  1. So other than the misplays from Wright, Murphy, Tejada, and E Young, coupled with the walks and hits given up by Niese, and that the Mets have just one bloop hit, I think the first two innings have gone rather well otherwise.

  4. Flores's problem was getting sick at the exact wrong time then watching Ruben get hot (or his version of hot) during his time in sick bay. But that only explains a day or two's absence for Flores, not the five or six or whatever it's been since he last saw daylight. It almost sounds like there's something going on -- internal discipline? bad BP habits? -- that we don't know about, especially seeing as how he hasn't even gotten off the bench as a decoy PHer!

  6. We owe these guys for the season opening sweep. Since that sweep they're actually a sub-.500 club giving them an overall record of 21-19 and a dead-even RS/RA (they were +12 vs Us). Their offense is a bit down now as they are currently Harper-less, (Ryan) Zimmerman-less, and now LaRoche-less even if they did just recently get catcher Wilson Ramos back. Tyler Moore (1B), Danny Espinosa (IF), and a combo of Kevin Fransden & Nate McLouth (OF) have been filling in. Their defense still suxx (SS Desmond in particular), their pitching still pretty good. In all they seem to be in their second year at being somewhat less than the sum of the parts, a problem that those in charge seem to have trouble putting their finger on the specific cause. Theyre kind of the Bizarro-Mets in terms of when they score. Where as we score early and try to hang on, they tend to dig themselves an early hole and spend the rest of the game trying to fight back. check out those lopsided early inning, and then late inning, figures! 1st - 3rd innings: 44 Runs scored 70 Runs Allowed 4th - 6th innings: 41 Runs scored 53 Runs Allowed 7th - 9th innings: [u:2qpy1efc]70 Runs scored 31 Runs Allowed[/u:2qpy1efc] The Mets, by contrast, are +11 early, -7 in the middle innings, then -8 late For some reason MLB.com is listing their weekend pitchers as TBD, although by rotation is should be Gio Gonzalez and then Jordan Zimmermann. Neither one, to my knowledge, should be missing a start for any reason. Gonzalez got his butt kicked last week in Oakland but has been OK otherwise. Zimmermann has been their best pitcher all year. Friday 7:05 Niese vs Tanner Roark Saturday 4:05 (an actual Saturday day game) Colon vs TBD Sunday 1:35 Wheeler vs TBD

  10. I'll take on the task of organizing all the fans, right after I finish herding all these cats in a neat and orderly fashion.
  11. If Duda gets on don't you have to PH Flores for Tejada?
  12. THAT one we get but we couldn't turn the one on McCann!?!?!!!

  14. David's got some makin' up to do here.
  15. Jeter has four hits this series but only two of those got out of the infield (barely) and, unless I'm wrong, NONE of his outs left the IF either.
  16. Nobody in your audience is commemorating this moment, Gary.
  17. This is reminding me of the last game against Philly (the one we eventually pulled out in the 9th & extras) In that one Ryan Howard beat out an infield single and later scored by dodging a tag at home. Tonight, Brian McCann beats a relay throw preventing a double play then scores from 1st on a double. Something definitely going wrong when fat, slow guys are beating you with their legs.
  18. Getting half as many hits as last night wasn't exactly in the game plan for today.

  21. It's like you can tell when a pitch is half-way to the plate these days that Wright is going to whiff on it.
  22. Beltran to the DL, maybe for a long while. Amazing how the Cardinals lucked into two full years from Carlos. He misses large chunks of several seasons w/the Mets, then goes to StL and hardly misses a game in his mid-30s while getting 650+ PAs/year. Then they let him go and suddenly his knee is barking on him again and there'll be a big chunk blown out of this season and a really big one if surgery is required. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
  23. Juan Centeno [.273/.348/.338 at Vegas] "is en route" to Queens based on the fact that Travis d'Arnaud is experiencing "concussion-like symptoms" and may have to go on the DL Mejia will be tonight's closer, "why not use the guy who's freshest" says Terry, but he has not committed to handing him that role permanently even though he believes over time that that's where he could eventually wind up. If we felt he was ready to go back-to-back days, possibly three days in a row, he would be the guy. But he is not at that stage yet, Collins said.
  24. I never particularly liked the guy, mainly because he just struck me as a big, dumb, jock, meathead. Of course if I were to eliminate guys based solely on that criteria I'd probably have to put half the league on my shit list, but he just seemed like a particularly prime example. I heard Francesa referring to him as "a failed reliever" the other day, "even back when he still could throw 100", but that's obnoxiously harsh. No one last 16 years in the majors as "a failure". His biggest crime in Mikey's eyes was undoubtedly that he wasn't very good during his two years in the Bronx and always seemed better out of the closers role* rather than in it: you can't compare to Rivera and you weren't good for my team therefore you're a failure. But while nobody likes to see he career come towards the end, I'd really have a hard time getting all worked up over a story of a guy originally signed to a minor league deal who gets a ML job due to an injury but then fails to last the entire season even if I didn't pre-dislike him. If this is becoming anything resembling a national story it's because nobody's got anything else to talk about right now -- at least until Michael Sam and Johnny Football are spotted somewhere sharing a milkshake and a rom-com movie together over at Donald Sterling's house. * Only real season as a full-time closer (25 saves) was with Tampa in 2011
