  1. This will be Walker's 3rd start this season to go along with the 3 he made last year. The two he made just prior to the ASB resulted in 3 ER over 5 IP vs Houston, and then 1 ER over 4 in a loss to the Chisox. He's been one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball for the last three years now.
  2. Not only do I think she's not all that hot* but I get the opinion that there's an even bigger gap between her public 'face' and her un-made-up one than there is for your average celebrity. She always looks kind of plastic to me. As for talent, I haven't heard enough to form much of an opinion except to say that what I have heard sounds like tween-age pop fluff * and, yes, 'not hot' is a relative term here to the extent that if she were totally ugly she wouldn't be within a Giancarlo Stanton HR of show biz in the first place
  3. I definitely didn't see Carlos Gomez turning into what he's become.
  4. Well if they're going to run pictures of that blonde I'll check things out. Katy Perry, on the other hand, does nothing for me.
  5. Centerfield wrote: deGrom kind of illustrates how little I understand about scouting and labeling prospects. For instance, Zack Wheeler is as highly touted as they come. They say he has front-of-the rotation potential. Zack throws his fastball around 96, but his secondary pitches are not great, and lack consistency. Wheeler struggles with his control. deGrom, on the other hand, sits at about 94 with his fastball, but has plus secondary pitches, including a great changeup he can throw even when behind in the count. deGrom has good control and limits his walks. Despite this, he was a fringe prospect. From what I read about him, I expected him to be Pat Strange or Kevin Mulvey. Part of that is age - Wheeler is two full years younger so compare, say, where he is now vs where deGrom was two years ago (single-A); part is the age at which they were drafted - college senior vs HS, meaning that Wheeler has been on the radar longer; part is small sample size - deGrom being better NOW!!!! doesn't mean he will be for the next 5 or 10 and the long term is what forecasters are trying to project part is a scouts tendency to drool over readings on the radar gun and other such talents that fall under the general category of 'Stuff' And, yeah, the scouts and touts who follow this end of the business do also get things wrong more than occasionally.
  6. Let's take a poll: I vote for NO drama in the bottom of the 9th

  9. You can put up all the links you want I'm still not going to read it.
  10. Lagares at the wall ... Yawn!

  12. First HR since before the break, no?
  13. Sooner or later we're actually going to have to face a good pitcher; how many K's do you suppose we'll ring up then?
  14. More like poor Kelly Johnson. For a two-month rental--and that's all Headley is at this point, can be FA at end of year--he helps the Yanx more than either of the guys they swapped for him but I doubt he's in their plans beyond that. Solarte, as noted above, was a two-month wonder at the beginning of this season after winning the job by out-playing Eduard Nunez in ST. That got some YLDBs all excited over his future prospects but many of them failed to notice that he's already 27 y/o with a lengthening list of mediocre results in the minors and not really a position to call his own. The pitcher de Paulo also had some pin-striped, prospect watchers all agog after a good season in Low-A ball in 2012, but that trend didn't carry through to A+ or AA in the two years since.
  15. Michael Conforto 5 for his first 12 for the 'Clones (4 singles/1 double). Just sayin'
  16. It would be pretty shocking if there were no no-trade clause included when he signed the big deal two years ago. It just makes no sense that a guy with enough pull to rate an eight year $100 mil+ deal wouldn't insist on one or that mgmt willing to give him that would somehow refuse the N-T. the 10-5 rights are a service time thing though right? Baseball Reference says he had 9.075 or something as of January, so he might not be quite at 10 yet. 9.075 is shorthand for 9 years plus 75 days (days, not games) and with 172 days making up a full season* that's just shy of a year and a half so the elapsed time since opening day 2014 gives David the full 10 years (give or take a day or two). He's never been sent down since his call up and DL time counts as service time as long as you were on the ML roster at the time of the injury. * I believe it's 182 days technically that make up a complete season but there's some clause that allows players within ten days of that to get credit for a full season (hence late April call-ups for some young players - it won't delay arbitration but it can delay FA-gency)
  17. The problem last night was more plain old shitty hitting than anything else. I mean nine hits is OK, but all were singles (and some pretty cheap ones among them) and by managing to pull off the old 'one per inning' oddity--exactly one hit in each inning but never more than one--most of those runners never advanced beyond 1st base.
  18. We know all there is to know about the Crying Game REMEMBER WHEN VOTING TO PLEASE USE INITIALS TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN ERIC, CHRIS, AND EGG FOO YOUNG
  19. Our pitching is making some shaky-hitting teams look like we're back in the late-90's era.

The kids, the adults, the director, the producer, the key grips, the caterer ...
  21. Gwreck wrote: Not that we would ever think of such a thing but David now has no-trade rights. I'm sure he's had them at least since he signed the big contract. If partial seasons count, then so does Mookie. Of course if partial seasons count then David's already into his 11th.
  22. Nice walk, nice read on the PB, and now nice tag by Tejada. Now we gotta get 'im in.

  24. Special attention needs to be paid to Fernando Rodney, Seattle's closer and member of the crooked-hat club. In Sunday's game vs Anaheim, he made a rare 8th inning appearance and got the final two outs preserving, temporarily anyway, the Mariners' one-run lead. He immediately went into his 'arrow-shooting' routine where he pantomimes pulling an arrow out of his quill and shooting it in the air; it's his signature move when he closes out a game. But not only wasn't this the end of the game but his arrow seemed to be aimed, not into the air in general, but at the Anaheim player who had just made the 3rd out. Not cool dude. Well, karma is a mean bitch and it all came back to bite him after a 9th inning consisting of three hits, three walks, and two Angels runs for the walk-off win. Pujols & Trout in particular (although there may have been others as well) used Albert's game-tying double to return arrow fire at Rodney and again later when the winning run scored. Two pieces of advice Freddie baby. - You're not a bad closer but you're going to have your share of blow-ups like any other. So you might want to think about dropping the whole William Tell bit lest you wind up with as many (figurative) arrows in your hide as George Custer - if you insist on keeping the arrow routine, best to wait until you, y'know, actually win the game before going into it, otherwise you're just going to look like an (even bigger) ass if/when it blows up in your face.
  25. Duda DH'ing while Campbell fields ... if it were a RHP would it be the other way around? Let's kick the asses of these coffee-snorting, rain-soaked, Windows-code writin' bums.
