  2. Young boy plunked in the head off a vicious, sliced foul by Carlos Gomez yesterday in Atlanta. Hospitalized at least overnight, but apparently going to be all right.

  5. I'm going with David Cone for ultimate Met-Yank Met - Giant?
  6. Murph's walk rates are somewhat UP this year (.050) as compared to his career norms (.043), although still considerably below where league averages tend to sit (.065 - .070). Not sure what it all means.
  7. Colon - 4.5 Campbell - 1.8 Lagares - 2.7 Murphy - 1.0
  8. Wheeler - 1.5 Familia - 0.5 Centeno - 1.5 Duda - 1.0 Wright - 1.0 Lagares - 1.0

  10. This is my first crack at an IGT this year, so I'm here to give you not just the skinny on the game (Jacob deGrom) but also the fat (Hyun-jin Ryu). deGrom is making his 2nd ever ML start, coming off his 1 run, 4 hit, 7 inning performance vs the Yanquis Ryu is making his first since going on the DL on May 1st for "shoulder inflammation" although had already made seven starts by the end of April -- which seems odd until you realize that he started twice in March including both game #2 AND game #3 of the year for LA (their last one in Australia and then the first one back on U.S. soil). Ryu has thrown up a bagel in 4 of his 7 starts, but then 2, 6, and 8 in the other three. Lineups to follow, probably one involving many RH batters to face the LH Ryu. I'm predicting an Eric Campbell sighting.
  11. Gotta like Gary's segue off of Ronnie's talk about Dodger arrogance: ... and speaking of teams accused of arrogance, the Cubs are leading Tanaka and the Yankees 4-to-1
  12. The other thing that's not helping is the station-to-station ball we've been playing. Have hit a bunch of singles w/runners on but haven't been able to go from 1st to 3rd on any of them on account of: - fairly weak singles most of the time - slow runners most of the time - we keep hitting them to Puig
  13. Four ABs with the base loaded: results = not one ball out of the infield.
  14. Don't you half expect this Dodger reliever (Howell) to utter the line: "Book, you must respect our ways"
  15. A couple of near-perfect pitchers getting into a bit of trouble today. Johnny Cueto, who came into the game with Little League numbers [1.25 ERA; 4.1 H/9; 0.71 WHiP; 7 or more innings w/2 or fewer runs in every start this year] got bounced around by the Nats in Washington (although 3 Cincy errors helped) 5.1 IP, 8 Runs/6 Earned And Masa Tanaka is down 2-0 to the Cubs in the 5th - and it might have been worse had the Cubs not bunted into two consecutive outs at home with runners on 2nd & 3rd
  16. Would have been more helpful if Murphy and/or Wright had done that. Or that ... or THAT!
  17. And then there's this: Dodgers Cuban infield prospect Alex Guerrero required plastic surgery Tuesday after his left ear was bitten by Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes teammate Miguel Olivo during a fight in the dugout. Olivo, IIRC, was always a bit of a dick.
  18. And Torres gets Beckett but it takes a 10-pitch AB to do it. btw, not only are NYM pitchers hitting .014 for the season, but opposing pitchers are hitting a not-too-shabby .165 against us, and I'm not sure how many RBIs
  19. And, once again, other players don't have a problem hitting HRs in CitiField. We, in the meantime, are working on two hits: Granderson's double which was an inch (or maybe less) from being foul, and Flores's infield hit which should have been an out.

Bereavement is minimum 3 games but if you knew this over the weekend why not Saturday-Tuesday and get Kirk up here in the meantime rather than play short? Because this way they use the off-day and Lagares only misses one day instead of three.

  22. I should admit here that I expected something of a sophomore slump/pitcher adjustment out of Puig this season. Not happening so far.

  24. Random thoughts on a team I haven't seen a minute of yet this year: Drew Butera is a one-time NYM farmhand who was dealt away to Minnesota to bring Luis Castillo over here. Butera's actually done the bulk of the catching lately as no one in that position is hitting for the trolley Dodgers (or for us for that matter). Justin Turner, after starting at 2nd on Opening Day, has been seeing some time at 3nd, in for Uribe, now that Dee Gordon has pretty much got the 2B job full time and the league lead in steals (25 of 28). I had to check whether Chone Figgins was still under that FA he signed w/Seattle - he's not, that ran out last season. I don't get 'em all right but I knew that deal was a turkey (for the club) the second it was signed. Scott Van Slyke is funny in that he's a complete opposite of the player his father was: right-handed, large, power, no speed and no glove. But seems to be contributing while getting some meaningful ABs for the first time in his career. Probably never be a full-timer, but 10 of his 15 hits are for XBs so he's got some kind of role. Since Josh Beckett was part of that big trade w/Boston back in August 2012, he has all of 3 wins with LA in 22 starts. His win a week ago against Miami was his first since his final game of 2012. Been kind of unlucky this season whereas he was pretty much injured and/or sucking last year. Closer Kensley Janssen's numbers look pretty ugly (4.34; 1.61 WHiP) while the guy he took that job from last season, Brandon League, is pitching much better (1.40; 1.07). Not that that's prompted a switch or anything as Janssen is still closing because, well because he's the closer.
  25. Playing & coaching, but nothing on managing (at least according to the sub-title). Just as well, it would be a short chapter anyway.
