnessed him strike out).
  5. This replay thing is why Tampa manager Joe Madden was instructing his players in ST that now you have to "play until the 4th out"
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Was Thorton the guy the Mets were asking for but Pitt was balking on for a theoretical Ike trade over the winter? We may have to check the archives on this one. No, it was Nick Kingham I was thinking of. Gary drops the hint that the PtbNL in this deal is the "more significant" of the two.

Unlike most guys who start out as minor-league relievers, he seems to have gotten better as he's progressed through the system (peep the dropping walk rate). K/BB are nice ... ~4.5/1 H/IP is nice ... <1/per HR/G is ridonculous ... ~1 every 20 innings and the worst ERA year was when in the hitting-happy California League (Stockon was his home park)

  9. So sez Heyman. No word on return.
  10. Colon on sked to start on Saturday, but Mejia (he's got blisters on his fingers!!) not so definite for Sunday.
  11. Now the lineup is out but still no word on what corresponding move was made to get CYoung on the 25 and in the game Eric Young Jr. CF 2. Daniel Murphy 2B 3. David Wright 3B 4. Curtis Granderson - RF 5. Chris Young LF 6. Lucas Duda 1B 7. Travis dArnaud C 8. Ruben Tejada SS 9. Jon Niese LHP
  12. Still no lineup? Is this a sign of the long-awaited (by some of us) trade? Kernan thinks it may be just that, tweeting: "I'm sure they're making a trade. Goodbye Ike??"
  13. Vic Sage wrote: unfortunately, the first 1/3 of the season counts too, and his overall performance was what it was. And you can say that about most players... if you take the worst 1/3 of a season out of most player's overall production in a given year, their numbers will look much better. But is Gee's performance in the later part of the season more indicative of his future performance, or is he just streaky and inconsistent? I don't know that the verdict in on that question yet. Sure, but the part we're throwing out isn't just the worst part it's also the oldest part, all of which leaves us with (nearly) a running season which is certainly better than the expectations most had for him a year ago at this time and just plain pretty damn good by most standards -- even considering his recent (and small sample) inability to close out innings when sitting on a lead.
  14. On the other hand, heading into last season's May 30th start against the Skanks, Dillon was 2-6 w/an ERA of 6.34 and a WHiP north of 1.7 Starting with that (7.1 IP, 12 K/0 BB, 4 Hits) game, he's gone:11-5; 2.86 ERA; 1.11 WHiP; 122/37 K/BB ratio. That's 26 starts of more than pretty-goodness.

  16. That looks like MM with post-Presidential Clinton. The Secret Service probably have lower standards for access once the guy is out of office. Or maybe they were just all out on a binge again.
  17. Wheeler - 2.2 Torres - 1.0 Duda - 2.5 EYoung - 1.5 Murphy - 1.5 Lagares - 1.0 Granderson - 0.3
  18. Braves come in off a Thursday afternoon 1-0 loss in Philadelphia, dropping them to 10-5; 1.5 game in front of Nats, 2.0 in front of NYM [RS/RA = 56/40] 2-1 vs Milwaukee [u:25ag0vxk]5-1[/u:25ag0vxk] vs Washington 2-1 vs Philadelphia and . ahem, 1-2 vs NYM And in typical Braves fashion, losing starters Kris Medlen & Brandon Beachy for the season, and having Injured starters Mike Minor and off-season pick-up Gavin Floyd just now starting the rehab assignment stage, their staff is muddling along with the second best ERA in the league, only slightly behind Milwaukee and with a HUGE gap to #3 Cincy. We'll get the same three starters in the same order as we saw in the earlier series while the Mets staff is shifted by one slot. Friday - 7:10 EDT Niese vs Aaron Harang Harang held the Mets to 1 run on 2 hits + 4 walks over 6 innings in the game on 4/8, but it was enough to get tagged with the loss in a game which ended 4-0 courtesy of Colon, Farnsworth & Valverde Saturday - 7:10 (Ah yes, night games on a Saturday in the northeast in April whatll they think of next?) Colon vs Ervin Santana Santana tossed 8 innings of 3-hit/shutout ball on 4/9. Mets tagged relievers Walden & Kimbrel for 3 in the 9th which was just enough to lose 4-3 Sunday - 1:10 Wheeler vs David Hale 4 runs (3 earned) over 4.1 innings on 4/10. Mets win 6-4. Closer Craig Kimbrel is not DL'd but also hasn't pitched in five days citing a "sore shoulder", a stretch which included the Braves having to protect a three-run save plus two separate 1-0 games (one a win, one a loss). Not sure of his exact status going forward.

  20. Not a lot of immediate help brewing down below, at least not from the likely sources: at AAA Vegas Vic Black -- 3-1/3 IP over 4 games; only 1 hit but 4 walks to go along with 5 Ks Eric Goeddel -- also 3.1 IP; 6 runs on 6 hits and [u:3mt4owrq]8 BBs[/u:3mt4owrq] for a 16.20 ERA and 4.20 WHiP Josh Edgin (now that we're down to one LHR in Queens) -- 8.44 ERA over 5+ IP Dana Eveland -- a 8.44 ERA over 5+ IPs (sounds like a theme) Ryan Reid -- 8 runs on 13 hits in just 4-2/3 and Jeff Walters (who looked good briefly in ST) -- 5 runs on 11 hits in 7 innings [6.43 ERA, 1.86 WHiP] only Miguel Socolovich (what kind of an ethnic stew name is that?!?) is covering himself with any glory -- 1 ER over 6.1 IP in 6 appearances (2 BBs, 3 Ks) and in AA, Jack Leathersich continues his ridonculous K-happy but erratic ways with a line of : 6-2/3 IP, 7 Hits, 6 Walks [1.95 WHiP] and an ERA of 5.40 despite [u:3mt4owrq]14 Ks[/u:3mt4owrq]!!
  21. Six is the norm but remember that the short-season leagues don't begin until late June or so. The Mets actually have seven affiliates, the above four plus Brooklyn in the NY Penn League, Kingston in the Appy Lg, and a second team in PSL that plays in the entry level Gulf Coast Lg
  22. Gee - 4.5 Rice - 0.3 Recker - 1.6 EYoung - 1.2 Murphy - 1.0 Brown - 1.0 Wright - 0.4
  23. Familia - 0.3 Wright - 1.0 Lagares - 1.5 Satin - 0.7
  24. Niese - 2.2 Germen - 0.5 Lannan - 1.1 Recker - 2.0 Lagares - 0.9 Duda - 1.5 Quintanilla - 1.8
  25. Ceetar wrote: I agree, but I assume the logic was he got hit real hard that last inning, there were only two innings to go with 6 pitchers who didn't pitch yesterday and 7 that won't pitch tomorrow so why not? We almost found out why not.
